Greetings everyone.
Here are few simple ballpoint pen scribbles I would like to share, nothing special. The previews are linked to the full size images.

Those are scribbles!? :o What is the good quality work then??

Definitely not at all the housewife.
-
Very nice work Boni :) The ulber looks much more fearsome now. XD
-
OMG theya re awsome boni!

I have been messing around with one of the scribbles posted here using the Gimp. I am not quite happy with the result, but doubt it will get any better. Anyways, it was my very first attempt to give a simple ballpoint pen sketch a digital polish up, and it was indeed loads of fun to experiment with those strongly saturated colors. The picture is linked in the leading post of this thread.
-
Slightly reminds me on the "poisoned" effect of weapons in "Loki".
Remember that such glows will not only appear outside the object, but also on it. Partially covering the border of it.
-
That's so cool looking! I love the glowing effect. :D
-
I'd be scared to date her. :-\
Super scribbles sista'!
-
Time for an update. Again, I felt like messing around with the Gimp. The result of this experiment is found at the top of this thread.
-
"Not afraid of big animals" (Keine Angst vor großen Tieren) ;D

I like the art and shading put into play here. Only problems I have are that the female character seems a bit out of proportion, and in the hunting scene the ulbernaut is in a really awkward and goofy pose, while the female alltogether seems like she was copy/pasted in there from a different drawing where she's finishing running a marathon and the prize was an axe and a ginormous sword; the weapons aren't poised in a very effective manner. Her eyes need to be interlocked with the eyes of the ulber: both are scoping out their prey, going in for the kill. It would give the scene a whole lot of a more "active" feeling. Right now, I just see a girl with her arms thrust back about to be bear-hugged by an ulbernaut. If she was leaning into the kill with the weapons swung back, it would look less like she's trying to bang heads with it and more like she wants to cut the head off, which I'm sure is her REAL intention.
Otherwise, your talent is very evident. The amount of detail in the pictures is astounding. Though I would be careful: some of those lines tend to look less like Ulber fur or armor, and more like random scribbles to fill in negative space. Although, considering you're using Gimp, that's understandable, and I forgive. Gimp is tough to work with.

When the Community Art Contest (http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=40445.0) caught my attention, I could not resist to contribute one of my lazy ball pen scribbles, the first of the ones below. Now I think it is fair to put some more of the older ones here, in case they are interesting for anyone. Also a good opportunity to test http://psps.psde.de/... yes, looks useful, especially for lazy people like me :)

I like it! Dwarven warrior has a bit of a Chinese touch, but looks very serious :) Char with two daggers is awesome too.
-
::| Impressive. You capture movement very well, which is a rather difficult thing to do. Well done \\o//
-
It takes so much skill to be able to draw with pen. Wonderful, Boni!
-
Very, very nice.
-
impressive.
I live the ulbernaut if it is one
-
:D "Hammer Time!" -- That picture will give you a honorary position in the Way of the Hammer...
-
I'm glad to read some of you enjoyed the latest scribbles, so it was not wrong to post them here.
Technically, I don't really have talent for such things, but I had my fun bringing to paper whatever came to my mind.
About ball pens... well, it happens easily that you mess things up as you cannot really correct the contour, but I like the contrast and ease of use.
The ulbie scribble indeed refers to an ulbernaut... the time it was drawn vilenauts or maulbers were only seen when spawned by a GM.
And I'm glad the "hammer time" scene is appreciated, despite its technical flaws. Krähenschnabel ftw ;)
If I had to pick a favorite of these, it would probably be the small Enkidukai portrait (it's actually not much bigger than a stamp), as it is one of the rare cases where I managed to capture a facial expression the way I want it to look like. If you like, you can guess which character came to my mind there - a fierce fellow, feared and respected by many.
-
I just wonder how this aged Klyros was named who uses a staff and often meets Oele ... but I believe your portrait could match his description.
The feet of the "Blade Dancer" appear a bit small to me. But the pose in general, and the facial expressions specifically, make up for that small flaw easily.

You mean Fuusan?
I like your pictures Boni
-
Fuusan ... probably, well possible.
-
Yet another random scribble involving an ulbie and a hammer...

I am not certain about the crest on the hammer, but I am certain that Einnol Feldorm would have told about his hunts in the same way. May he travel happily with Arka Garam.
-
Epic picture, but how practical such size of the hammer is?-)
-
Nice sketch, Boni. Interesting bracers you've put on the hunter...
-
It has been a while since I posted something here, but Tessra's latest portrait (http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=37958.msg462215#msg462215) was sort of inspiring. Usually I don't like much drawing a close up of a face, because it is so easily messed up in a hasty ballpen scribble ;)

The leading post was cleaned up a bit.

Bonifarzia is as skilled and deadly with that pen as she is with her blades in the arena \\o//
Rheos salutes the mighty artist.
-
Very nais! I'm always paranoid about drawing with a pen. No eraser. :o
-
Thanks, Rheos.
Maybe I should add a few words about the scribble. My main interest was to capture this particular expression you sometimes see in the face - or mainly in the eyes - of a cat that is chasing its prey. For Boni it is sort of the same hunting fever with ulbers, neoten or other beasts taller and heavier than herself. And this facial expression really suffers from downscaling, so I recommend taking a look at the linked scan.
-
Lovely, Boni! I greatly admire how you work with pen. It's an utterly terrifying prospect to me, as like Mari says... no eraser. But you do such a wonderful job with it!! \\o//
-
Very nice one, Boni. :)
-
I could not resist to tinker with the last scribble using the gimp.
Yeah, I know, I should leave that kind of art to people who have talent for it (good example: Dannae (http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=39367)), but it was kind of fun to experiment.

For those of you who are interested in the major steps of colorization, I made an animated gif. (Sorry LigH, the preview is totally wrecked ;D)

To add some more useless information: The ballpoint pen scribble took about 15 minutes for a sketch and another 20 for some details. Coloring frames one to 15 took maybe half an hour. The last frame, which contains the details, took almost an hour, heck, I won't try again such a thing without a tablet pen.
-
She's amazing Boni. Really, she is. I love how the coloration fades out and how the details in the shading are just lovely. (i know, such technical terms >.< )
-
No surprise Ulbernauts flee in panic at this sight... ;D
-
Lovely Boni and well worth your efforts! I always love to see others interpretations of characters here no matter how well or even badly drawn. The goal should be to enjoy the process as much as the results. O--) O--) O--)
I almost feel spoiled using a cintiq tablet when I hear of others who have to push a mouse around to draw or paint. I admit it though, I definitely AM spoiled!
...TY for the nod too!
-
Thanks for all the feedback (for which "technical" terms are appreciated, too).
I agree that the process of drawing should be fun, it can be a good stress relief, actually. Sometimes a simple scribble can capture a scenery, emotions, or dynamics quite well, so it is always interesting to browse the fan art area.

I can't help it, but it's time for a double post.
You see a strong Rivnak named Mueffel Bueffel. The lovely odor of ripe duppong fruits spreads from its muzzle as the proud and gracious creature watches your every movement with vigilant eyes.
(http://psps.psde.de/images/MueffelBueffel.thumbnail.png) (http://psps.psde.de/images/MueffelBueffel.png) ;D

Ah, that's why I hear a belling like from a deer when I pass the Ulbernaut herd...
