I like to move the screen with mouse. Second me keyboard is too...too...slow.
Good work!!! (I like your work)
-
Press \\ (or /?)
-
I think he may be referring to mouse move which PS doesn\'t have yet
-
yes, you should put in an option where you can use your mouseball to go forward (or look up and down which is also useful).
-
I would love to be able to turn side to side with the mouse. The best example I can think of would be Counter-Strike, you use your mouse to look around the arrows or the \"W,A,S,D\" to move forward, back, and side to side. Also I have a pretty old and dark monitor, so I would love to see a Gamma or a Brightness adjustment. The world looks great, but I noticed when I get back in some of the caves everything goes black and I have to just wonder around in every direction until I find my way to light.

W A S D already is like that :) I wouldnt mind having the mouse look on, and pressing the second mouse button to go forward, and just having to double click on an item.
-
Uhm, peeps, CS style mouse look is already in the game, just press \\ or # (or whatever key is just to the left of the enter key on your keyboard) to activate it. Press it again to deactivate.
Moraudin
-
no Moraudin your thinking of free look with the mouse we want to actually turn our character with the mouse like in a First Person Shooter
-
?( Ok, now I\'m confused... If you press # (or whatever) and you move your mouse left/right your character turns left/right, no? I don\'t get the difference you seem to be making between looking and turning, unless you\'re thinking of a mech warrior style torso twist...
Moraudin
-
Umm... If you press the *, /, # or whatever the button is called on your keyboard, while you\'re in first person view of your character, you can use W, A, S, D to move around, just like a first person shooter. So I can\'t really see what the problem is?
-
You mean that you want to move like in Morrowind?
-
Actually, it\'s not quite the same. Instead of looking left or right when you move your mouse left or right, it turns the world sideways or upside down; something that is very difficult to do in real life. I don\'t have anything against this.
I like turning my head umop-ap!sdn.
-
Damn your eyes! Don\'t try to get something so devilish as moving the sight with a mouse into the game. Hellfiend!
-
Mouse + keyboard is still the best way to move. I don\'t want any \"tank-movement\". This is a computer-game, not a console-game! :)
-
Alright lets settle this PS does not have controls like a first Person Shooter this is what we want when we move our mouse left we want our character to turn left when we move a mouse right we want out character to move right when we move our mouse back (if yout inverted like me) you want your character to look up when we push our mouse forward we want him to look down
and we want the keys WSAD to be W=walk forawrd
S=backpedal
A=Starfe left
D=strafe right
if this doesn\'t make any sense I\'ll make it easier for you RPG fokes we want our mouse to act like it does in Morrowind, Counter Strike, Half Life etc
-
The keyboard WASD thing is already in PS.
The mouselook thing works the way it works. Sorry it doesn\'t work like your FPSs.
-
It should work like a normal game - sorry if the basics escape you.
-
do people not read the thread before they post? anyway what i\'m wondering is why everybody uses wasd when esdf is clearly superior, your all fools i say(thats a joke ok).
-
seriously people go play morrowind and see how they set up the controls, that\'s what i would liketo see here, that was the best control set up ever(except for cap lock being the run toggle, i would exit the game and than talk to all my friends in caps)

That\'s a tad callous, don\'t you think? Would it really be that difficult to add the ability to invert the mouselook? I tried setting the mouse sensitivity to a negative value, but that didn\'t work.
I\'d like to see seperate sensitivity settings for the X and Y axis\'s, as well. The left-right look around is more sluggish than the up-down.
Also, as someone mentioned: X axis sensitivity seems to be locked at \"1\" indoors, regardless of the user\'s settings. Meaning that you\'re pretty much forced to use the mouse keys to turn once indoors. Odd.
-
I\'ve been searching for this thread for long and finally find it :D.
here\'s just my idea :
Indeed mouse look is cool, but
just enable mouse look on right click, because if mouse look is permanent it can be too hard to target something with lags or simply a bad video card.

That\'s why mouselooks is enabled by pressing a key in the first place.

