Title: Problems with PlaneShift on Vista
Post by: hemanshs85 on May 28, 2009, 03:31:44 am: I started trying to run PlaneShift on Vista today and have not had any luck so far. My computer meets all the requirements. (I think) I downloaded the file from the Xordan mirror then ran the Installer. The first time I changed Program Files to My documents, but i dont think that was right. When I would try and run the client it would have an EXCEPTION ACCESS VIOLATION and then close. I read about changing some settings on pssetup but it would close as soon as i opened it. After that i uninstalled and reinstalled with the PlaneShift Steel Blue file under C:/Users/USERNAME/documents/PlaneShift Steel Blue. Pretty much the exact same thing happened. I have made sure the port 7777 is enabled and my firewall isnt blocking it and disabled UAC. My Video Card is up to date also. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me. I have played the game at my house with a mac and really enjoyed it. Thanks

P.S. Forgot to add that i did update both times.

If the answer is no, try running it with admin privileges, you could also try that with the game to see if it helps.

I believe there is something like an error.log in your planeshift install directory after you started the game. Can you post that content somewhere?

Also this may not make a difference but the game wont even get the the login screen, it just EXCEPTION ACCESS VIOLATION as soon as the client opens. I'm not used to Vista so I may just be installing it wrong or something. Thanks

Post by: hemanshs85 on May 29, 2009, 09:39:22 pm: I checked and I couldnt find it. I checked the PS Steel Blue folder and the AppData folder the only thing was the updaterinfo.xml. Here is the exact message it creates when it fails.

Would you like to save a diagnostic file?

This happens as soon as PlaneShift opens before it even gets to the picture before the login screen

Post by: curbal on November 09, 2009, 06:21:15 am: Maybe you could try installing the game in the D drive. I'm not an expert, but Vista seems to have a problem with games installed in the C drive. This might help you.

Post by: morgolock on November 10, 2009, 11:07:40 pm: I had the same problem. I fixed it installing the latest drivers for my graphic card.

My graphic card is an onboard ATI Radeon 1200, the problem disappeared after installing Catayst 9.3
