Title: You Awaken in Ojaveda (Poster-Driven Story)
Post by: Skrein on November 22, 2009, 01:55:55 am
You are a human and your name is Tednugent. You feel this is an exceptionally clever and original name, but nobody seems to like you. You have a groffel for a pet, and his name is Scratchfever. You feel this is also an exceptionally clever and original name. However, nobody seems to get the joke.

You do not remember how you came to be logged out in Ojaveda, but the place looks deserted. There are no NPCs in sight and there are no players shouting out asking for iron ore for that one certain quest. You know the one.

Scratchfever seems agitated. This is probably because you've kept him out for a long time and your Empathy isn't high enough for him to stay too long. However, he is the only form of life around you, and he keeps tugging at your pantleg with his beak as if he wants something. Perhaps you can make him stay.

To the north is Th' Broken Door.
To the south is that long road that you can never seem to remember how to traverse.
To the east is the trade district where many rogues yield weapons for your training funds.
To the west is Trasok's shop, where people are usually hammering things.

Go north?

You go north to Th' Broken Door. Upon entering the room, you see many tables with empty chairs. Sadly, there's no life in sight. Even Brado, who is normally sitting behind the bar devising ways to build an unbreakable door, is gone. There are many dirty plates and mugs sitting on the bar, as well as the tables, and the chairs are pulled out as if the room was packed, and suddenly everyone jumped right out of their seats and vanished. Literally. One chair is laying on its back, no one having picked it up and put it back in its proper position, pushed in under the table.

There's a shiny on the bar.

In front of you is the bar.
Behind you is the door back outside.
To your right is the staircase.
To your left is a staircase leading downstairs, where you particularly remember owning rats when you first started playing because Brado can't seem to keep his tavern clean to save his life.

Upon examining the shiny, you find that it's a gold coin, probably left as a tip for Brado.

Scratchfever continues to peck at your leg and Sadface.

You consider taking the gold coin. The shinyness is tempting, taunting, luring you over like those FINE FINE ELF WOMENZ. You reach out your hand, slowly, savoring the first moment of your life where you would steal something that belongs to someone else. Finally, your fingers touch the gold, and you stuff it in your pocket only to find that a few of your possessions are missing.

~Inventory~

1 gold coin
Battle Axe
Short Sword
Rat Eye
Rotten meat (x4)
Red Liquor Mug

~~

Scratchfever looks at you disapprovingly.

Behind you is the door out of the tavern
In front of you is the door to the kitchen
To your left is the stairway downstairs
To your right is the stairway upstairs

You go down the stairs and find that even the rats from the olden days are gone, but they certainly left plenty of their body parts, more than would be natural for two one-eyed rats. There are about four rat eyes on the ground, as well as a tail, a fur, and strangely, an apple.

Scratchfever walks up to the apple and stares at it. He looks back at you, and then the apple, and seems to be asking for permission.

Allow Scratchfever to take the apple

Having been neglected all this time, Scratchfever is happy to indulge in the succulent treat, and you find that it's easier to keep him out despite your somewhat-low Empathy level.

and throw out that rotten meat. that's disgusting.

You're not too sure how this meat got in your pocket to begin with. Upon pulling it out and throwing it to the floor, you feel a tingling sensation on your hand, and find that you have maggots crawling up your arm.

Your tummy rumbles and your mouth waters as you look upon the succulent little creatures making their way up your arm. You move your arm to your mouth, stick out your tongue, and take a big lick, catching as many maggots as you can in one go. They crawl and wriggle across your tongue, and you begin to chew. Crunch, crunch, crunch, the maggots go, many of them getting caught in your teeth and squirting out their juicy innards into your mouth before you swallow and let out a pleased sigh. Man, that was good!

Scratchfever looks at you in disgust.

Your breath wreaks!

While you're down here, you decide to search for hidden treasure! Walking up to one of the walls, you place both palms flat against it and feel around, pressing slightly, trying to find some sort of hidden compartment or lever. However, after a few minutes of doing this, you find that you've simply wasted your time, as there's nothing here.

Scratchfever facepalms at you.

Angered, you get a running start toward Scratchfever, and punt him into the wall with a speeding boot. He makes a thud and lands to the floor unconscious, and his physical body fades back into your ring. There can only be one survivor in this desolate town.

