Title: Jayose expands Hydlaa Library
Post by: Tuathanach on May 24, 2009, 09:30:31 am
To the citizens of Hydlaa,

We, the Knowledge Seekers, are proud to announce that we have entered into a contract with Jayose to assist with the review and authentication of works submitted to the library by the citizens for potential addition. We call to encourage all the authors and scholars who have works they wish to see published to take advantage of this opportunity to enrich the materials available to their fellow citizens.

Works of fiction will be assessed as to whether they are appropriate for a public library. Works of non-fiction will be assessed, reviewed for authenticity, and appropriateness for public access.

To submit works for review, please give a copy of your submission to a member of the Knowledge Seekers or alternatively leave a copy at the University (PM Tuathanach via hydlaaplaza.com/smf).

Thank you for your creativity and scholarly pursuits,

Tuathanach
Praesidior of the Knowledge Seekers

Posted by Rizin on the behalf of Jayose ;)

Jayose heads out to the plaza, stopping once at the message board. Spotting the Knowledge Seekers post he clears his throat, "Finally, this is my last chance to expedite book review." Jayose goes back to walking to his destination, "I cannot wait to see what they bring me."

[Does this thread mean the knowledge seekers are an "official" guild now?]

The Imperial Scholars still have a sizeable library around, I guess we could donate some of the less dangerous books to the public. Given some terms are met.

Kinda depends on what you call an "official" guild. The Knowledge Seekers have been an official planeshift guild for many years in any case. The fact that we are now "employed" by Jayose to review all of the books you find worthy to submit for inclusion, doesn't make the guild any more or less than any other guild in any case. We've only been chosen to make a first assessment on fitness for the books you'd like to have included in the library.

jees I wonder if any of my various Kran origin books survived. They could be filed under fairy tales by anonymous.

I suspect most of them got blown away by the winds of time. I might have to produce a new copy, then again the ulber encrustallation theory was pretty far-fetched even for a fairy tale :)

I wonder if the Devs could look through the database and retrieve book contents in the inventories of characters who haven't been played for 2 years or more. Those books could then be added as the "antiquity" section to whatever books the Knowledge Seekers assess for their project.

I mean surely there must be gems among those "lost books"  ;) ...

Erelenga Karal is excited and roams the dome to meet the famous authors he remembers from the last book fairs. The first huge novel is already put into the review chamber; it is so long, Lori might have to copy and spread it across several volumes...

Selesta happily hands in her historical-fiction book. As she hands it in she tries to slip a few Tria into Tuathanach's hands.

We will not be doing this. :)

 Hmmm?

[Tuathanach, I'm glad for one that you got this going and have begun to work with it. I have a few donations to add to your collection of materials. I will also offer more in the future as well. I feel it offers a great opportunity for player involvement into the culture of Yliakum. I hope that many players take this chance to add to library, as this will generate more interests in the arts and literature aspects that players may have. I for one think that it is a big deal, and a much needed one to improve player interaction and involvement in the PS community.]

"Thank you and the Knowledge Seekers and the others for stepping up to take this on and offering this opportunity."

Taradiddle Lightstaff looks frustrated at Jayose. "Good sir, I understand you cannot accept my humble submissions yourself but I have looked for one of these 'Knowledge Seekers' in your employ since I saw their post. I have been all over Hydlaa. They are not to be found. It is just three small books. May I not leave them in your care to give to them?"
Jayose pushes the little stack of tomes back at the frustrated Taradiddle.
"Thank you for your apathy sir! I shall go and be ignored in a better establishment!"
The dejected mage stomps out of the library.

Taradiddle, you can PM the books to Tauthanach...

...you will be able to do this once you get ten posts total. I'm sorry if you find that frustrating but it is no reason to blame the guild nor the NPC's. Post on the Hydlaa open section, etc, and you can quickly get enough posts to be able to PM and successfully submit your books for review.

Erelenga Karal sends a little excuse message...
__

We are really sorry that we have a job and many real life issues and are not able to play around the clock... ;) - weekends are a better chance, usually. There is no guarantee that we can cover all timezones even. But our university office (http://knowledge-seekers.alphasys.nl) is usually open, just register like an aspirant.

When might we expect these renovations to pass or receive word if our books were accepted?

A general statement about the process:

Having the books in-game is a nice part of the roleplay.

But to review the submissions, we will use our KS forums to publish them to our guild members, and after we received a number of opinions, we will forward them to the deevlopers.

Therefore it is in general useful to receive the book content outside of the game - via a Personal Message in this forum or the KS forum, or as a posting here in the Storywriting area (just send us a link to the thread then), or from registered members in the KS forum.

