Some new prospects and one of our more committed developers have made some changes to crafting. Look for these things to be different:
V - Added transforms for missing steps in Beginner Baking for consistancy
* Unmixed Nut Dough > Mixing > Nut Dough
* Unmixed Honey Nut Dough > Mixing > Honey Nut Dough
V - Changed transforms in Beginner Baking
* Nut Dough > Kneading > ( 8 ) Ball of Nut Dough
* Honey Nut Dough > Kneading > ( 8 ) Ball of Honey Nut Dough
V - Changed Garbage Item transforms in Basic Cook Book and Working In the Kitchen to dispose instead of recycle endlessly - FS#1610
V - Changed Garbage Item transforms in Basic Cook Book and Working In the Kitchen
* Grilled Meat > Grilling > Burnt Food
* Grilled Clacker Meat > Grilling > Burnt Food
* Burnt Food > Grilling > Pile of Dust
V - Deleted unneeded Anything > Grilling > Burnt Food Transform
V - Reset Rolling skills to Cooking
* Same as Kneading. Was Cooking
* Before this change, lesser skilled cooks could do all parts of making cookies except roll the dough.

V - Replaced Cinnamon Egg Mix with Cinnamon Egg Mixture in Cinnamon Egg Soaked Bread combine
V - Retitled and changed description on Cinnamon Egg Mix to flag it to not be used (duplicate)...delete eventually.
V - Created Transform in Beginner Baking: Bunch of Joopiner Berries - Cutting(20) - 5 Joopiner Berries
This makes possibe the combination for Unbaked Joopiner Pie
V - Updated Mashing process to use Masher, per the description, instead of Mixer

new fixes where just put on laanx and shard this weekend:
- all master crafted hammers where put on the right values for quality (50/-1 which will show as 50/50)
- It's not possible to cold hammer anymore the blade almost at the end of crafting process but it's needed to heat it before hammering it again
- Fixes and additions to transformations and combines in the book of blades
- Moved various transforms and combinations from the generic weapon smith category to the appropriate books (so you don't see broadswords in book of blades which aren't possible to be made with it at all)
- Changed Combine result in Basic Cooking from Simmered Clacker Stew to Simmering Clacker Stew. This makes Simmering Clacker stew makable with 2 different kinds of mushrooms
- Simmered Clacker Stew is deprecated and isn't going to be used in anything (and maybe removed in future) Same goes for Simmered Stew which is replaced by Simmering Stew in all
- Fixed unobtainable levels 15->16 and 99->100 in baking
- Moved mixed nuts combines and chopped nuts transformations in working in a kitchen
- Moved helms in a separate new category same goes for helm parts and shields which where present but unused. and added them to all merchants with armors in the categories.
- Made disposal of things through furnaces etc possible always with all books in mind (look your ores ;D)
- A big batch of name case fixes
- Fixed some items flags
- Removed some corrupted data from the db

Looks like something got broke in cooking. The recipe for making stew base got changed and the changed recipe doesn't work.
Just made stew base not that long ago with the old recipe but just tried the new recipe with no luck.

A new batch of changes and fixes has just got live on laanx today after running for some days on ezpcusa. These are the changes. It's not only crafting.
- New weapons categories for each type of weapon (so now we don't have "weapons" anymore but "weapons - sabre" "weapons - galkard" ...) obviously all npc where fitted with the new categories
- Axe was moved to farmer tools
- Various items were repositioned in better fitting categories (various things in plants parts and plants for example)
- Some fixes to knife (although it's still not working)
- equipped some npc with items they weren't wearing even if they should have
- Fixed reinforced axe issues FS#2038
- Sabres were removed from borralis (no it isn't a bug)
- Fixed the size of some items
- Various fixes to crafting. An interesting one is on Sword crafting (eg now handles can be heated and hammered again like for blades and fixes problems in the last commit about it)
- Various other fixes around i might have missed
- Fixed helm armor type not showing up anymore
- Fixed an exchange exploit

Thank you for mentioning that knives are still not working despite the work already done.
I just looked at my working with stock book and it only shows I can combine ingredients into 5 types of sludge. I appreciate the clean up but are things just not getting listed or are the abilities being changed?

Crafting Book content still has a known issue...engine is working on that.
Same deal for knives: we're trying to track down why they don't seem to work, as all indications at least in the data are that they should.

A fix for knives was applied to Shard today, should be on laanx in a day or two.