Now that nobody's watching, you can deal with this irritating itch you've had since you woke up. Taking one last glance behind you at the stairway, reassuring yourself that no one is watching, you take your finger and slither it deep into your nostril, finding the treasure you've been searching for and wiping it across the wall.

Upon entering the kitchen, you find a very disturbing sight. After having wondered since you first walked into Th' Broken Door where Brado could have wandered off to, you find that his various body parts are hanging from meat hooks scattered across the room. There are many crudely-drawn pictures of Brado hanging on the walls around you, with various designs from hearts to lips bordering them in an over-obsessed, fan-like way.

There is a barrel to your left
Brado's head is hanging from a hook on your right
In front of you is a piece of paper with something written on it
Behind you is the door back to the main room

You squint to try and make out the scrabble marked on the paper. You find that the words are written in blood, and they look a little distorted, as though they were written by a furry finger. Finally being able to make out the words, you read, "LOVE ME!", and find that this is all the fantasy of a crazy cook. You decide to tear the paper off the wall and take it with you.

You lean in close, looking Brado eye-to-eye. This is the most romantic moment of your life. Leaning in closer, you press your lips against his, finally having that long-desired kiss you'd been waiting for since you were a little boy in school!

You blow hard, hoping that whatever is in his mouth will shoot out his neck, but to no avail.

Drawing out the last few seconds of your kiss, you finally decide to quit fulfilling your fantasy and look inside his mouth to see if you can get a better view of what's in there. You squint and open his mouth as far as it'll go with your hands while the hook sticking through his head, but the lighting of the room isn't bright enough to see what it is.

With both eyes sealed shut, you reach out your hand and stick it in his mouth. You can definitely make out that your hand is covered in saliva and blood, and after a few seconds, your fingers grasp around what you were looking for. It feels like it's coated in the same saliva and blood, and it's a little squishy. It seems to be stuck.

As you are trying to figure out what is lodged in there, you hear loud noises coming form outside.  You hear shouting and many clicks and bangs from what you assume to be armor and weapons.  As you stand there wondering what might be going on, you soon find out, as a militia of armed guards rush into the room and find you standing there with your hand inside a disembodied head.

With a little tugging and pulling, you end up hearing a rip and the sound of churning saliva, and you pull your hand out to find that you're holding a slimy, pink, pointed object.

It's Brado's tongue.

Letting out a girly shriek, you stuff the tongue back in his mouth and run over to the barrel. Before you can even begin inspecting it, you have to lift off the lid and upchuck your digested maggots into it due to the disgusting incidents that have befallen you since waking up. You then look into the barrel and see water mixed with vomit, and you decide it's best to move elsewhere.

In front of you is the door outside
To your left is the stairway upstairs

Simply -having- to explore every inch of this place, you then decide to walk up the stairs. With each step, the wooden boards comprising said stairway creak, and you notice that they're stained red with blood, though it looks like someone tried to clean it up at one point in time. Shrugging it off, because you've already seen a disembodied head hanging from a hook and watched in agony as your companion fell limp to the ground after you yourself kicked it into a wall, you continue up the stairs and reach the room above, where everything looks exactly the same as downstairs. Chairs pulled out from under the tables, drinks and food lining the tables, no one in sight.

Behind you is the stairway
In front of you is the balcony
To your left are the tables

You walk outside and see something you hadn't noticed before when there were buildings clouding your view. A certain distance away from where you're standing, part of Ojaveda is completely gone. I mean, gone. There's no fog, nothing obscuring your vision. It's gone. Where Toda's shop ends, it's as though there's a complete end of reality and a large, empty darkness standing where Ojaveda would normally be.

Go back in and examine the area where the tables are

Walking back into the building, you look at the tables to your right. You find that there are various mugs, some empty and some full of exotic drinks, and a few plates of food. One of the tables has something carved into it. Looking closer, you find that it's a carving of a picture of a heart and Brado's name.

Right next to the carving is a mug that you randomly decide to pick up and chug. You find the alcohol beverage refreshing, and it washes away the taste of maggots, dead-man's breath, and your vomit.

Upon leaving the building, your vision becomes blurry, and you begin to stagger. It seems a drug was slipped into the drink!

You fall forward, unconscious.

You awaken in the same location. Nothing seems to have changed around you except for the time of day - it's nighttime now, and when you stand up, you feel a little lighter.
