Every attempt will be made to not make this a spoiler....
My character happened upon an area where the developmental exit seems to be the Death Realm. Once in the area a character without a mount is trapped. There are two very nasty monsters there which one could sacrifice one too or simply die of hunger and/or lack of water after 1 rl day or so. As it turns out my character just happens to have a loaf of bread and a pouch of water so I suspect she could last a month of game time.
She is not foolish enough to throw herself at the agents of Dakkru.
My hope is that the message my companion left at the Hydlaa tavern will be received by the one it was left for and she shall get a rope and come to rescue my character. It is also my hope that there will be GM aid in seeing this RP to a happy outcome.
To present such a choice to a player is to suggest that the death realm is a great way to get out of an area that is difficult for you or perhaps you are lost in. My character's companion immediately suggested that approach. When it was explained that my character remains in the DR for 2 game days they were then open for the RP solution.
To achieve certain death; which this area seems to desire; it would be much better to have the monsters in the area being aggressive and attack characters that land there. If the monsters are defeated then there should be some way to exit the area short of a visit to Dakkru. Perhaps stepping on their dead corpses to climb out.
Being a wizard on a mud; where one guideline of coding is to not create any areas where characters become trapped without any solution; this area goes against my grain and for that reason this complaint is being logged.

before 0.5 that map was a death trap now you should be able to get over
-
Only if you have a mount.

Allow me to translate the original post: "Character gets trapped at position x,x,x and must /die." *laughs*

"Character gets trapped at position x,x,x and must /die."
It should be a good test to see if some GM wants to support RP; as opposed to using the DR as the ultimate exit.

[Edit - One handy item on the map would be a rope. It could be dropped down from a height and used like a ladder. It should take into account ones climbing ability. It has been an item which has been RPed by my character a number of times to tie people up as well. It could have that use using some skill like lock pick to allow a character to become unbound. ]

tbh I don't see that "trap" as bad thing, you shouldn't wander around in that cave, anyway.
I'm not sure what you searched down there, but I can only think of things that are *clearly* forbidden in Yliakum one could want in that area...

Thanks! That totally made it easier to comprehend.
There should be a way of getting out, or they should just make it deep enough for a char to die with the fall (if it's meant like a death trap.) It shouldn't depend on /die or /asking help from GMs.
-
A) other characters could rescue the character. (if you are really stuck on the map and you are RPing getting unstuck, try the GM)
B) the character should get him/her/kraself out, eventually.
C) they starve/die of thirst rather than kill themselves.
If these three things happen and don't work, then a character would be likely to kill themselves.
-
Sure you want a lot of attention being rescued form there Nova? Per the Octarchal Decree just entering a burial well is punishable by banishment ;D It just might be better to accept your self imposed 2 game day stay n the DR ;)
-
Citizens found entering a burial well should be detained and brought before the Ochtarch. If they had mining tools with them at the time, then that should increase the penalty.
-
Why the mining tool increase penalty? Is the well ore rich? O.o
-
Its in the books, just a thought.
-
I got stuck in there as a player and RPed my way out (once, /die the others, GRRR!!!) with the help of a GM (GM's ROCK!!!), but now you can just use your springy mounts.

Now you have my interest. :)

Well considering my character has never had a pick axe wielded in her hands ever we will be making the lesser plea. :)
She had her companion leave a note for her friend to perform a rescue so we shall have to see how this RP goes. She has enough food and water to last for about a game month is my guess.

looks like something changed in collision detection again ... at 0.5 that map changed to fix this problem. will have to reopen the bug
-
I wonder where this trap should be ... so far I don't remember any place which does not yet have at least e.g. a portal with waysign to allow an emergency exit.
If you don't wish to make this trap public, send me a PM. I miss such developments more often than I could like... - All from the point of a PS Tester.

It is my pleasure to announce that all has worked out fine and it is no longer a blind trap. Expect wine and pies on the altar of Talad!

I heard! I be on me way!

Hi, I believe one of the points made here was that there was a place on the map where one could get to and not escape other than by dyeing. Even though that place may have a "fix" it is not the only one. I know of at least three additional places where one is trapped with no escape but to die. In addition, in these places a mount would not help either. If a GM wishes to know these places they can contact Qata privately.
So with so many places, is it accepted that there is a "dead end" or is this something to be remedied?
And if accepted, then is it not also alright to escape a situation by going through the death realm?
-
It depends on how you want to handle the accident.
If you see it as OOC, leave through the Death Realm.
If you insist in seeing it as IC, do anything else that might be necessary to survive.
-

My approach was going to be that after one game month Venorel would have been without water for a game week; which in the physics of our real world would be enough to expect natural death. At that point the /die command would have been used.
This is given as one player's approach and is not meant as any standard that all others should have to conform to.
From a game development point of view, it is my feeling that if a dead end is intentional then death should be forced upon the player; with an aggressive monster, a fall to ones death, etc.; and not offer the opportunity for a character to have to linger for many game days awaiting such an IC eventuality.

Why not? Getting trapped somewhere without food and water until the onset of morbidity unfortunately is something that still happens to many people IRL. It is a mortal outcome just like being savaged by a beast, or falling to one's death.
-
Why not?
Because in an RP environment one could assume the possibility of comrades coming to ones rescue with ropes in hand. This was simply not possible when the dead end was first encountered by my character.

I doubt that this part of the map was meant to be a dead end; developers usually don't make death traps on purpose - except for the floor of the Death Realm which even got a "death zone" while there was no falling damage (once upon a time). Well, and this generalisation might change for the "real Death Realm", once it gets published...
And if it is the place I could imagine (I still cannot be sure where you mean), then there might be a trick to get out of there without dying.
-
Either you are in an RP environment or you are not. Which is it?
-
I bet the Explorers knew of this place before devs even created it.
I also bet that they currently know several escape methods from this so called trap, including one that automatically transfers you onto a Halo 2 battlefield.

i got out last year. the other player i was with didn't make it. but i did. true story. and i didn't use /unstick. :detective:
(i think i know which death trap you're talking about... the one referred to as death trap?)

Makes me want to try to fiddle with this further, as Kaerli. :P

I'd just like to point out that this is probably a stupid bug and that if a GM doesn't want to bother himself helping you out of a hole, you should roleplay the inability to escape from it (and the consequent death), rather than pretending your pals carried a rope all along.

First the bug seems to have been fixed.
Second, as to a previous note of mine, my character happened to have bread and a pouch of water so the intention was to wait until 30 game days had passed (although that seems to be a fuzzy issue too) and then die of starvation. There was another character with mine and they were asked to leave a note at the Kada for a friend for when she next checked inn for a room. It was then that the rope idea was intended to be employed. My intention was to RP the situation to the best of my ability and not take the Death Realm route without a solid background story.

There are some bugs around the game and you can choose to roleplay them as accidents... or simply circle around them. And you shouldn't expect GM help when you can circle around something. Certainly they might feel like roleplaying though, so it doesn't hurt to ask.
