hi
could some one post general instructions for moving to the new server? i probably not the only one
I have tried to do the up dates but after the program exits. any help on getting to the new one?
Thanks

I'll start off by saying I don't know if the update ads any other new Info but you can get on the server by adding the following line to your server.xml file
<server name="Skylab" description="skylab" ip="109.168.124.3" port="7777" />
just add that line before the </serverlist> at the ned of the file.
This is all that I have done to get on the new server since I have seen people have had problems running the updater. If you don't have experience changing game files like the servers.xml file then you might want to wait for someone else to offer a solution.
-
do you think uninstalling ti and reinstalling it would work?
-
I don't think so. try to use the "repair" button from the launcher.
-
beware hoever sincethe repair button is kinda like skydiving, somtimes your parachute wont deploy, meaning it might downlowd 0.4.03 instead of the new server thing
happened to so many people so amny times

Having same problem as OP using updater. After following update prompt a download activates, then program exits without saving. Used Repair and succesfully downloaded and installed the new server.xml. Launcher continues to suggest available update.
Skylab is now showing as an available server alongside Expcusa, however it is constantly "Failed". Hoping this is just server down. If anyone can log into Skylab could you post here or PM me so I can try altering file as suggested above, or follow any new suggestions. Thankyou.

Skylab was down for a good while but it is back up now.
-
My self-update of pslaunch fails due to wrong MD5 sums (Win32).
-
As of 08.00 GMT can now log into Skylab. Launcher still shows an available update but closes without saving, or installing it after download. I used Repair from launcher to update the servers.xml succesfully as stated in my previous post.
-
I have a similar problem, in the login instance of the game the RP server appears like "Failed", i tried in PSlaunch pressing repair but it closes and a sign appears telling that the Launcher had a problem without repairing nothing.
It's not a update problem, i'm on the latest version. I tried to wait some days to see if it was only the server that was down, but it's not. I don't know what's happening.

new server must be rigged to keep certain people out :p

How do you do that?!

How do you do that?!
In any text editor (not word type editor), i.e. in Windows notepad or editor at F4 in Total Commander, in Linux vi, kate, editor at F4 in Midnight commander. Unfortunately I don't have Mac, so I can't tell equivalent in Mac OSX

Text edit on the Mac.

Download the new installer version 0.5.3 and install it - it contains a fixed pslaunch which will advance correctly to the update for the serverlist.xml and following updates.
-
I got a link from some one on webchat freenode from a GM. The link automatically downloaded Planeshift with the skylab server.
Does any one know of that link? I can't retrace it in my computer's history :S
-
http://www.planeshift.it/download.html -- here you can download the official installers currently in version 0.5.3; they contain a fixed updater.
Download. Install. Update. Be ready for SkyLab Host and EZPC-USA.
-
Or try download and replace just the pslaunch with the one designed for your OS from here (just the links to the files on the update server): http://sxc.own.cz/ps_updates.html (http://sxc.own.cz/ps_updates.html)

get you butt back in game >.>

You really should release an update that does not force people to edit the server.xml or to use repair.
Downloading ps by bittorrent is fast, but repair is damn slow.
Also, switch off the old server instead of letting it give a standing image. Because when I got that, my computer crashed, and I only later learned that it was mostly due to dust and faulty ram. I'll touch ps with a polestick now.

I did not need to "repair" after installing version 0.5.3 - the normal update worked well for me.
