Title: No sound
Post by: CatalystEffect on September 16, 2009, 01:49:42 pm

      I have read the quick fix post for no sound, but don't know what a zipped file is or anything. So I was wondering if anyone could explain in laymen terms how I might go about getting sound in the game, or at least let me know if I should just give up and find something else to play.

I'm not sure which thread you are refering to, or which operating sysyem you use.

This thread http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=34258.0 (http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=34258.0) does not involve zipped files and is a fix for Windows XP and Vista.

"For thouse that have no sound or some sound and then it dissaperes, it's just a edited and ziped psclient.cfg file so just unzip it into your planeshift folder and you should be set to go.

Also it seems to fix some problems related to not being able to load the client on some systems, mainly windows"

   That was the link I was talking about. Not to sound stupid but I don't know what that means. I'm using windows XP by the way.

Follow the instructions in Bovek's post (the first reply)

Requoted here for easy reference.

For those not willing to just blindly take a complete file from someone and figure out what is different:

Beginning Line 52 in psclient.cfg, found in your install folder:
Code: [Select]
;Sound renderer
System.Plugins.iSndSysRenderer = crystalspace.sndsys.renderer.openal

Change that to this:
Code: [Select]
;Sound renderer
;System.Plugins.iSndSysRenderer = crystalspace.sndsys.renderer.openal
System.PlugIns.iSndSysRenderer = crystalspace.sndsys.renderer.software

The semicolon comments out Line 53, and then a new line is added below it.

This corrected the problem for my WinXP and SigmaTel Audio

       I'm not sure how to go about that. I don't have any folders that I'm aware called my install folder, and the only place with planeshift related files doesn't have the one he's talking about.

If you have installed to the default location the file you are looking for is here :

C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Steel Blue\psclient.cfg

Else search for psclient.cfg

       Don't know why but it wasn't there, all the other planeshift files where though. I ended up searching and found it though, so thanks for you help, sorry for being such a noob at this computer stuff.

You can try it but I can't promise anything.
