Title: My character's model: a work in progress
Post by: Bajazag on March 04, 2009, 02:41:24 pm
Been messing around with Blender for a while. This is the very first rendering:

as a bloob (= blender noob) I'm kind of proud  :D

If anyone was wondering, I didn't give up. Besides the events in my RL (and for those who know them: yes, I've found the way and the time, ain't it awesome?), I had some trouble with the hands...well, a lot of trouble, but I'm pretty content with the result. Now the mesh is complete and I'm marking the seams for unwrapping it  :sweatdrop:
Have a peep:

The poor guy has no chest!! o.0;;;;

errr, i mean, good job! you just need to lower the belly an raise the shoulders. i forget the exact proportions, but a good way of figuring it out is drawing circles, using the the diameter of the previous circle as the radius of the next. This series of circles corresponds to major milestones on the human body: top of head to nose, top of head to chin, top of head to base of neck, top of head to hips (?), and so on and so forth.

you know what, don't listen to me, i forget how it works >.<

But my point still stands, raise his shoulders a little bit ;)

You've seen a shot from below in perspective view, hope is that. The proportions I've followed are based on the length of the head and its fractions. Here's a side(-ish) view in orthographic mode:

However, if I may dare an advice for newbies, that would be: DON'T start with overweight models...

Looks quite nice :) I'd recommend you post orthographic views from now on instead of perspective, since it really skews your proportions. The last shot before this, for example, made the arms seem extremely elongated.

Unwrapping, eh? I'd be interested in the textures you'd come up with.

Congrats Bajazag! Not only are you doing a great work with your character model but you also made a Karyuu pop up in your thread... and that's quite something since we've been trying to lure her back in for a good year+ now...