Good post, I\'m interested on seeing the response. I also think the options should be there to adjust sensitivity, inverting, etc. I prefer quite a low sensitivity (because I suffer from first-person motion sickness in games), although the default settings in PS are almost unusable.

ugh.. how can someone revive such a stupid thread like this -_-
Press \\ to activate mouselook, press it again to de-activate it.. it that so difficult/unlogic?
-
Well I was wondering the same thing but never bothered me that much to say anything but thanks for the lesson :D
-
Left mouse button to run (holding it) would be cool :p
But what would be better is toggle mouse look on/off with the left mouse button :) (or right and than change \"target\" to the left mouse
-
Don\'t forget about adding the INVERT MOUSE setting. It is necessary for some people (like me).
Personally I like the WASD and free mouselook.
I don\'t think switching to the mouse cursor is necessary for picking up/dropping/using item. Just aim and press a key on the keyboard is ok.
No hands on screen, cursors, point and click actions switching and all this crap...
I don\'t think head movement is good in the game. It complicates character control and gives nothing.
Morrowind style is perfect.
I know no one playing without mouselook now... I\'d made it default, it\'s just comfortable.
It is all about \"How to forget that you\'re sitting in front of mouse/keyboard/screen, and immerse in the virtual world\" thing.
This game has a great potential.
Don\'t waste it.
-
I agree with gregers...
The mouse look should be default. And to access the other stuff people would use the key board... Here is my suggestion,
Left Click = Use
Middle Click (the wheel) = Jump
Right Click = Attack (REMEMBER: I do not know the combat system in CB)
Arrows = Movement
Shift = Run
Caps Lock = Toggle Run/Walk mode
I = Inventory
S = Skills/Stats
C = Crouch (If that is in CB)
V = Toggle Camera View
T = Talk
Mouse wheel = Quick cycle through the inventory?
O = Options menu (Video/Sound/Controlls)
M = Misc. Menu (For other stuff)
EDIT: Added stuff...
-
I like that idea, it is a great idea so we don\'t have to constantly be pressing buttons.
-
it is good, but it gives off too much of an FPS feel. i think its fine the way it is, as long as devs program surroundings acordingly
-
How has this thread gone for so long?
This is planeshift, and not morrowind, Morrowind was not a good game, get over it.
This is not a half-life spawn, in an mmorpg you don\'t need to be able to run around like in CS.
The game is as it is, and all I\'d change is add an adjustable sensitivity... I like PS how it is, not a as a morrowind clone.
As for config? Can\'t you change controls with keys.xml?
-
This thread is so long because it\'s very important how do you interact with the game...
I quit playing Anarchy online because I couldn\'t get used to their idea of ergonomic MMI.
I like Project Entropia MMI ... check it out. It\'s a good compromise.
And about changing keys.xml?
Yeah we can. We can even do it with the vi editor - but it is 2004 not 1986.
MMI- (Man - Machine Interface)
-
Okay first off, after reading this, I went in game, and if you ask me, mouse look is perfectly fine for a game with zero combat. (Yes zero is smaller than a small amount). Why do you need fancy mouselook?
I think the idea of moving by clicking a mouse is ludicrous, and err... lazy... Press the keys.
And forgive my bluntness, but what the heck has 1986 got to do with anything? I was one, go me!
Too lazy to edit a file? Don\'t like it, create your own game, or maybe a mod that allows you to change your keys in game...
-
A: It is not hard to edit the keys.xml
B: 1986 was a very good year.
C: the fact that computers have been around so long should make you more able to understand how to use them properly not less capable of editing a text file.
D: The mouse look is fine and you should get used to using another interface instead of demanding that everyone make things your way. There are more people in the world than just you and ya\'all are being rather selfish in saying that the interface needs to work just for you.
If on the otherhand you are proposing that they include your mouselook functions as an option, then they will probably get on that as soon as they get to the rest of the \'bells and whistles\' as Acraig so lovingly calls them.

arghh this belongs in newbie help. someone shut this thread down please.
