Title: wagon and mount
Post by: Vakachehk on February 14, 2010, 01:43:15 am
having a Rivnak pull a wagon (I'm guessing a Rivnak Wagon) and to be able to travel with merchandise on the wagon, also maybe having verious wagons weather it be a covered wagon or maybe a transport wagon with seats or a courier wagon or maybe just a cart or what not, there would prob only be about 2-5 different styles for different characters.

What happens if you dismiss your mount? The wagon will just be left there? or will it disappear with the rivnak?

It should probably be equipped to the mount like you would equip a weapon and therefor would disappear with the mount, but if you where to set it on the ground (not equipped to the mount) it should look just like a normal wagon minus what ever was pulling it.

there could be merchant wagons and heavy wagons for hauling large amounts of items.

As for the flying mounts, perhaps a basket that hangs underneath the mount (like on a hot air balloon).

And while we are at it, how about saddle bags?

I`d definitely second (or `third` since Tontow double-posted ;) ) the vote for saddlebags.

As for a wagon, that too is an excellent idea.
The image of bandits riding down on their own drifters and rivnaks to attack a speeding merchant convoy of wagons, complete with defenders clinging on while trying to fend the raiders off...

Well i was thinking if you dissmiss your mount it will change a 3d look as the end where the rivnak gets tied on would touch the ground so it will be alot like the ones in ojaveda but a wagon and usable so it shouldnt be to hard to make, the main problem would be implementing a trot animation for a rivnak with a wagon rolling behind it.

Why can't it just use the full speed gallop like when the Rivnak walks or attacks? XD

I like the idea, the question is whether PlaneShift engine supports people standing on moving objects (for people standing on the cart).

Otherwise, it could also have designated mountable slots on the cart for extra riders/cargo perhaps, like a multiple user mount, if that would be easier to implement.

Nice idea though.

Well why dont you make it a PS cart/wagon where the rider sites on the rivnak? Well the gallop could do for now. You wont stand you'd sit of course or have seats, depends on what wagon/cart you want, but i guess they wouldnt make that meany.

What if you got rid of the cart and gave the rivnak the ability to have an inventory ?
Perhaps its total capacity (including rider) would be 1000 units of weight ?
In this case you could either ride it with an overloaded character or load it up with stuff and make it follow you.

In the second example a single player could tote up to 1300 units of weight max.

Well rigwyn what would be better wagon or inventory? Inventory is easier but wagon much better RP and gameplay. Yes you could imagin a wagon. And in that sence having players abile to do transport would be good on the player to player trade/economy/RP. Or in your way just stuff them into an inventory lol.

A wagon add-on that adds inventory is my vote. Would take a bit of work to implement I think.

not really: If i put a bag in my hand, everyone can see that I have a bag in my hand, and i can still open it to get at the items inside it, so all we really need is the ability to equip the mounts with the cart item and change a bag model to a cart.

As we already have some karts/wagons in the game already then all that needs to be done is to make the wheels turn when you move.

it shouldn't be as hard as making the mounts themselves. Also just to add to it, WoW don't have wagons so it would make PS stand out a lot more to a commercial game!

The gms have used carts in events but while there are models for them they are not functional. They moved by gm command and the wheels didn't rotate as the models are single units with no moving parts. This is not a new idea, and there have probably been several similar threads in the past. I'm certain it is planned someday.

@bilbous: You're wrong, the cart wheels on some of the carts in Akkaio are seperate. I looked through the zip myself back in 0.4

The hard thing will be physics. afaik there is no implementation of 'moving ground' type physics... I could be wrong. Pretty much this would be needed to have people stand free on the cart as it moves and not simply drop as it moves around the place. Having rider/crate slots to pin them in place there would be a faster workaround imo, but I'm no codemonkey.

You'd probably want a system where a cart-rider would mount the cart.  Otherwise, you'd need some serious hacking in order to get things to work remotely right (physics + MMO = pretty darn uncharted waters imo)

physics are increasingly being involved in MMOs as part of the next gen experience