Hooray for Bovek! now we just need to be able to throw the knives to slay elusive bugs ;)

My level 15 blacksmithing character can no longer use his mastercrafted hammer but the plain hammer works fine. Hope you guys get some player storage working because carrying around an extra hammer that may be useful at some unknown higher level is a bit of a pain. ;)

OK what gives with the sudden shortage of ingredients needed to cook and bake. Suddenly no flour is available, buckets of water are not available and Jirosh doesn't have any food items for sale. This isn't good considering that I have events I need to get a lot of food for coming up soon. Also the lack of ingredients will make it hard on the Stonehead Tavern.

Items and categories were recently realigned, and while we tried to keep all the merchants in sync, we may have missed a couple...should be back to normal in a few days.

Laanx was just updated with these changes:
- Fixed the bug of books not showing crafting procedures. Now they are shown again
- Fixed a bug which crashed laanx 1/2 of the times
- Various fixes on some helms slots and art
- Cap and Hat moved to helms category
- Fixed various containers sizes
- Moved containers in a new CONTAINERS category and moved some types of furniture under structure category
- Renamed tools categories (smith tools, kitchen tools ) to TOOLS - TYPE for consistency
- Separated armor in 3 separate categories Heavy, Medium and Light
- Classic series of crafting fixes and reduction of times for heating
- Fixed issues with final quality in Axe crafting
- now the normal process is to heat and hammer a Dull blade without sharpening in between, repeating as necessary to try to improve quality. When you have the blade quality up to what you want, then Sharpen and Assemble.
- Fixed Knives to work!
- Some fixes on npc equipment and riveters where added to laanx in the maps

I'd bet neon lights wouldn't help noobs understand what's going on (and most of what's being worked on is transparent to newbies).
Seriously, probably the perpetuation of outdated information by veteran players is more detrimental than anything.
Too often I've seen people say this or that is broken, followed by "but I haven't played in a year so it might have changed."
If you haven't tried it in a month or so, there's a decent chance it's different with all the patches going in from various departments.

seems i must reheat my dull dagger blade after every use of the anvil, [basically doubles the time to train a dagger crafting lvl, is this correct?]

"You can stack dagger blades and heat them all at once, then hammer them one at a time.
I have 25 dagger blades right now, working up to 50 slowly.
Training goes pretty quick this way"

Use the steel->alpha->beta->delta->brittle->steel cycle a few times.
The "short" circle is working too:
heat blade in forge -> hammer blade on anvil -> use sharpening stone

Laanx and ezpcusa have now these updates:
- Fixed a server crash when crafting an item in your hand in certain conditions. (the last major cause of crashes of the server during this release)
- Fixed the stacking behavior when crafting an item in your hand. So no more dropped items when you have two items of the same quality.

a question about axes, since you moved then to farming tools they can't be repaired anymore. Are they still usable as weapons or are they all 1/50 now. If they are not weapons perhaps the weapon stats should be removed from the description, if they are they should still be repairable. Another thing, farming tool is still not right, should be woodcutting tool shouldn't it? I suppose that doesn't matter too much.

Surely axes used for war and axes used for domestic purposes would be of differing design according to their purpose.

Akkaido, it is just the ordinary axes that I'm asking about, the ones that look like hatchets. Battle axes are still purely weapons as far as I know.

Hmm... I couldn't tell what transformation was intentional and what wasn't.
E.g. hammering a Heated Beta Blade intentionally transforms it into a cold Delta Blade, but is the transformation of a Super-Heated Brittle Blade to cold Stock on the anvil intentional or not?
Oh... and whose intentions are we talking about, anyway? :D
(BTW I made a full list of all transformations that you can do on Forge, Anvil, Quench Tank, and Sharpening Stone. So I could help to verify that the actual transformations meet the intentions if there's interest - I have a background as a professional software developer and tester, so I know how to make such feedback complete and reliable.)

new updates are now on laanx. They have been on the shard for two weeks.
- First of all as all must have noticed by now pets are working with /pet attack. this was done about one week ago.
- Added Food Ingredients to Jirosh merchant
- Moved Apples in Dough combine from Basic Cookbook to Beginner Baking
- Riveter now can't be bought anymore: you have to use the riveter which are on the tables by all the smiths
- Quenching shield items will cool down them immediately and not in progression
- Fixed some items having the sack mesh
- Fixed Basic Cookbook: Mixing unmixed cinnamon egg to not require Baking skill
- Fixed reinforced axe kit name (now it's not double axe kit anymore)
- Removed Savory Stew from Jomed
- Updated Book of blades: Super Heated Knife Blade > Shape Knives > Dull Knife Blade (FS#2669)

Additional updates.
-Now all npc have 65 item of each type. this allows you to buy the amount you want from them 1-65 in one go without clicking continually
- Devils claw => devil's claw (fixed also a quest for this. but the trigger has still devils)
- Butchers broom => Butcher's broom
- Added miner for female parent
- some changes to loot modifiers ;)