If you wrote such a book only in-game so far, we can support you making a local copy as textfile on your harddirive (which works only for your own self-written books now) and finding it (especially under Windows, the location is slightly hidden from the normal user).

We already thank the first authors who submitted their work.

I know this thread is old but I'm posting here because for some reason I am not able to PM anyone (Tuathanach) and I haven't seen any of the guild in-game lately. Please could you update me on the status of library submissions? Are you still accepting books, and would Jayose consider setting up new shelves for fiction and poetry?
Thanks.

We still have no deadline from the Settings department (namely drJack). So we are still accepting submissions.

I am sorry that the Knowledge Seekers are not very present anymore, but we will try our best to be there when an appointment is suggested.

The preferable way to receive submissions is a registration in our forums and a post in our Department of Reviews Inbox (http://knowledge-seekers.alphasys.nl/smf/index.php?board=89.0). But a PM to me is also acceptable.

Thanks Erelenga/ ligH!

I too am still in game though much less frequently than last year, due to school (and yes, grad school goes through the summer too). I can accept submissions in game, but it is best if you pm or submit online through LigH's contact above.

And we all still hope that the new annex will arrive in game soon!TM  :whistling:

Thankee,
Roled

Eardstapa, sorry i have not seen you in game. I guess the reason you can't pm anyone might be you have only ever posted once, i think you need 10 posts before you can PM.

Hopefully will meet you in game soon.

Thanks for the quick and helpful replies, LigH, Roled and Tuathanach, nice to know you're still around. No I won't be sending out another 8 posts just to PM - but I will be submitting some works when I finish, either through your forum or if I see you in-game.

Hi LigH, Roled, Tuathanach and other Knowledge Seekers,
I'm currently awaiting admin approval to visit the link LigH posted, the Department of Submissions in your forum. Just to make sure that I've understood correctly, the delay is at the devs' end (PS settings dept) rather than because of a dearth of submissions or willing vetters? Has there also been some controversy about what makes good literature? I'm asking because I'm wondering if I can help with any stage of the process. I can provide more background information about my qualifications in your forum. Sorry if this is going over old ground -- I'm fairly new to the game, so all I know are the two threads on this topic.

Hi LigH, Roled, Tuathanach and other Knowledge Seekers,...

Hi Eardstapa- Thanks for your offer of help and assistance. We KS and some others have been reading, discussing, vetting, and submitting to the dev's volumes for quite a while now. I am sure when the dev's find time, the Library Annex will appear!

in the meantime, the KS have sponsored Author's Readings at our Book Faires from time to time, which have been well attended and certainly interesting. Several authors have sold their volumes in game to other characters at these fairs.

Thanks again for your offer to help- sounds like you have a strong interest in expanding the literary history of Yliakum. I look forward to meeting you ig and discussing books, poetry or whatever!

Yers,
Roled Rolak
Proctor of the Knowledge Seekers
Professor of Magicks at the University of Yliakum

I'm currently awaiting admin approval to visit the link LigH posted, the Department of Submissions in your forum.

Don't count on it - I registered there too because LigH told me to submit my work there, but my account never got approved. Now, it's deleted. I guess they don't want any submission, or are not in consent about who should register at their forum, or don't know that this section is only available to registered users... not sure. I didn't care either and just sent LigH a link via IRC (Freenode server).

Anyway, I'm really curious if this will ever be completed. And if my book will be approved.

I am sorry to hear that your registration was deleted ... that happened probably because your username and email address looked too much like a spammer address, and your registration was unexpected. The Knowledge Seekers forum was so heavily raided by spammers that our Admin had to change it to manual registration. But humans may fail sometimes.

So whoever is interested in registering: talk to us first to ensure that our Admin knows you will be trying. Especially if your email address is rather random looking.

@ derula: It is a pity that you prefer to talk about it here and now, instead directly with me earlier. That mistake could have been solved quickly. BTW: We just had a similar case this week.

@ derula: It is a pity that you prefer to talk about it here and now, instead directly with me earlier.

That's just how pitiable I am :) you know I like drama :P

Seriously though... I found it easier to just sent you the book via IRC than a) inform you that my account needs clearance, then b) wait for it to get activated and c) post a single post and never use the account any more. I found it weird that you told me to register there and then I didn't get approved. But whatever.

Has your admin tried this (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=544) or something else (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?action=search;type=19) against the spambots? I have an Akismet plugin (on a MyBB though, not an SMF) and so far it seems to work very well.

Sorry for off-topic. *goes away*

We have this (http://www.alphasys.nl/arianne/start.html), and are quite happy with Andoryn the Admin. :)

And the "mailing route" is acceptable, of course. But since the last burglary we have to protect our Tower of Knowledge ... ;)
