Title: Help with client.
Post by: Piker on September 30, 2010, 11:45:28 am
Hi all

I'm returning to PS after about 6 months away. I downloaded the 64 bit client and started playing with no problems.

I had been playing a few days, but yesterday for some reason the client now won't load. I get PSLaunch running fine, then get to char selection screen no probs. It's when the map is loading it quits, right at the end just as you would expect the game to be there and it says loading GUI on the splash screen. I get no error report and nothing written to the error log.

I've tried unistalling and reinstalling, i've even tried the 32bit version of the client, but nothing seems to work for me.

System specs

Sony Vaio
Windows 7 64bit
Intel i5 520 2.4Ghz dual core
ATI 5650 1Gb graphics
6Gb RAM
All drivers up to date.

One thing i changed shortly before it stopped working was the chat tabs, as guild/auction etc were missing for me.

Also i can't seem to find the folder in windows 7 where chat logs etc are stored, as i thought there might be some config file stored seperately from the client there also.

Thanks.

First try to check with Game Masters (e.g. in IRC channel #planeshift-gmtalk) if there is currently rain in the area where you expect to load, this can be a common issue preventing you from appearing in the game world as long as there is no client update being published.

User specific data (like chat logs and screenshots) are usually in %APPDATA%\PlaneShift (enter that in the Windows Explorer address line or in the "Run..." dialog).

Thanks Ligh, i got it sorted.

It was one of the .cfg files in appdata folder. I deleted them both and started with fresh copies and it worked fine first time.

Not sure why but hey, it's sorted now :)

Maybe related to audio. There have been some people who suddenly could not start anymore because it was not anymore set to "OpenAL".
