Just a warning, my registration date is NOT the actual date that I knew about this project. I knew about Planeshift back in 2002/2003 when there was 1 city, and no NPCs or skills or anything :P
Anyway I have decided that now content actually exists for me to play with I would finally come on in, give it a try, and see how things go! I did have a few questions however that are not answered by the material that I have read.
Does the client work with Windows 7 and are there any specific things I am going to have to do to make it work?
Is this played in 1st or 3rd person?
Mainly just those 2 things. If you all see someone called Argothial or Stomphoof wandering around that would be me. So hopefully I see some of you in game soon.

There are about 6 camera perspectives you can change in and out of; 1st and 3rd being two of them.

Ooh lookie here .. an oldbie! 2002/2003 aye?
Well, ya missed the boat pal, the good times are over.

yes, it works on win 7, the current release client is built on windows vista, next will be build on 7, so you shouldn't have an issue. just run the installer (it also installs the required vcredist package) and you'll be fine

Think you may have missed his point for not remaining back in the day, Sillamon. Doesn't sound like a bitter o-hole to me. ::)

The game was nice, but I like to run around and stab things and level and stuff :P Nothing wrong with it, and if I was bitter or something I wouldn't even bother to check it back out ;)
Thanks for getting the point there Nova! :D

If you're going to focus on combat, that's fine. There's a fairly wide variety of creatures to fight. If you like RP there are still enough players to do so as long as you're not only online during the slow periods of the day. I'd advise staying away from any job skills except for making high quality stocks and selling them, as most crafting skills are unpleasant and nowhere near as profitable.

I will only be online in the evenings, like 7pm EST to 11pm EST. If those are the slow times then I will be surprised.
And I do enjoy the RP. Now to think of a character HRMM. Gonna have to look up the races available.

Gawd, you just say things and bait arguments to bring attention to yourself. If you want to be a forum whore, you shouldn't be one of the stinky ones.

Technically all races are available, but the new looks since 2003 would be: Enkis now have fur options based on clan affliation (rabani, clamod, akkaio... etc), The Dermorian male got a face update, a few hairstyles, and one hair color option. Dermorian female once again has a model and a few hair style options but all dermorians have copper colored hair now. Ylian males got a face update and more hair styles and Hammerwielder females got a face update as well. The Nolthrir female finally got a model and a few hairstyles and Krans now have color options based on composition (granite, sandstone, etc...). Also, Ynnwn females have face options and new hair options.
For a general overview of added features: There are now 3 major cities (one ylian, one enkidukai, one Kran. Amdeneir might also be on its way soon.), two other major areas (bronze doors and winch.) Many new quests. More implemented skills such as cooking and shield handling. You can now get mounts and pets. Only the pets can attack I believe. Also, the mobs got nerfed and powered up several times in the intervening years so tread carefully, especially with mobs you haven't seen before. Even the little harmless looking kikiri... :whistling:
Also, guilds now have the option of buying guild houses at auctions at millions of tria a pop. They should be much harder to buy though, as platinum was both reintroduced and taken back out or at least moved. If you want to see the guildhouse structure without a guild, go snooping around for the octarch's house, the guards barracks, or the jailhouse (look for the guarded buildings). Speaking of buildings, a few mob groups live in villages that you can stumble across in your travels. And tip light when walking around shady areas as you might stumble across the black flame temple. Should you need to repent or something though, there is now a temple of talad in addition to the lannx temple.
All in all, there as been a lot of new items and feature updates and so on and so forth, but in my opinion, the RP leaves something to be desired which nullifies the bulk of the updates. Shiny is nice, but the newness wears off fast. RP can stand for a long time but considering the stuff I've heard of recently, there isn't as much of that going on anymore.
Gawd, you just say things and bait arguments to bring attention to yourself. If you want to be a forum whore, you shouldn't be one of the stinky ones.
Now now Geoni, don't feed the forum whores. ;) Besides, you might prick his ego and start a new wave of complaints about whoever he thinks he needs to be on his soapbox about.

Wait...you two say nova is real?!?!...I already wanted to congratulate Sillamon for his great Akkaido parody.
If Stomphoof played atomic blue even combat, items and currency will be new for him. Also chatting has been "improved" a bit...there are chat-channels now. And of course the improvements for grinding should not be forgotten. Instead of running around searching for crystals you now stay at the same place and hit the same monster for hours.
