Hi all,
Well there has certainly been some interesting discussion on the forums of late, regarding the boundaries of what constitutes acceptable vs. non-acceptable roleplaying. This started me thinking: As it stands, a male character can have two wives, but two female (or two male) characters cannot marry. I have been told that even two members of the same sex referring to each other as wives or husbands repeatedly is enough to earn banning.
:ban:
Since a lot of the aforementioned discussion involved sermons on how unacceptable it is to RP such things as rape fantasies, violence toward women, and animal abuse, I was left wondering why no one seemed upset -- or even concerned -- about the sort of bigotry that an in-game ban on same-sex marriage conveys? :o

In my world... the unacceptable rps involve violence, hatred, degradation and power over.
Marriage involves respect, unity and love.
It is not bigotry to be against the crime of rape-virtual or otherwise.
Social bigotry is not the same as crime. ... in my world.
And what makes you think that 'no one is upset-- or even concerned--" about social bigotry? Check the forums....

Gay marriage is for homos.

Roled: And what makes you think that "no one is upset -- or even concerned --" about social bigotry?
Ok, guilty as charged, I haven't read up on the issue thoroughly. What I said was that no one 'seemed' concerned, and what I meant was simply that it had not been brought up in the 'Some Observations' thread as a concern.
*edit*
Oh, and Roled I was not accusing you or anyone else of being bigots for being against said forms of RP! I apologize for any misunderstanding. What I meant was simply that if one were worried about violence against women in-game, should one not also be equally worried about bigotry of this sort?

I told myself I was going to cut down on forum posts but oh well... I shall contribute to clarification once again.
It's not currently brought up due to the past wall against it. It's not that the Devs have a problem with it per se, but with the already large laundry list of issues they have, taking on controversial topics comes in at the bottom of the list. This is basically because implementing it could cause an even bigger firestorm than not doing it caused. Should you go looking for the old topics on it, take your armor...
Also note that most of the gay characters in the game are fairly new. I distinctly remember the time before lesbian characters became common. In fact, I would go so far as to say that Lhaa influenced a lot more female characters being lesbians. Not that she was the first, but it didn't become quite as common until after her, in my opinion. Also, gay male characters are still quite rare. Thus, while it was argued for every now and again in the past, there probably wasn't even enough gay characters to merit changing the code.
