I've thought about it, and I would like to return to the game. However, I'm not sure if I'd be able to adapt again. I've made many comings-and-goings, and I've been playing a few different games (WoW, for example), and... overall, I suppose I'd like to see what's changed. I have a new roleplay idea relating to PS, which of course will be "out there" as many of my others have, though nothing like creating my own settings.
Anyway, I'm just posting to see who's out there that I still know. Anyone?
-
Hi. I doubt you knew me but I do recognize you. :)

Hi. I doubt you knew me but I do recognize you. :)
I do know you. I had a very extensive collection of alts... I think you knew a Kran of mine, was rather enthusiastic about the Stonehead tavern in the early stages. Wanted to learn to cook. And I was around Velh and Noriin a lot on different characters. I forget all their names, sadly.
-
hello person, i dont know if i know you but wibbles O--)
-
I'm now PS King. Who knew? Bow to me.
Oh and welcome.
-
you've let me surpass you in post count during your absence. :P
-
not me, but welcome back. this place definitely needs some more roleplay. just ask illysia. careful tho, she bites ;D
-
I is recognized. :D Don't worry, I may bite but I'm not a rabid troll like some people. ;) You probably ran into Illysia around Noriin and Velh as well.
-

Well of course. I can't post "+1" to a thread and lock it like you do. :P

Well, my roleplay idea for the moment certainly isn't with taverns. I want to try and break from that... but hopefully I still have my old tricks (and hopefully I can even get into the game again after I finish installing) and can organize some large-scale stuff. I know the player-base has gone down tremendously, and I can only hope that hasn't mostly afflicted the roleplay community.

ah yes, the return of yet another prodigal sun--o my I can't spell.
Certainly are a few more things to do, places to explore but as always your game is what you make it.
-
Welcome back to PS, I'm Vakachehk Kivikar you probably won't know me since I've only been playing for a year.

Very true. I logged in for a short bit after downloading the game again, and eventually it crashed after about an hour. Depressing seeing a red friend list... hoping I can get my character's name changed and start fresh. ;(

Hi Suno and welcome back Kotter..
RP has picked up a lot this summer ... and more rp is a good thing. FYI there's a intersecting 4 part storyline rps going on.. please check our threads..

Gameplay / General Discussion / LONG FORM player initiated Role Play in the making- Wanna play? on: June 06, 2010, 10:54:26 PM
A long form, improvisational series role play is in the works- Wanna play?
If you're interested in an extended rp that will combine elements of dramatic conflict, humor, magic, regular Yliakum life, surprises and pie, with character driven and motivated opportunities for slash and hack as well as thoughtful and eccentric character interaction, then please let me know on the thread above...
Looking forward to walking in on one of yours.
Roled Rolak

Welcome back. Roleplay has changed, and there are too many people who think that they can make the settings up and pre-plan roleplays, but trust me there are some that don't and that some needs more that don't.
-
Welcome back. Roleplay isn't dead, it's weak in some places, has a few flaws at the moment, but a good story is always welcomed :)
-
Hrngh. You have no idea how terribly hard it is to get back into things if every single road/simple texture glitches horrifically for me. Going from Ojaveda to Hydlaa? A nightmare. The entire ground is transparent. I had to have someone come and help me find my way, it was so bad. Apparently due to having an Intel video card, but... really, did this have to be changed since I last played? This is the first time I've had a glitch this terrible.
-
Did you change the graphics settings? That could help as I too have an intel graphics card thingy... ( ;D Laptops are a pip) but my roads are only black not transparent.
-
Well, they'll start off black, but if I move my camera at all, any outer textures (the sky, trees, my own character, chat bubbles) will overlap that black, and... well, "stick" to my screen. Basically, it's transparent. Sometimes I'll even get rainbow colors, but still some patches have that weird texture glitch.
But, yes, I've turned down my graphics settings about as low as they'll go, not helping me, though. ;/
-
What about adaptive settings for the camera, have you played around with that?
-
Adaptive distance? Yeah, I've tried rearranging all of that. Not really a camera issue. Here's just a small example of what I see:

Yep .. welcome to 0.5x
Might help to scrap that intel card and replace it with a new Nvidia card.
Last I heard, hw specs were 2ghz processor and 1 gig of ram. I played on a 1.86ghz processor with 1 gig ram but had to make sure that nothing else was open at the same time in order to keep memory use low.
Good luck.

welcome back 'n stuff :P

Maybe try deleting the shadercache file and letting your computer rebuild it. Note you are going to get lag/freezes while the file is being recalculated but after it has been rebuilt for an area under the different lighting conditions the lag/freezing should go away.
I'm not sure this will help your specific problem but it seems to be one of the standard things to try these days.

Just another screenshot to further show the annoyance of this problem. Next year is when I'll be able to scrap everything, but for now I'm stuck with this POS computer I have now. Plus I wouldn't really want to scrap anything just to play Planeshift due to a glitch that I shouldn't be having (and didn't have) to begin with. :/
Edit: ... Ahahaha. The nogui function didn't even work in this screenshot. I love it.
-
Your character is having pretty acid trips but I have no idea how to go about fixing those... :(

Someone suggested that earlier and it didn't work. Spent about an hour just finding the file, too.
-
Illysia he can't the card is just too old and an intel at that, thats how the roads look on my old gefoce 3 ti500
the only way would be to "make" the builders emulate this somehow but i doubt it would work.

Hey suno o/
Wibbles :)

Big Bad List of Glitches:
Loading even the smallest of maps takes forever unless it's the very first map I load when logging in.
Loading character models/NPC's takes ten minutes. I can see chat bubbles, but I can't see the name label nor the model of the person speaking. Occasionally it only -loads- their name label, and nothing else, or a random piece of armor such as the floating plate torso I saw running around earlier.
The map thing I've already mentioned.
Going down stairs or inclines/declines often makes my character "bounce" in a very choppy way (nothing really new, I suppose)
And something rather annoying, as I mentioned in that screenshot: when using the /tell feature, it keeps it on my screen, meaning if I want to say something in a different tab or take a screenshot, I have to manually delete the /tell person'sname from my insertion point in order to do so.
-
Yeah the chat has changed and it will take some getting used to. I think that like me, you honestly need a new graphics card.
-

you can fix that in options.
options -> interface -> chat -> default last chat (turn this off)
:)

Thank you, that helped.
Now, my only other major issue (since it seems that the road glitching is unavoidable until Planeshift fixes whatever the hell it did to change it from before) is some NPC/player models loading slower than others. I'm currently standing on top of the tavern waiting for Allena to even become visible to me - I could see her chat bubble when I got up there, but I can't target her with clicking or typing /target Aleena. I can see Jefecra and Harcrit down below, but for some reason, not her, and this happens many other times where I'm not able to see any players or NPC's, or if I do, it's either just a chat bubble, their name label, or a random piece of armor/weapon they may have equipped. What can I do about this? Yes, my graphics are as low as they'll go.

you could disable threading could help with single core computers. Threading.AlwaysRunNow = true place this in planeshift.cfg in the folder where logs and screenshots are stored too. you might also want to disable bgloader in pslaunch

Woah. Weltall, I think I love you. I'm just now logging in to see if anything will change or not, but just the fact that you were that detailed in your explanation is revolutionary. That was the easiest file I've ever found related to PlaneShift Thank you!
