Title: What do you call English in Yliakum?
Post by: PhoenixRizin on August 19, 2009, 04:19:08 pm
Random question. When someone is speaking english IC, since in this world there is no England what would you say they are speaking? Hydlaan? Ylian? Just curious because my enki character tends to use enkien phrases, and one character requested IC that he speak so everyone could understand. So it made me think, "If I should stop speaking enkien, then what would I start speaking?" Not vital to my RP but just curious.

It is most often called Common, though it is derived mostly from Lemur/Kran.

Technically, no other language is commonly used, as they have not been passed down through the generations. Any language other than Common/Lemur/Kran that you are using has been rediscovered over the last two generations (through books found/released/whatever) so there is NO character completely fluent in the other race tongues, and much of their language has been lost forever. As such, NO character would be raised completely under the influence of another language. Aka, the "I grew up in a village of [Race] that only spoke [Language] so I am different than you" story. No such village exists.

My char wasnt dropped out the womb speaking enkien. He studies it as an adult. He just feels a sense of history by speaking the little enkien he knows. And most of what he says you can hear the NPCs say.

He grew up in a Ylian village. So if I WAS playing the language card enkien wouldn't be it. Plus I think he has plenty of other things to make him stand out.

It is so important - even a few gobbles feel an urge to learn it. ;)

@ Rigwyn: Maybe "Pel Perrakithor" is easier for you?  :detective:

he can never seem to remember any of those Enki phrases.

Therefore I wonder if Stonebreaker is easier for you.
