Title: iPlaneShift
Post by: Vakachehk on May 16, 2010, 09:08:49 am
PlaneShift app on an iPod Touch or iPhone sounds like work but sounds like one of the best thing an MMORPG could have. I know that it would be very hard and that you would almost have to redo the whole skins and GUI, and some C++ work.
I have some ideas for how it could work, and I could show you some pictures I could come up with (to be added later).
please post your ideas and thoughts.

this probably wouldn't require many changes code-wise in CS, however it'd require a huge amount of work to be done on CS instead as embedded platforms only support OpenGL ES which is different from the OpenGL that's used right now.

You can do it right now. You need a remote desktop client for your remote device and the client running on the machine it is connected to. But the concept of managing a completely separate application in addition to the main PS client is unrealistic at this point in the project.

Also apple applications are written in Objective-c, so conversion would have to be made.

I-don't own an I-anything, and I-bet that most players don't own an I-pad, I-phone, but I-guess plenty have an I-touch, but could an I-touch handle PS?

I have an iPhone 3G, and know many PS players and devs who have an Apple mobile device, whether cellular phone or iPod Touch.

It has been proven before: http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=33170.msg382211#msg382211 (http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=33170.msg382211#msg382211)

that the iPhone can handle PS 0.4.03, which is fairly close to 0.5, and if it didn't work, using a 0.4.03 renderer or CS1.4 instead of 1.9 for rendering would make it work.

iPhone and iPod Touch are practically the same thing other than one has a Cell phone in it (which will not be needed for PS) and an iPad would just be better than both.

don't think most use them :P actually it's the inverse most devs don't have them. else the macosx port of ps would be less trouble.

I didn't say they dev for the iPhone OS, I said they have one. I've heard several devs say "I got to put that on my iPhone/Pod" or some other line which states they are in ownership of a device using iPhone OS. And not all devs are engine, sheesh. Owning a brick does not make you a builder.

I would love to have PS on my ipod, but there are some major things that would have to be worked out first. I think that once we hit v1 we can start thinking of ipod apps, but fist I say get the game done first.

That was a fake ;) I don't think any phone can handle PS, really. Perhaps in a few years with hardware getting better and Crystal Space becoming more efficient.

Actually, it is possible to make an Objective-C application which is almost entirely written in C or C++, because Objective-C supports mixing C dialects (with the restriction though, that one file may only contain one dialect)

Owning a brick does not make you a builder.
I hope you mean a brick (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brick) and not a brick (http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Brick)  ;)
