I have looked through the posts but can't find a problem like mine.
When I double click the psclient.exe there is a very brief hour glass flutter and then nothing. There are no errors in the Event Log. I have .Net 1, 1.1, 2, 3.1 and the latest c++ runtime. I ran through the suggested fixes :
Run the updater
Update your graphics card's drivers
Try switching to windowed/fullscreen mode
Turn on/off the vertex buffer
Disable/enable sound
Try changing GUI skins
If all else fails, try reinstalling the game
I re-installed to the C: drive incase the game didn't like other drives ( seen that before ) and still nothing. Anyone got any ideas ?
Thanks.

Hello
die you try to download it again? ( Actually, I'd prefer checking md5 sums to ensure the download wasn't corrupted, but I don't know where the md5 sums can be found. )
There is also an option for the updater to check for corrupted files, it was --repair earlier, but I think it got changed.

it got changed _to_ --repair
-
Thanks, I'll try the repair option but I'm pretty sure that's not the problem. I'll update when I've tried again later.

what are your exact system stats? and if you run psclient from cmd what is the exact output?
-
Operating System: Windows XP SP2
Processor: Intel P4 2.8 Ghz
Graphics Card: Nvidia 6800 GS
System Memory: 2 GB
Video Memory: 256 MB
I'll get the other info when I get home, working atm :innocent:
-
OK, I ran the integrity check and 3 files were replaced. I ran psclient in command prompt and it went straight back to the prompt, there were no messages. I am now downloading again and will checksum the result.

I`ve got exacly the same problem.
Operating System: Windows XP SP2
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3700+
Graphics Card: NVIDIA Geforce 7900 GT/GTO
System Memory: 1280 MB

Re-installed the client and tried to run before updating and it still fails to run. I have an openal folder in my program files, could this version interfere with the dll from the client ?
-
try opening a command prompt and running psclient.exe --verbose
hopefuly this should give you some feedback. Btw, I am using a very similar system to you guys and have no issues, XP pro (SP2) nVidia 7900, Athlon64, Gig of RAM etc.

Still shows nothing. Psclient process appears for second in processes and disappear. ::|

hm i wonder... maybe it's that openal bug... i helped someone in the past that just couldn't get the game running untill this was fixed
try this http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=34258.0

YES!!! That was it. Thanks!

I hoped turning off sound is enough to avoid it but I was wrong. Elvi's change has to be one of the stardard checks for a not running system, Ive seen it now helping several people...

Works for me too :D thanks everyone.

Hi :D
I couldn't get my client to start up, so I tried this and it worked. I now get the login screen which I think looks like it should, and the music plays (love that music), but both servers almost instantly report 'Failed', and I can't get beyond that..
I've played PS a little before on this PC, but I probably didn't have a router then. It's a Belkin wireless, but we use it as wired. I've looked in it's Firewall section, and can add ports, but don't know how to fill it in properly.. 7777 is the external port..? is the protocol TCP, UDP or both? I need to enter ext. port start and end, and same for internal port.
I've got software security but I turned it all off when I downloaded PS for the second time, thinking my download was incomplete or somehow corrupted.
Hope you don't ask me too many questions I can't answer :-[
Thanks in advance :D
-
Hello
can you tell me your router model even? I (or someone else) might have a look into the manual to try to explain how to set the firewall/port forwarding correctly.

Thanks for your reply :)
It's a Belkin #FSD7633-4 ADSL2+ Modem
EDIT: Just tried this (http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Belkin/F5D7633-4/Rune.htm), but doesn't seem to have made any difference..
EDIT2: I lied. Logging out and back in helped. I'm in now \\o//
I don't know much about ports. Have I now weakened the security of my router a bit..?

Hello again
First, I never saw that you actually have to forward the planeshift-network traffic from the server to your client, but well... I think this is how you could do it with the router:
- Go to Firewall -> Virtual Servers
- Select as service a 'custom server'
- Give it some name in the Custom Server field
- Server IP Address: The IP-address computer where you installed planeshift
- External Port Start: 7777 --- External Port End: 7777 --- Protocol: UDP --- Internal Port Start:7777 --- internal Port End: 7777
Now your router should forward the stuff the server sends for sure to your computer.

Btw, you have really the current version installed? (Errrm, what is it again :o ? 0403 I think )

Thanks Sen :)
Yes, that's pretty much what I did, from following the link I posted. I added two.. uhm.. 'thinggies' :-[ - a TCP and a UDP, both with '7777'.
Works fine now. I had a little run around earlier. I might have a play tonight :D
I can't read German unfortunately, but I had a look at page 54 and am glad I didn't need to fiddle around with that. My internet connection is 'shy' and I only see it occasionally.. not had a real need to fiddle with it lately. Funnily enough it just 'popped up' to say hello, as if I knew I was typing about it  I always see the LAN connection icon, but not my gateway connection: it won't let me look at it's status either, but I don't need to right now, so I'll leave it alone :whistling:
Yes I've got the latest, and yes it's v0.4.03.
Thanks again

Hupps, I forgot about the language.... :-[
Happy it works now :) (If I got you right)

I too am having this problem. Windows XP service pac 2 amd athalon 2500+ processor, NVIDIA GForce4 MX Integrated GPU. Have the latests drivers with openGL for my graphics. ....Someone earlier said something about openal bug and getting it fixed. I want to try that since it seems to have fixed 2 other people's problem ...where do I go to get the fix?
-
umm, nevermind. I see now that the link was posted. It says sound but if you read further than the title :-[ it says it also solves some problems with windows client not loading. :whistling: It worked.
O--) thanks anyway

I'm unable to run either psclient.exe or pssetup.exe as well from the latest build.
I've run psupdater --repair and everything passes the integrity check. I've also tried the previously mentioned modification to the pssetup.cfg, changing the sound rendering engine from openal to System.PlugIns.iSndSysRenderer = crystalspace.sndsys.renderer.software
I've verified that the .NET framework 3.5 SP1 is installed.
When I run psclient or pssetup from a command line, it returns immediately with no output and no loading of the application (task manager does not show psclient running).
There are no entries in the event log or application log.
psclient --verbose returns nothing.
My details:
Dell Precision M6300 laptop
Windows XP SP3
Intel Core2 Duo @2.20GHz
3GB RAM
Quadro FX 1600M w/512MB
I've got the app running on another dell laptop, so I'm at a loss as to why it would not run here.
Help! :)
Thanks,

thats how i fixed mine
-
Thanks! I will try this tonight and post my results.
-
Tried the above (except for adding openal) - no go. Still looking...
-
Is there any type of extended debugging or logging I can turn on to help diagnose this?
-
stats just tried to get the newest graphics drivers and installed them or reinstalled?
