Hi!
As part of our player base revitalization, we want to add links, logos and description of guilds on this page: http://www.planeshift.it/guilds.html
We will retrieve the information about the number of guild members from the database, and order the guilds based on that, so go and recruit!! :)
If you have a logo you want to use or a specific link to a web page, please let us know in here.
The new guild page will be available soon (tm).

Good Idea Talad!
Database of players it is kinda cool
Is it both servers?

For your consideration

Just a logo yet if this can go as logo:

-
i'd go for a 1:1 logo than long ones looks more professional
-
glad the outlaws link hasn't changed in ages ;)
-
Yes, will be for both servers, two separate lists.
-
Hmm ... recruitment only for the purpose of being listed, instead of giving the guild a meaning?
Well, the Way of the Hammer is then much more important than the Knowledge Seekers only because they have already more members?
-
Ohh great that means KIC can get some more advertising!
-
The main PS web site has been updated, and now the page of guilds is linked properly.
Also there are few enhancements to that page. It lists all guilds and links to their web site (as present in the guild settings in game), also it searches for a "logo.jpg" on the guild web site and displays in the list!
Please note that to avoid cluttering the guilds page, we limited the display of the logo to the guilds with 25 members or more.
Enjoy!

Bloodstone Brethren guildsite and forums can be found here since a few months :

Your guild has a really nice website Yahh.
-
Uhm, well ... looks like this counts all members of all guilds which ever existed (either upto or even beyond the last wipe of accounts inactive for more than 3 years).
There are a lot of guilds I hardly remember, and member counts which are not at all "current". Many guilds there are already nearly dead, just not yet disbanded.
Furthermore I doubt I can become a member of "NPC Masters"... :P
-
the wiped chars can't appear in the listing as they aren't there. and the member amount isn't stored anywhere it's calculated from players associated to a certain guild.

Just name it logo.jpg and place it on your web site, it will be displayed in the guilds page of ps.it !

I like how Klyros Junction is on top of the list ;D
-
If you really want to get to the top of the list then just make a whole bunch of alts and invite them.
Tell each guild member that you'll give them a guild point for each alt that they add.
* bling *
Instant members !
More members means a wealthier, more powerful guild !
nobody wil mess with your members !
Er eh .. then again, all people do is make noob guilds, talk smack about being the greatest guild, and train .. and train .. oh yeah, almost forgot: "and train"
And its good for planeshift too because it will make it look like there are more members than there really are ;) ???
Then again, nobody will see the guild page because its hidden away ::)
.. its not like it was worth giving it a link from the main page ...
-
It's not that hidden, after all...
www.planeshift.it
left menu: Community > Guilds
Making alts joining the same guild is creepy... where's the point in having those big numbers? :detective:
-
Just in climbing the records list.
But there are still guilds which are able to present a dozen members at the same time (even without running several clients by the same user). Such a kind of "in-game presence" is much more valuable.

Cheating is for losers.

Talad and Rigwyn, if you are to argue, remember the proper place to do so. http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=37328.0
Anyways, I like the things your adding to the site, hopefully potential new players will see all that is going on, and all the guilds they can join, so that they have a feel for the environment of the game before even playing. I also have to say that Yahh's forum looks better than this tired old place! ;D
*hears everybody gasping at that last statement*
-
Hmm... The guild page is a bit misleading but that might be a good thing. It might get people thinking there are way more people around than there are and they might feel left out and come hop in to see what's going on. :D

This was a sarcastic remark on my part with the intention of pointing out a flaw.
Currently the list is ordered by a guild's head count which is highly inaccurate. Ordering by headcount (unintentionally) puts a value on exaggerating one's size. Those who are looking to attract players who are interesting in being in the biggest guild with a flashy website ( regardless of their ability or inability to rp ) will be tempted to bump up their count either directly by making alts or indirectly by not pruning out members that left, or by deliberately mass recruiting those who they know will not stick around.
In saying "Cheating is for losers" you acknowledge the value of being on top of the list.
Indirectly the guild list unintentionally makes a statement about PlaneShift. It says "We value headcount over all else"
Better to have a registry of approved guilds with details about how each guild fits into the rp environment, what they have contributed, and perhaps some two sided reviews. That sort of information would tell the player that PlaneShift focuses on quality role play. It would also put them into a proper mindset for chosing a guild that fits their soon-to-be character.

