Title: Samething everyone's saying. 0.5 problem :O
Post by: Dralion1221 on December 10, 2009, 07:05:29 pm
Alright so I already had 0.5 downloaded right? So I update the client just in case and whaddya know? The client fails to open :(

So I redownloaded the the folder, replaced all those files with the fixing .zip and nothing works :(

I switched the privacy options on the PSlaunch to "read and write only" and the client still said I had to restart as an admin :(

So it seems 0.5 laanx hates me and I'll have to wait. But if someone knows what to do let me know

Dral wonders what to do without playing Planeshift a little

Cheers
Dral

try setting read&write permissions for all to the PS folder and all files in it. (I had to still launch pslaunch as admin a few times, but now it doesn't complain anymore)

The Mac OSX download was bugged I'm afraid, we're publishing a fixed one asap.

As said above click on the Planeshift folder and then use get Info to change the permissions to read and write. Then click the gear icon at the bottom of the get info window to apply the change to everything in the folder.  I have only used the launcher app to get updates and to play with some settings. As a Mac user I've never been able to launch the client from the launcher. I always just double click on the client app directly, sometimes multi times before it finally launches.

Did as you said. Updater worked, but client still did not open. Probably is what Xordan said, client is bugged.

I have never gotten the game to launch via the launcher. I just double click on the game app directly and sometimes it take multi tries before it works. My record is 10 tries before it finally launched.

Please put your OS X version whenever you get a crash. This will help us get the fix out much faster.

Mac OSX 10.5

Still means it's  bug if you have to do it multiple times and I've been using the client (launcher always freezes O.o) Besides, I'm not that desperate to play Planeshift that I'm willing to click 'relaunch' several times before opening it (probably wouldn't get that far anyway until it would likely crash XD)

All things considered it is fairly playable. Of course problems are being found and worked on ( like crashing going up the steps at BD) but once you get in it normally doesn't just crash.

I believe that is /not/ for the Mac 10.5 you have to do as Sarva says with the 'read and write' permissions.

Well no it's just strange that it worked while it was on the Ezp server but once it shifted to Laanx it stopped working.

Anybody got any ideas on whether this has been fixed?

I don't want to keep downloading it and getting the same non-result.

Wasn't sure where the notice would come up that there's a new non-bugged mac download version.

thanks very much.  :whistling:

UPDATE: Okay so I redownloaded 0.5 from the new link. I did another update and managed to get in game (though a lot of lag, and still pretty laggy when I lowered some of the graphics) Though sometimes it will do one of three things when I click the client

~Will quit unexpectedly immediately

~Will get to the loading screen then quit unexpectedly

~Will get into the game maybe for about 5 minutes then it'll freeze and I'll have to force quit

If I get the 1st one I usually have to relaunch a couple of times but then the next two would happen.

Still, another step to solving my problems! :)

So, I got it to run on my mac (running 10.4.11) for a while (at least an hour, then I had to leave)...
How I got it to run:
Run pslaunch.app
Let it update if necessary
Push "Play"
Immediately load psclient.app (once I waited a bit, and it didn't work, it gave the same error everyone else was getting)

But... after coming back after I logged out, the next time I tried to load... something weird happened... (excuse my horrendous descriptions)
When I push "Play" in the launcher, the app closes like it should (removed from dock, as well as running applications), but the image remains displayed (without anything being clickable), and it won't let me load it again. and psclient fails to open as well... the only way to try again is to restart my computer.
Once, this same odd phenomena occurred with Safari also. (the page I was on even logged me out and refreshed, but I couldn't open/close safari, or force quit it...)

Sorry if this is of no help whatsoever, but try that sequence at the beginning and see if it lets you in.

Not too sound like a total loser... but, could somebody put a step-by-step of exactly what they did to get it to work?

Because I keep restarting the client, etc., basically doing everything that has been posted here, but it seems to be yanking me around. Essentially a little help for a doofus would be great.

Thanks  :)

Well mines not...completely working. I've gotten in twice but the things in my last post to this topic happen.

So there really isn't a 'working' method at the moment Dahoma. But basically you use the new link to the mac client to download it. Run the updater (once or twice will do perhaps) then you might have to click the client a few times. Expect unexpected crashes. I have gotten in the game around 5 minutes before it froze :/

Oh well, guess that is to be expected for a beta client.
Title: I don't get why it has always worked for me and not everyone else???
Post by: Dannae on December 15, 2009, 08:25:03 pm
Well OK, there is the trouble of having to relaunch the client several times before it runs, but I used to have to do the same with the old client. I've had to click the relaunch button as many as 20 times, but that takes less than 10 seconds. Once in, no major problems, a few laggy areas and maybe a crash once every 4 to 5 days, but again, same as old client.

I went on the ez server to look at things and have never re-downloaded the client. I have occasionally run the launch app update and repair to get any new changes. One thing I did do when 0.5 was still only on ez, was to set permissions for the entire PS folder to read/write so I could change the folder name since I still had a copy of the old ver. to use on Laanx.

I'm using a new iMac with 10.6.2 (RIP my 7 year old Mac that I just had to replace after a power supply went dead. I decided on new instead of trying to find old replacement parts)

Wish I could help with anyone still having trouble.

Since the update today I have been able to get the Client launched the first click every time ( like 6 times so far). The latest update might have solved the need to try multi times to launch the client. I'm on 10.6.2

Yes, today's update made ahuge difference for me - no multiple tries to get the client to launch.  I am on a Mac G5 running 10.4.11 .  I had removed all the old client files before installing this time but was still getting the same problems - pslauncher freezing but the graphic remaining and having to try 10 or more times to get psclient to launch.  When I did get in game, I was crashing at nearly every boundary, but after today's latest update, everything seemed to work pretty much as it should!  I should also mention that I unzipped all the zipped files in the art folder (was I supposed to do that?)  Anyway, I'm back in game and very appreciative of the people that worked on this.  Thanks PS team!  \\o//

UPDATE: Okay, I've manged to find a way to get in-game \O/

I have to hit the PSlaunch and update/repair before I go into the game. Or else it will get to that loading screen then quit, then quit again if I try relaunching.

By using the launch every time, I have managed to get in-game without any problems...yet...
