Title: openSuse 11.2 x64 - startup problem
Post by: confused on January 25, 2010, 03:33:05 pm
PS: all other applications making use of sound works.

After ending up with the first error:

Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-close.c: 731: _dl_close: Assertion `map->l_init_called' failed!

I came across another topic about the error. Following the advice of murdering the PS libvorbis library, I managed to get further in starting PS. :) But only to a black window. :(

Clicking on the X button of window (only title bar, no mouse pointer, area is completely black in colour), I get the additional:

Code: [Select]
DEBUG: Closing OpenAL sound system
DEBUG: Closing OpenAL sound system
Segmentation fault

What is happening?

Okay, I downloaded 5.1 after I realized there was a new version.

Yet, nothing else changed beside not generating a segmentation fault on clicking the X button.

The window remains black, with mouse pointing disappearing when mouse moves over black area.

Trying ./psclient causes the session to logout, though before logging out is displays the usual information in the console.

Please help. Really want to get back into PS.  :'(

You could try ./pslaunch --console --repair

Just finished with the ./pslaunch --console --repair

No more updates available. Still the same black window.

I even checked that other 3D games do work.

5.0 worked with a few crashes before update to 5.1. Since server update, only get black window.

What graphic card do you have? Does it support 3D rendering?
Code: [Select]
NOTIFY: OpenGL renderer: Software Rasterizer (vendor: Mesa Project) version 1.4 (2.1 Mesa 7.6)
This means that PS wasn't able use your graphic card for the 3D rendering.

Hardware the same as before. Only decent stuff used in my machine.

nVidia GeForce 9600 GT with 2 monitors attached, and 3D acceleration enabled by default.

check that you don't have and are using nouveau because if you have that renderer it means you don't have 3d accelleration

Checked package installations, "nouveau" yielded "No result.".

I see there is another thread with similar or same issue

how did you install the video card drivers? from which source? did you install from repo and then use your own kernel? did you install the 32bit planeshift and you didn't install 32bit libraries?

Weltall, thanx for your help.

It was the nVidia driver that did not install properly that caused the problem. I reinstalled it and I can enter PS once more.

PS: PS is much more stable now. No crashes on startup!  \\o//
