Hey, I've got the game up and running. I'm on a 64 bit Ubuntu 9.10.
But when I log into the server and try to create a new character, when I click on a race (any race) it doesn't load the 3-d model, gives me no error and my mouse moves under the application and I can't bring it back to the forefront to click on anything else. I have to force quit the application to close it.
I was wondering if this is a common error or not. I've redownloaded and reinstalled the game twice now and I keep running into the same problem.
Thanks.

just some common,, facts?, for ya
modles take forever to load so waiting a while works ;\
if the screen stops responding, for me clicking a bunch of times and then waiting makes it go back to loading
so that works now and then
hope this helps a little

I have the same problem as above. On Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala with an Intel Mobile GM965/GL960 card.
I load the game, get into the character creation screen and every race says the model is not available and the mouse disappears (I can see it at the edges so it's just not rendering it in the game window for some reason).
At the load screen (with the picture of the wizards in the library or something) it give these errors
crystalspace.pluginmgr.loadplugin:
could not load plugin 'crystalspace.sndsys.renderer.null'
crystalspace.maploader.parse.image:
could not open image file 'lib/std/shadow_noise.png' on VFS!
crystalspace.syntax.shadervariable:
Texture '/lib/std/shadow_noise.png' not found.
[node: shadervars,shadervar(name=tex shadow noise)]
crystalspace.engine.warning:
default shader /shader/std_lighting.xml not available
default shader /shader/std_lighting_portal.xml not available
Then when the create character screen loads no matter which race I choose it says the model is not loaded and the cursor disappears and nothing else can be done but to close the game.

I have the same problem using the 64bit version on an Intel based machine.
I'm going to try running the x86 and see if that helps...

Hi,
did you try switching the windows (activating another window and then back to the ps one)? Im just curious if that helps already.

Just purchased a new desktop and installed PS and it's working fine. It did the same thing to begin with and then I updated my drivers and it worked fine under Windows. I'm thinking there migh tbe a problem with the Intel graphic drivers under Linux or maybe the card I was using was just not powerful enough to run the game.

I too have no mouse in the PS window on linux.
I am running Linux Mint 8 on a Macbook 4,1. (Mouse works if using Mac OS X on this machine, except there are other issues...)
My situation on linux occurs after logging in. I can enter the account/password and select a server, but once the Character Select screen comes up, I've no mouse action.
I will hunt down and post any information that might be useful, just need pointed in the right direction.
Thanks
[edit] hmmm...at work, and apparently not paying much attention...thought this thread was a bit newer...intel graphics seem to consistently be my issue...Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)...guess I will snoop drivers]
