is their a way to prevent some of the lag? its really bad...either that or im running something...? cable modem BTW

Any lag you see is most likely related to the machine and not the network.  The network traffic at this point is so light it could be done with plastic cups and some string.

There seems to be a wide range of performances that people have. It seems like if you have a lot of RAM and a good graphics card it is ok.

This is something that will get better over time.

so how do u check your ram/graphics card? almost all the time on all games i never lag...could it be that planeshift is just still in earlier stages? That would be a kill to planeshift if only people with tons of ram could play...
