I would be interested by the possibility to have some sort of a short tag describing what a character is currently doing if he is busy for a while.
ie: A character is currently repairing an axe, standing in front of an anvil. It would be nice to be able to have a tag, like speaking ones (perhaps with a special color), where we could write for surrounding people or approching ones "/me is fixing the handle of an old rusty axe"
It could help to have an idea to get in contact with people who are currently doing crafts or depicting themselves doing some special RP, or having to stay doing nothing else for a while. And this tag would appear for people closing by, even after you wrote it.
-
Then you would be spamming to the people who already heard it.

I haven't seen before we could do this :)
Thanks for the idea
So here it is : Occupation Tag in BugTracker, #3108 (http://bugs.hydlaaplaza.com/flyspray/index.php?sort=desc&order=id&order2=&sort2=asc&project=2&do=details&task_id=3108)

I'm going to vote for this feature.
I believe that, although it would become redundant when more animations and emotes are added to the models, the occupation tag would prove useful for a very long time.

Exactly my point :)

text messages that correlate with crafting actions ?
Er eh.. Maybe I don't want to hear you and 6 other people putting a blade into the forge or picking ingots in and out of the furnace in main :) Having a sound effect for such things might be more realistic. To me this is noise...
As mentioned earlier, if your feeling others out to see if they will rp, try narrating some of your actions. This can be added to short cut buttons.
/me raises his hammer once more and drops it on the blade.
/me screams shortly after a meaty thud and a brief moment of silence. "Stupid frickin hammer !"
/me pulls his hand back from the forge nervously after tossing in a blade. The smell of burnt hair is apparent.
/me 's sleeve catches on fire as he attempts to remove an ingot from the furnace. Rigywn hops and shakes his arm until the fire is out.

Yet what you suggest (and what we already do) is even more noise. Or spam, as UtM called it.

Only if it is done incessantly... which is what an automatic feature would do right? Also, you can tell a spamming player to shut up, or /ignore them, but at this point "/ignore" does not filter automatic action tags or emotes. I don't really want to know who is working on which crafting step each time I walk by Harnquist's... :whistling:

What if the message were only to show up when the other character was selected? That way it would only be visible to those who are interested, and it would go away if they didn't want to keep seeing it over the other's head by deselecting.
-
Sorry, I was a little unclear. I meant to say add a shortcut if its something your char would say a lot. ( I was not suggesting adding a /say to buttons used to initiate crafting actions)

My idea was to have something short, not to fill the Main tab, or to have it displayed if you click on the player if it is possible.
But anyway, it should be very noisy if there would be 7 people working around the furnace :)
Having a sound effect for such things might be more realistic.
Of course, as more cinetics for actions, and emotes displayed in the moves of the character. But it could help in the meantime (for me).

Spam? Noise? ... Hey! If I stand next to an anvil or a mountebank in real-life, that is noise!
If you stand next to a sound source, expect to hear it, and possibly louder than average chat.
If you want to chat in silence, don't stand next to a sound source that could annoy you.
Whoa ... me objecting UtM ... :-X

"My idea was to have something short, not to fill the Main tab, or to have it displayed if you click on the player if it is possible."
Sorry .. guess I misunderstood... thats a bit different then hearing every action each player makes within a given radius.
In fact this may be a great way to learn how to do a given task..... /watch playerx

np. I don't know if I have the correct answer. It is just an idea I got as I was wandering around Hydlaa Plaza and saw many characters sitting around or obviously doing metallurgy crafts. I thought it would be nice to know what someone is doing without having to ask. It would help to have a first contact or give more chance to nice RP. And sometime I felt I would like to be able to let people know around what I am doing sit in the middle of nothing, as I am a bit fed up with the "are you travelling to : <1>Oja ? <2>Bronze Doors ?" first question ;)