mmmh, seems to me you forgot the <sarcastic mode on> ;D
I use a lot of ;) or :D in being sarcastic.
I see your point, really, but I'd say:
"I propose to hide the headcount because those numbers can mislead new players, why don't we put the list in a more neutral alphabetic order?" stripped-off version :surrender:
it is true that a number sometimes speaks better than a whole description page... so I'm fine for a total headcount instead, and maybe a little description of the guild.
for the role play thing, there's a whole forum complaining about and the main website clearly stating it in the... "about" page.
I think a newcomer has enough clues for judging the gameplay. :whistling:

So you believe that was a mistake? ;) ;)

Just two thoughts and the resulting questions.
The way the list of guilds is sorted obviously does not make sense, but is that much of importance? If it is technically difficult to come up with a solution that reflects a guilds "relevance", why not have them simply listed alphabetically?
Would it be possible to have a more flexible way of sourcing the guild logo? Some guilds probably have issues putting the image in their forums root. In analogy to /guildweb command, one could offer a way to define the logos URL. And there is a /guildsymbol command mentioned in the help menu which does not seem to be implemented yet. Is it intended to be used for a similar thing?
-
@ligh, perhaps its just due to my line of work, but it looks and smells like deceit. What impression do you suppose that makes on a reader ?
Personally - would not put up misleading information.
The benefit to this of course is the initial "oh wow, look at all those players" reaction.
When I joined I was under the false impression that there were some ridiculous number of players .. Learning that this was not the case I felt tricked, but just shrugged it off.
The thing that I think matters the most is the type of audience this sort of thing might attract. Do you want to attract players that have zero interest in rp ?
If it were me, personally I would not, but that's just me.
-
I do think that if a guild is hidden/secret in game, it should be excluded from this listing.
-
Mekora and Geoni, thanks for your compliments to our homesite !
@ Talad : I have problems getting the logo displayed, renamed our banner to logo.jpg but i cannot put it in the forum root i guess, as Bonifarzia said.
Anyway, very nice to have the guildsites listed like this ...
Traveller greets ;)
-
So about banners do they all have to be connected to there website? Like Akkaio Setha Clan and Kore Irka Clan they both use Proboards as their forum hosts which means we cannot have banners under that website since the hosts won't let our the files like logo.jpg. Is there anyway to get around this?
-
@ Rigwyn:
Remember the Vulcans - they are unable to lie; at most they are able to exaggerate... ;)
"Deceit" sounds a bit harsh, but "misleading" is probably matching. The current kind of Guild List shows "eternal" records, but not a current activity. Limiting the display to e.g. the last 3 months instead of the last 3 years of active members might be more honest, but also quite embarrassing (that includes some of the guilds I have members in).
See PlaneShift as a company - every company needs advertizing, and the concurrence uses "optimistic" material as well for their own ads. And it is no spoiler to say: Every statistic is as true as its constraints.
-
I'd like to have fl.psde.de as guild website. Can you set it manually on the guilds.php or do I have to use that website in the ingame guild information?
Haraun

http://rovingraiders.webs.com/ - for Roving Raiders site. unfinished and no logo yet
-
Zon put that IG in guild info in to guild website.
Well I have an idea to even out what guild gets to go to the top. Well I thought this idea was great and fair!
Well ok you have in guild info the members well I was thinking of splitting that into Active and Inactive members by the PS mechanics it is simple one member who goes away for more than 3 months simple goes to the inactive list but the rest who are active stay on the active list. So on the main site only the active members show on the amount of members. :) sound good?
-
it would be interesting to know the unguilded active (last week activity) characters too.. no ?
-
Added master of the move logo to the page. If you cannot load the logo in your web site, let me know i can hard link any image you have, just give me the URL or send me the file.
