In every multiplayer game, noobs get picked on.. except one. Have you ever noticed that everyone doesn\'t make fun of babies for not knowing the rules or asking stupid questions?

And that\'s good... When I came to PlanShift world everyone was ready to help me. And more - they did! Now I\'m always ready to help any newbie that I walk into. Maybe it\'s a kind of feedback? Anyway it\'s nice... Greetings to all PLANESHIFT fans! :D

We\'ll see how helpfull you\'ll be after you\'ve helped your zillionth newbie.
It gets tedious having to type the same thing over and over when they can just as well read if from the site or player guide, thats what its there for.

I only start the game a few ago, and i had a warm welcome from the players too. In my first game with two friends of mine i thought that with the /group command i only speak to them, but it appear to be wrong :]
So for one hour, i had speak to my friends of various subjects and nobody flamed me althought i were flooding the chat ;)
Planeshift has a cool community of players for now, i hope this will not change. :]

Imho it can only improve atmosphere if you feel welcome in PlaneShift...8)
If you don\'t want to answer n00b questions anymore, just don\'t say anything...:D
And if some n00b flames about the crappy game, you just need to ask him/her why he/she doesn\'t contribute to improve it...;) (that usually helps)...
Edit: I\'ve removed what n00bs weren\'t supposed to read.
In my opinion that doesn\'t matter, since first of all those n00bs never read the forums or docus before joining the game and second if they come read it is improbable, that they read this thread....
If they\'d read the forums they wouldn\'t flame or insult others, I\'m sure...
But to not kill you all joy and due to all the indignation about I\'ve just censored myself...:D

well i don\'t know ...i\'m nice to noobies ...i was kindely introduced to PS from Ralin, and i promissed her that i\'ll help others too... well i\'d do that anyhow :]
about that telling the 10013002000th noob the same thing ...don\'t if you teach 10 noobies, and everyone of them teaches also 10 ...you\'ve already have 110 noobies that understand ...you don\'t have to do all the work ...it just gets done :)

yeah players on planeshift make a refreshing change from lets say players on Counter-strike who endlessly put down newbies. I think the helpful atmosphere in planeshift should be maintained as it is the reason I come back to play it again and again :)

I\'ve played Anarchy for a long time, and I only have promblems with noobs that act like they\'ve just bought their computer, people that need help with the most simple things generally tend to annoy me... It took me an afternoon to master the controlls of Anarchy and I made lvl 25 on the first day... games aren\'t that tough, so ppl PLZ try to figure out the problems and explore the world yourself just a LITTLE bit longer before asking a lot of STUPID questions...

I think flaming newbies is evil, but making fun of them (without mentioning the name) is right, because most the other newbies can also laugh about it.

on a local chanel there was a topic: \"If you want an OP status, then press alt-F4\" ....well i played along in pressed alt+F4 for several times on my linux/B.i.t.c.h.X and it just let me where i am (i was using the 4th tty :D) ...well, after that they still didn\'t want to give me an op :P ...but, i was probably the only one on the chanel that didn\'t drop out because of that alt+f4 thing :]

In my entire time at these forums I have never seen a newbie who was asking a valid question that pertained to the game get flamed. Never. The newbies that get flamed are the ones asking stupid questions or the ones too lazy to find the answer themselves. we answer the same stupid questions a million times, why not spend five minutes and just go to find it? Newbies don\'t get flamed, idiots do.

EQ 2
WOW
Shadowbane
Star Wars
and so on.
BUT PS IS FREE AND thats the advantage.

I dont think that the graphics will fall behind. Crystalspace is free source, so that means that the engine will continue to evolve, which you cant say about EQ 2 or SW: Galaxies.

NO! Crystal Space will soon (1-2 months) have a new OpenGL renderer, that is already in development for a long time. It will feature full dynamic stencil shadows (that Doom 3 will have), specular lighting, bump maps, etc - more accurately: shaders. Everything will be possible through shaders.
So CS will soon be even better than UT2003, you just have to wait a bit.
Oh, forgot to mention: it is open-source!!!

elminster, thats not exactly what the project manager at crystal space said, and he said ut2k wont be FAR beyond crystal space... and its not the same technique used in doom3, doom3 is far beyond dynamic lighting that any games will have for awhile, you really expect a little open source project to surpass it?? full dynamic lighting isnt even somthing new, or somthing to get exicted over.
besides this, shadows are extremly heavy to run, and considering how planeshift runs right now, i dont know how well that would turn out

and it already has a crappy bump map applied, and i dought it will have specular lighting.......

As the project manager of Crystal Space I have to object to this. How do you know what Crystal Space will be able to do in the future? We are currently working on a new advanced OpenGL renderer which will do full dynamic lighting (similar techniques as used in Doom3), full shader and vertex program support and much more. I don\'t think that after this is done you can really say that ut2k3 will still be far beyond Crystal Space.
cs is an open source, and im assuming free project, and has at least half the features of the if you really think its going to look better than ut2k in 2 months i dont know what else to say

PS is no where near finished and a release date has never been announced. The game right now is in it\'s infancy and the graphics and game play are going to change a lot. The game has yet to enter beta.

Well, yes, CS has an ASCII-ART \"canvas\". The canvas is responsible for low-level graphics output. The most often used canvas is the openglwin (glwin32.dll) and the openglx (gl3d.so) canvas. The ascii-art canvas uses the aa-library (http://aa-project.sf.net), just like the opengl canvas uses the Open Graphics Library (OpenGL) :)

Time will show.
But let me explain myself, it\'s not about the money, it\'s about getting the best game makers. I personally don\'t know how it works in the game developing world, but I think that money is important to developers. I also don\'t know how talanted the PS game creators are.
P.S. I don\'t know about the future, but right now if you look at screen shots and trailers of all of those games I listed they are better looking than current PS. I hope that PS will be better or same level though.

You are wrong. Actually, money is important for everyone :)
But much money != good program (!= means \"not equals\")
Look at Windows: much money, shitty program.
Linux: no money (Debian for example): excellent software.
No wonder, why viruses are ONLY very common on Windows, and not under Linux... :)

As it was said by me at least 5 time :)

Many things will be possible through shaders. This new renderer is already under development for a long time, it is just not ready. It will be in 2-3 months (the devs at CS say).
It will look way better than now.
Anyway, visual quality often depends much more on the skills of the modelers, not the engine...

I prefer \'new people\' or \'low levels\' or in RO \'novices\' :P
The way it works is... you help the new people and be nice, you chat too much so you lvl slow, they level faster than you and help you out lots with items and hugs and stuff because they remember how cool you were ;)
I prefer bashing \'l337\' people... it\'s funnier and more interesting =3

but by being jerks they automatically bring down the whole n00b-society, and now when you see a newbie after such a traumatising experience you immediatly link that person with the evil-n00b-from-hell you just met. And so the general image of the newbie-society has been set by a few anti social newbs.

How to stop that I am not sure but I?m sure we might think of something :-)?in fact I have?limiting what a newbie can say until they reach a certain point :-)?but we?ll have to figure out what point exactly.

that is some messed up stuff, (if you can\'t deal with it, why play, create game in first place?)

I\'ve heard exactly the same things about a million times in both AO and NWN... n00bs that act like n00bs should just be thrown off a cliff... or something just as painful... :D
