if you have a slow connection.. hours. but it's slow on a fast connection too as it more or less downloads everything.
your best bet is to get the newest installer (0.5.3) and run the updates from that instead of using an older install and not be able to update.

Its depends on which server you connect to when you update. The last time I updated one of the servers was several times faster than the other.
Click update
Look at the name of the server you have connected too
Make a mental note of the time its taking for the progress bars to fill
Cancel the update midstream
Repeat the process above
See if the next server in the pool is faster :)
