We are new guild in Yliakum looking for members for more information go to http://web.me.com/tyfusleroy/www.dragonheartlegacy.com/ or talk to Zoranah Fireyes in-game.
-
Umm, where is your back story? And AFAIK, there are no dragons in Planeshift.
-
Oh noes, they had to say "dragon"...
-
Yes the "dragon" name, its rather unstable at the moment so it might change. Not really certain right now.

This story begins long ago, long before Hydlaa or Ojaveda had even been thought of. In fact, it begins in a small village of Dermorians called Salihium, located next to the Pick and Ore. This village was special, because the villagers drew great power from the Pick and Ore. Each village member was given a shard of the Pick and Ore when they became of age. It was fabled that the Pick and Ore was an old, fossilized Dragon Heart, so naturally the villagers called their shards Dragon Hearts. Years passed, people moved, and villagers died, until only a few still remembered the Dragon Heart. Knowing that this was a source of great power, the few villagers left passed down the story and the tradition to their children so that the legacy might stay alive. It was the duty of the family leader to lead a pilgrimage once every year to the Pick and Ore so that their children could pass down the story to their children and so on. The story of our guild founders begins many years later as each learns of his heritage. It is odd how fate works that 5 people could all meet at the exact same time at the Pick and Ore for the exact same reason, but that is something only Laanx or Talad may know. As these people met they became friends and realized that in a way they were all related. It became their mission to find any other former villagers and to help the others obtain this power. With this mission in mind, they created the band of searchers called.....The Dragonheart Legacy.
Here is the background story. It is also on the website.

While I like the back story it has had some thought in it, there are quite a few discrepancies with settings, firstly as has been pointed out Dragons are not, have not, and will not be a part of PlaneShift so that bit will need rethinking both as an item and as a source of power (sounds suspiciously like godmodding). Both Hydlaa and Ojaveda were founded before the Demorians arrived so that part will also need revising. As for a village near the Pick and Ore called Salihium please avoid naming places precisely as we do have many villages etc already in place in the settings docs just not yet released.
Apart from that I like the idea and good luck, if you need help feel free to pm or email me

I gave some thought to this and looked at the history and thought that maybe that we could say they brought this power from Dermoria and they are seeking to share it with the rest of Yliakum. This is just a thought, but it may work well into their unknown land. The Dragonheart is a major part of what we wanted our guild story to be so we would really like some way to include this.
This story begins long ago. In fact, it begins in a small village of Dermorians in the ancient land of Dermoria. This village was special, because the villagers drew great power from an ancient structure. Each village member was given a shard of the structure when they became of age. It was fabled that the structure was an old, fossilized Dragon Heart, so naturally the villagers called their shards Dragon Hearts. As time passed and they were forced to escape to the Stone Labyrinth by the nomadic knights, people began to forget their once great power. The elders, knowing Laanx would want this power kept it very secretive, passing it down only to their children, as to keep it a secret. This knowledge was passed down for centuries until, only 6 families of elder descent were left. This new generation of Heartbearers realized that the time for secrecy had passed and that it should only be fair for them to share their power with the rest of Yliakum. It became their mission to teach the other races and the Dermorians who had forgotten of this power. With this mission in mind, they created the band of searchers called.....The Dragonheart Legacy.
Hopefully this is an improvement.
Also may be worthy to note that its fabled that it was a dragon heart so it doesn't definitively state that there were dragons, just means it was more of a myth.
Thanks

Nobody has ever heard of dragons; it would be the same as naming your guild The UFO Legacy. You would have to say that your "myth" was completely original, and "dragon" just doesn't sound original enough.
I suppose you could make up some beast and give it a name that's a near-anagram of "dragon" and it could pass, but I can't say that will satisfy everyone.
-
One concern I might raise is about this `power`. Could you explain a bit more about it/how it works? I only worry that, if it`s not particularly easily explained via game mechanics or reasonable roleplay you`ll get claims of godmodding from other players.
If you`re looking for some good or inspiring locations, the descriptions of the Dome in the two Vigesimi books are excellent and very detailed.
Not meaning to criticize (other than constructively) :)

Ah, I didn't really think about the RP aspect of therm not even existing. I will put soime thought into that.
About the source of power, it's just something cool I thought of not actually anything that exists.
Also wondering if it would be ok if I renamed the dragons to something else, and then said they only exist on Dermoria if that would cover that issue. As there isn't much about that it would explain why other people from Yliakum don't know they exist.
Thanks

That begs the question if they only exist on Demoria how did a petrified heart get to Yliakum and why? Just use things already in game and you can't go wrong :)
-
hmmm I think it's clear the name is against settings in my opinion.
-
Where are the settings? Also, the fabled dragonheart doesn't come to Yliakum, just the shards that the people bring along with them that they pass down.
-
As far as I am concerned he had it right, they were fabled to be remnants of a dragon. That doesn't say that dragons ever existed or that whatever this was actually was a dragon heart. It just says that this was the story of their origin, most likely entirely fictitious.
Now if he wants to claim that they actually have power that has been used since they arrived in Yliakum, that is a different story. In that case he ought to come up with some out of character justification within the settings as to why these things have power. Perhaps each shard encompasses a glyph of some kind. Perhaps something else. Even then he will not be able to use the power unless other people play along.

