Yes I'm curious what is above the dome and what the surface of the planet is like. From what I've read so far we are living under a rock (pun intended). Will we ever get to see the surface of Yliakum?
-
Note that Yliakum refers to the cave the characters inhabit, not the planet itself.
Also note that it is a LOOOOOOOOOONG way up, with a labrynth of caves, and several times you get awful close to the crystal that shines into Yliakum. That's going by the info on how Laanx and Talad got to Yliakum.
-
You should just assume it is a barren, desolate place blasted by the light of a harsh sun, with air that would be unbreathable even were it not filled with choking dust. I do.
-
I always imagined it as a land of creatures that'd be giants to those in Yliakum...
-
I thought that at least part of the surface was a land called Dermoria. At least that`s what the species description says (IIRC).
-
According to a certain Enki's signature, it's overrated and the graphics suck XD
-
we have maybe 5% of the first level of Yliakum in game now, if not less, if you see the surface of Yliakum you'll be an old old person.
-
Or one of my grandkids.

Unfortunately you remember incorrectly :)

hmmm, time for a map editor to create the rest?
-
The surface is probably a scorched surface? Contemplating on the fact that the azure crystal is merely like a window to the surface and that filtered ray emitted could incinerate object at close proximity. One of the most famous cases is the one of Fertedian Dalko, Octarch of the 4th level, that was tied to a hypnotized Megaras and sent straight towards the Crystal. *poof*
-
could also be the crystal amplifies the sun rays like with a magnifying lens
-
So the surface must be pretty dim then?
Assuming that it take a focusing crystal to re-create sufficient ray intensity equivalent to that of a sun.
That is hell of a focusing crystal! =)
Assuming the surface is as bright as present Yliakum, wouldn't amplified rays be too unbearable?
Arguably it may not be a focusing crystal too?
An extract from Players Guide/Overview of the Known World. Crystal
The Crystal that brings light to Yliakum is an enormous raw stone of purest transparency and analogous to the sapphire that hangs from the roof of the stalactite's internal cave.
A pure transparent crystal?
It's kinda ambiguous.
-
Note also that the Crystal is MAGIC. Therefore, it doesn't necessarily amplify the light using typical optical physics, but could amplify it due to magical energy potential within...
-
i imagined it looked something like this

What are you people talking about there is no surface the universe is made from green cheese. If you dig your way up far enough no-one will ever go hungry again.
-
What if you dont like cheese? I dont.. will I starve?
-
Why another planet? Couldn't it be possible that Yliakum is below our earth's surface? There are a lot of similarities concerning flora and fauna. I imagine that earth's evolution and Yliakum's evolution once were separated and headed into different directions.
-

I'd argue that the interior of the earth is too hot for this to be true.
-
I'd argue that its a fantasy universe and Planet Earth doesn't exist
-
I'd just argue pointlessly.
-
This makes me wonder how hard a race that plopped down on the surface would have to work in order to get into the Labryinths.
*senses a big shock for all of Yliakum coming when they find out that hiding inside a hollowed out stalactite doesn't work as well as one thinks...*
