Dear All,
Thank you for helping me yesterday, PS is now running very smoothly on my Ubuntu computer.
...now for the dreaded Windows! It installed perfectly, I completed the tutorial (again!), and everything was running very smoothly. Finally, I wrote 'I want to go to Yliakum' and the game responded accordingly... the screen went black... and it stayed black. At the time I could still wave my little wand cursor around but I have since tried to reload and now I've lost my twig as well.
It's been a while since I've used Windows and I'm really not sure how to get around this one. Any help is much appreciated! Here are the stats:
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
Adapter Type ATI display adapter (0x9598), ATI Technologies Inc. compatible
Adapter Description ASUS EAH3650 Series
Total Physical Memory 2,048.00 MB
Available Physical Memory 1.44 GB
Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB
Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB
The background (entirely optional): Today I shall be moving to my new home in Chiang Mai (Thailand) and my gorgeous girlfriend will be staying in Bangkok until she finishes her degree. Even though there's only a 12 hour train journey between us, we thought it would be cool to meet up on PlaneShift occasionally and... should we get bored... try to kill one another. This annoying black screen is all that stands in our way. Sad, eh?! I think so!

Hello
First, no idea how that can happen. But you can go into irc (planeshift.it/irc.html) and try to catch a gm. Sometimes entering a map can make your computer crash (this might be of somewheat similar reason) and a gm can teleport you to different maps to try.
(Random suggestions are always turning off vertex buffer and preload models in the planeshift setup)

Dear Sen,
I turned off the vertex buffer and everything now works! We just tested it.
Thanks to you, my stay in Chiang Mai will be a little less lonely!
Kind regards,
Adala
