Title: .5 Xp issues

Ok so I tried running on ubuntu 9.10 and that epically failed so now I have tried windows xp..

After fighting with my audio and my display I have updated drivers..

I can not find the "update" icon or even file for planeshift, I dont know if im supposed to down load it seperatly or what and also I cant even get planeshift running.

I click on the icon and a black screen flashes and then nothing.  I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I have been trying to get planeshift running for over 12 hours now with no luck

Hello

Best thing you can do is to open a command line and then cd to the planeshift installation directory to run then pslaunch.exe  and/or psclient.exe. After that post the output that these commands give to the console.

pslaunch.exe should work, Strange that you get no crash and that it just closes, try going to http://webchat.freenode.net/ and asking for help  :detective:

Strange for me also, if i use other than 4:3 ratio and higher resolutions it crashes.

Mod.: after i changed quality setting from medium to highest is does nt crash at other aspect ratios and resolutions.

i downloaded the latest client for Win 32 bit systems from  this links http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=36427.0  
and when i try to run PS with windoze XP i simply get the message " This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem " so i uninstalled the 0.5 and 0.4 and reinstalled and still the same error message .

I did a cmd in run and tried to execute PS through command i got this error " The system cannot execute the specified program "
can someone plz help  :'(  i love PS and i really appreciate what the dev team is doing for us and i understand it is a crazy past few days for the dev team with all the changes being made to PS and all but i really need my PS fix ( i'm a PS holic :))

It says here in System Properties i got Microsoft Windoze XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2
I got a duel boot with Ubuntu and can try downloading the Bin for linux OS But i live in South Africa and we got monthly caps on our interwebs so i don't want to download to much else i'm bugered for the rest of the month

Hehe thanks botanic i got the c++ executable thingy and i installed it ( i miss looked it )
now i get the Acces violation error i'm gona check into that now from this post http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=36455.0  
hopefully i get it running then :)

Uhm heh  
So i got the c++ update and installed it and on the http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=36455.0 post it says the acces violation only happes thrice and then you should be playing but my pc just gave me a black screen and then nothin and no matter how many times i try when i get the black screen it never runs PS

so i checked my error log and it says " Failed to load skin /this/art/skins/default! " i know this is an old issue and i know you change the default skin to elves so i access the psclient.cfg file with notepad and changed " Planeshift.GUI.Skin.Dir = /this/art/skins/ " to " Planeshift.GUI.Skin.Dir = /this/art/skins/elves " i don't think my changes are correct? because now i get this in my error log " Failed to load skin /this/art/skins/elvesdefault! "

please help

you don't have to change the skin dir but the skin PlaneShift.GUI.Skin.Selected = elves

Hello

Either change it also in %APPDATA%\PlaneShift\planeshift.cfg or simply delete that Planeshift directory (be aware though that screenshots and logs are there, too)

I figured it out , i had to go in pslaunch and change the setting in the general settings option , there was no current skin selected so i selected the only skin available at the moment which is elves and Whooala Bob is my uncle  :D

now i just need to check the sound and i'm off , thanks for the help anyhow guys :)

oh sorry elves.zip anyway.
in any case remember that the planeshift.cfg has precedence over psclient.cfg so when doing changes for example of skin you have to do them there. or use pslaunch