There are a few resources on the main website. You can start here:
http://www.planeshift.it/setting.html
...and continue with the items below that on the website.
The PlaneShift setting is quite rich and allows you to create a myriad of stories. It just doesn't encompass dragons, fairies, gnomes, vampires etc. It was probably never intended that way by the settings writers. So, instead of trying to persuade anyone that it's ok, perhaps work around it somehow? I am certain there is a way, just won't contain any dragons. PlaneShift does have flying animals - so perhaps you could use that?
-
Ok, thanks. I need to have a meeting with the other guild members to decide what course to take, as this most likely means a name change. After that, I will post the updated (and hopefully final) version of the guild background story.
-
What about the shard of the heart of the ancient ancestor of the Pterosaurs or Megaras?
The Shadowfax of the air....
It'd fit Settings better than the old Dragonheart idea.
-
Or better yet why not make "Dragons" a little know mytholgical creature from Dermoia? (Yes i know i spellt that wrong) That gives you full right to ICly ignore the name. Or ask what is a dragon?
-
Dragons a Dragon.
Why not give it an awesome name you made yourself?
Be creative. Here at PlaneShift, we <3 creativity.

... Dragons are not, have not, and will not be a part of PlaneShift ...
PlaneShift includes Dermoria and any other world

So im not creative? I find that insulting. So its not creative to take somthing that exsits change it?
PlaneShift includes Dermoria and any other world
I dont get why that matters.

Nitpicking doesn't go anywhere. Start listening to the good advices you have received, really. :) You have a very good start with the story, you only need to tweak it a little bit, yet you cling to one element of it very very hard, in spite of repeatedly being told it's not part of the settings.
If PS includes Dermoria it falls under the same settings rules.
-
Im sorry but i see no good advice. I only see people complaining about the name of this guild.
I did not choose this name, or make the history. Also are there any guilds that do not draw some idea or concept from RL?
Where is this "No Dragons" rule i want to see it.

Theres been plenty of advice but it seems you refuse to see it
If you didn't choose the name or write the story, why are you complaining.
There is no rule only fact,
This is a pointless debate that goes back for at least 5 years if not decades, if you disagree join the Settings team, spend a lot of time and effort working yourself into a position where your voice will be heard and then put forward Dragons and try and persuade the rest of us.
Now allow this thread to get back on topic, I will remove any more posts that stray from purely Guild matters
-
Ill ask the guild leader about the name.
-
Ok, I've been busy lately so if you think I've abandoned sorry ,but no. I guess with all this arguing I will do my best to address these issues and end further pointless bickering, that partains to not understanding our sideof the arguement.
1. Mordraugion, I see your point, but it helps me if you suggest ideas when you are going to reject things.
2. The thing about Dermoria being part of PlaneShift that makes sense, but if we are going to argue that we MUST stick to the settings and mainly RP then don't we agree that worlds are different? If Dermoria and Yliakum were the same then they wouldnt be called separate things and have different races.
3. I agree that dragons are from RL and 1 of the goals of PS is to be different than other games. BUT as I said before I think Dermoria is different than Yliakum. There is very little to build upon its origins, etc. in the settings. When I look at these posts and the history of the creation of PS they want the players to suggest new ideas to help make PS as original as possible. So that is why we are arguing because we feel that one of the goals of the game is to be original, thus the reason for us to be from Dermoria. Since it had little info about I thought that would make it less complicated for the RP aspect because there is little in the settings and in the game itself about Dermoria. If we appear out of nowhere are say that we get power from a "creature's heart" on Dermoria, there is nothing in-game that says no these didnt exist. The guild story explains why this wouldnt show up in the records of Yliakum because this was a secret.
I think I covered the main things. We will change the dragon part and if you guys just completely and utterly dont like the whole aspect of dermoria then we will go to another course for our story. We would like to be original and thought this was quite good, but if we made one that we thought was good then I imagine we can make another.
Thanks.

There are no Dragons in Planeshift. This a fact. We've been having this argument since I was 13.

The whole point is that dragons are not orriginal, saying you come from another world to not have the same rules apply to you is also not orriginal nor is giving yourself powers that oters do not.
This may sounds kinda harsh and perhaps it is, but that is the reasons people are opposed to such an RP.

Uh...I thought i agreed awhile back and then re-addressed it in this that we would change the dragon part. There is another spot were i said a similiar thing also i just cant go back far enough to quote it. (hopefully the quote and highlight worked. if it looks weird its bc i usually dont use them ,so this was a first)
