Hi fellow inhabitants of Yliakum!
We are working on revitalizing a bit the community with a recurring set of events, targeted at whoever likes to be in game with many players and have fun.
These events are not GM driven, apart from some initial setup. We expect the players to organize themselves and to bring the event to life!
This page is under construction, so don't expect it to be completed. At this point we want to present to you the idea, and get feedback on the events we may add to the calendar, and their content.
http://www.planeshift.it/events.php
The next event is the Festival of all races! In about 3 days from now. You can click on it to see the description. The page has a countdown which helps you to join the game at the right time. We are thinking anyway to have those events last at least one or two days, to allow everyone to experience it (based on his timezone).
-
This is could be really big. Now we have some set dates for stuff. Eventually the events will have description pages like this one (http://www.planeshift.it/event4.html). All we will have to do is show up and celebrate! \\o// So, plan on bringing something to share in 3 days: food, drink, a good story, etc... ;) We can have a great big party. I'm thinking Tel should ramp up her alcohol production for these days. Hmm...
-
Can the in-game date also be displayed upon the page? So we know what seasons these things correspond to. It's nice to get a main-site list for this.
-
wuuundaarful! (i had to type it like that)
does this mean time is actually passing in yliakum? or is it theoretical time?
-
@Sarras: Good question.
I think that some of the events will be fun, and as a player I'll get a kick out of seeing how some characters will respond to the subject of the events. The time thing is a bit confusing, but I'm an idiot, so I don't understand GM time. Hopefully we'll have people that can bring these great events to life. I would love to contribute, in which, I'll get in game. :D
-
A nice initiative to help revitalise the community.

 Inventing holidays is one way to raise the number of player-based events.
 Forgetting the OSfP is one way to lower the number of player-based events.
-
@LigH: the RCO is no longer in business afaik, and so there is only the Explorer's Outpost events. I think this page is meant to be more of a calendar of festivals more than anything and so the OSP events aren't really... fitting of the page.
-
@Akkaido actually the RCO is on it's way back, can't say more atm as i'm not in charge and don't really have much connection to it atm but i know it's on it's way back.
/me give's a thumbs up to the revitalizing project

If the title was just "Calendar events", then I would agree to limiting myself to this topic.
But "Recurring events (by players)" are a bit more general topic. And OSfP members gave the promise to regularly host events, so their circumstances are probably covered by this topic too...
There may be different points of view why the RCO is currently not active. Technical issues regarding the 3D engine are only one factor; they tried to fulfill their part of the contract by using other locations.
Nevertheless - if supporting player-based events to raise the amount of roleplaying is the reason behind this thread, then using already available organisatorial structures should not be missed.
-
Will be good to have more information of those existing events and organizations, so we can somehow integrate those into the calendar. Can you describe or link those in here?

Spotted a typo on the Feast of Unity information page.
People travel from all levels to meet and share in the giant feast in Hydlaa. This is an opportunity for cooks to show their skills, entertainers to perform to a crowd and merchants to sell their wears. A dining area is set up near the Laanx temple and market stalls pop up all over Hydlaa. After the feast itself people set up their stalls or try to attract a crowd with entertainment and story telling. But whatever people decide to do, they are all their for the same reason, community. Over the years this celebration has become one that brings enemies together as friends, a day that people leave behind their quibbles with others and conflict is left outside the gates.
"Wares"?

Must be a clothing stall :P

Ask Dajoji about the OSfP for more details on top of:

[Event Q&A Thread] The Octarchal Society for Progress (http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=34556.0)
Just a brief summary: The Octarchy started a contest and promised the winners special support provided that they will organise regularly events.
The winners have been:
1) Explorers (reward: Outpost at the Lake of Tears, road to Bronze Doors)
2) Red Crystal Organisation (reward: Red Crystal Den, a vaudeville at the Octarchs Way - the road from plaza to iron tower)
Not winners, but with a special contract with Jayose, the Knowledge Seekers have been reviewing player-submitted literature to be published in the extension of Jayose's library.
A contract is an agreement between two parties.

Furthermore, you should know at least about the pure existance of an organisation which feels responsible for running the "Stonehead tavern" in Gugrontid and was granted sponsoring of free food by the Gugrontid vigesimi.

 Inventing holidays is one way to raise the number of player-based events.
i think the best way to start holidays, is to start off with a celebration that only your guild does, on the same day each month\year ect...
eventually it would branch and the whole allience participates, and eventually more and more of the community starts celebrating and it can become a holiday :)
i think thats how things like easter and X-mas got started ;D
-
Anything people remember as a symbol may become a holiday of some kind. Disasters, spectacles, old wars, ridiculously awesome people, or decent ideas.

To answer the question of time is still not an easy task. That said, we have been working on this recently and it was decided that while keeping the IG day/night ratio, we would make the IG months spread over a real time 12 month period. As PS only has 10 months, there are 36 days to each PS month. By doing this players still get to experience day and night in PS but can still associate RL seasons and holidays with PS.
The months will be broken down as follows:
Unodin 1st April – 6th May
Byari 7th May – 12th June
Treman 13th June – 18th July
Kravaan 19th July – 23rd August
Quintahl 24th August – 28th September
Azhord 29th September – 4th November
Ylaaren 5th November – 10th December
Dwanden 11th December – 15th January
Novari 16th January – 21st Febuary
Yndoli 22st Febuary – 31th March
We hope that this is useful and that you can now start with seasonal events. This of coarse also allows you to use IG dates too.
Enjoy.

Apropos months, so I wonder which kind of seasons Yliakum may have ... or how much it would be "out of character" to call Unodin and Byari "spring". Due to the rather limited influence of outer planetary weather on the temperature inside Yliakum, the seasons may be rather weak, I believe, but according to the character generation page, there are still times of seeding and times of harvesting across the year.
-
I still don't think the OSP should be put in that article, as it'd mean they'd have to have all their events planned a year in advance to fit on the page. This page is simply more of a basic guide to annually recurring events. Simple as that.
Excuse my use of two accounts.
-
I understand ... if this thread was planned for "fixed date" events, then they can indeed hardly fit in. "About monthly" is a rather vague concept, in contrast to such holidays.
-
Some Recurring Events to remember & list & include please?
The ANNUAL UNODIN FESTIVAL {near our 'spring' equinox}
See the Unodin and Second Unodin threads for all the many events in many locations the players organized and participated in. Attendance was terrific for the two Parades, the three 'religious society' service, the storytelling and singing performances and the market places.
The {every time we can make it happen } Saturday night DANCES and REVELRIES to Celebrate Xiosia
Held in Xiosia's Garden, sponsored by the Sons of Xiosia and the Daughters of Xiosia {SoX and DoX}
I certainly understand that one elf's night is another klyros' morning... time zone conversion is not RR's strong point.
So far each of these events has been player organized and run. If you are interested in participating, you are more than welcome! We see these kinds of events as a way to meet others, ease newer players into rps and build community around commonalities and interests. Who knows, maybe some baddies might not like the idea of such wholesome fun, and decide to do something about it.... :whistling:
Thanks for keeping these ongoing events in mind.
Yers,
Roled Rolak
Carrier of the Song
Sons of Xiosia
Proctor
Knowledge Seekers

Adding these events to the official calendar is our next step. We certainly have not forgotten or ignoring them. In fact if someone can write them up and provide screenies i will happily add them to the calendar asap.
-
I have an annual event that i will add in. It is rather serious and big, hoping for a massive outcome!!
