Title: No next after continue
Post by: ExxWhyZee on June 23, 2009, 04:32:51 pm
                                                                                                                                ???
I was having a problem registering, so I found on here that a while back, Rizin, wanted emailed by someone that was also having problems.  So I emailed them, and that is fixed, I can now log on to the server.  However, when I create a new character, then hit 'quick' or 'custom'.  I get the warning message saying 'before hitting next again.....'  and I hit 'ok'.  According to the help thing, there should be a 'next' now where the 'custom' was.  There isn't, still says 'custom'.  Now when I click the buttons, it says 'name is in server database', and to hit 'ok'.  Everytime.

I have version 0.4.03 .  I am on Vista Home Premium, Memory : 3070 MB, Processor : AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-64 2.20 GHz, and is a laptop so prolly shared.

                                                                                                                   ???[_ExxWhyZee_]???

Hello

Hmmm... sounds like the message is a bit misleading. Actually you only have to press the custom or quick button twice as you did to continue.
The message you got then (name is in server database) should mean that the name you chose is already taken by someone else. Try to find another name and it should work :)

I did a bunch of names, same thing.  How different do they have to be?

When I do Aaron Pickersonville, it says first name is in use.
When I did Mathew Pickersonville, it says name is in use.

but I did Xyzaa Pickersonville and it allowed it.  Fun. Thanks.

Normal names such as might be your own have been reserved as there can only be one person with a given name. I suppose it was felt it was better to not allow anyone to be Bill or Ted in this excellent adventure. If you use the random name generator you still run into the problem of a duplicate name sometimes.

Fun..
Yeah, I had that on every random.  That would probably be difficult to make it just look at last names.  So there is no way at the time to make a family, besides a guild.  I find family closer than friends.  But, oh well, thanks.

Due to the way the naming system is handled we need to avoid duplicate names. I'm sure it will be looked at in the future when more pressing matters are dealt with
