I am coining the term Cper: The Cper is the Complaint Player who typically spends more time complaining on the forums and IRC than in game doing anything to manifest the changes they'd like to see.
Cpers are in fact killing rp in my opinion many of them began as rpers and now spend a majority of their time complaining that "Rp is dead on Laanx." In many cases these are the same people who have complained of our starting a second server for non-rp to attempt to provide a place for those who don't rp to be comfortable and encourage people who do not rp to play on Ezpcusa. Yet the argument now turns to the fact that we have people on Laanx who do not rp, while at the same time others complain that separating non-rpers will be the death of the game.
Constructive posts that promote rp are rare as ever and even the goodly players that take the time to make their own rp events are nit-picked and cajoled by cpers until they are too tired to dare to try again.
I earnestly urge all of you to seriously consider complaining less and playing more.
Stop making people feel bad about PS.

Xillix is right!!

I like it. It will be interesting to see if people buy into it or not. Still, my personal belief is that the complaints aren't the cause, but are instead an effect. The RP environment didn't decline because people complained about the decline - people complain about the decline because there has been a decline.
I definitely agree that people need to be more solution-oriented rather than problem-oriented. It's important to point out problems where problems exist. However, we now know that there is a problem, and we're ready to move onto the next stage of things.

The next stage should be everyone logging off the forum and going in game to the Kada.

Roled spends much of his time being...Roled! And having a great time doing it, meeting other characters, getting involved in their on-going stories, and trying to fulfill his life's goals at the same time. Yes he loves doing 'errands for the townsfolk' as he terms the assignments he gets, and he very much appreciates the gifts and tria he gets in return. \\o//
Occasionally, Roled even trains in the Arena, tho' he mostly will only kill critters who don't appear to be sentient, and rogues who attack him first. He is studying to become a healing mage- and he's happy to talk with almost anyone about his hopes and dreams, and urge them to talk with him by asking them personal questions. There be some, truth be told, whom Roled doesn't like at all. They know it.
Roled doesn't find it very hard (or to reverse the double negative, Roled finds it rather easy) to be real and polite and friendly AND get his work done. He asks for help often from others around him. He listens carefully when others give him advice and valuable information about how to survive in the crystal. And he takes an active part in supporting his friends, and trying to prevent any form of evil from afflicting those he cares for. And he bears grudges against those who harm his...friends. And he drinks too much and does things he later regrets. :-[
So Xillix, this is a thankee from Roled to all ye who come before, who make this world, who populate it, who think about the technical aspects (/me scratches his shin in confusion about the concept of 'technology') and implement them, who fix things that seem broken, who help those of us who think something is broken to see that it is our own mistake, who create events and markets and performances and ulber attacks, and even a thankee to the monsters and critters and Xiosia's creation of natural resources, who offer their lives and inherent worth over and over, so we sentients can learn and practice our skills and grow and make our own contributions that change this Yliakum world.
And a special thankee to all of us who stay real to ourselves and to everyone we meet, even as we mine, craft, forge, cook, bake, heal, repair, cast evil spells, kill innocents and quest for fortune.
Thankee,
Yer friend and Student,
Roled Rolak

I have already stated the singular cause I'll take responsibility for is taking people into the staff and out of the game.

Bravo Xillix! \\o// I think you hit the proverbial nail on the head.
I hope this will help others see that the way to fix RP is to actually RP instead of being CPers.
Remember, only you can prevent non-RP...only you.
-
if I may suggest:
First, do not complain about others rp ingame. (if they talk about pirates on frag, just treat them as you would treat someone talking about flemargs on earth... riding on dirt submarines. obviously insane. hehehe) Maybe they are trying?
second, please try to make Rp that is not solely either based just around you, or even worse, your character demanding a captive audience. I WANT to RP with you, but man, lets try to make it fun? Otherwise I just RP my chars to ignore the crazy person going on and on about their life story over and over.
Note, you may RP however you like, I am not complaining on your style. but I will not waste my time on it if it is a tedious exercise in pretending like all my characters have nothing better to do than to sit and listen to bedtime stories.
but lets say the maulbernauts near the eagle bronze door is attacking poor travelers and they if their attacks are not stopped soon, they might have to close the Bronze door, so we need to group up to turn back the horde (maybe poke a GM to triple the spawn rate for an hour?) now that would be fun.
Sit in the tavern and listen to a bunch of emo avatars? not so much. I do not mind them doing that, but do not expect me to hang around.

+1 xillix
i agree with xillix. i just started getting back into the game. last few log ins the game looked devoid of people. today i saw activity and soem rping even! i saw some old folks too rping. glad to see its back. relearnign and customising shortkeys from memory is a bit tiering lol. 2 mroe log ins and quick brush up on game from freinds and i am rdy to start questing and making new freinds :D
In case a new player does come in lets try to be helpful folks. months befroe i had to elave the game due to real life .. i remember two new players i was helping being scolded in plaza for not bieng in RP mode. Everyone needs a break. Give a new guy a break for a week or 2. Give tips and pointers and we will end up with a new freind in game ! :D today soemone greeted and stuff with me. sent him a msg telling him i am too busy releanring the game right now to even respond to rp lol. Hope to see you all soon in game.

Just an addendum, since the thread has been bumped: A lot of non-Rpers (whatever you want to call them) can also turn into Cpers very easily. It's not a problem limited to one "side" or the other. I think everyone can usually benefit from being more constructive and more creative.
