Good Luck, and you will more likely than not need a pick.

To mine platinum, since it is the fastest way to get tria, You can try to kill things and loot but it takes abit longer to get tria that way. YOu mine platinum and sell it to people who smelt it and make money. The average price is 1000-1100 tria per platinum ore.

You should learn to roleplay if you don't know how, maybe learn a craft, get a rock pick to mine for money and a sword to hunt and train combat skills. Other than that you can explore new areas and have fun. And stop by any player run establishments that you find.  :D

Best tip: Look and listen.

Watch other characters doing something.

Look at other characters' descriptions (sometimes they have a custom one).

Listen to them talking with each other.

When you got a feeling for the topics being relevant to this world, develop your own character and interact.

Planeshift is different than most MMORPG's. Along with improving your character and gaining money (trias), you'll see from how others interact (as LigH stated), this is a "deeper" game. Place yourself in your characters shoes and "live" how your character would.

Use your imagination.

Ah, just a quick addition. If you happen to come by the Stonehead tavern feel free to say hi. I'd be happy to help you out.

Edit: Whoops, missed it's June XD

I don't know why people continue to post on this thread considering the OP hasn't been active on the forums since June.

at least this place has nice people that care enough to try and help their fellow players out.

and even if it the OP doesn't ever see it, at least its there for any one else that searches for the topic.  :)

Yup... like me :)

Downloaded and started playing just a few hours ago...

now, I'm already trolling the forums... sheesh...

Need to figure out what I'm supposed to do anyway... Role playing is easy (recovering D&D nerd from the 80's here)

but wandering around aimlessly hinders role playing lol especially since I've yet to see a player :)

The way you are saying it makes it look as if you are wandering in the wilderness ;). Try the cities, people tend to aggregate around smithies or in the Kada-El tavern (in Hydlaa).

Get to know the city and the citizen first before you walk around outside of town. Talk to the NPCs (skyblue labels), ask them who they are, what they work and teach... even if you can help them (but be aware that quests can seem simple and develop complicated quickly).

And don't be surprised that there are daytimes with more or less players (look at the status page of http://laanx.fragnetics.com to see the changes plotted).
