I can't find any files blatantly named planeshift.cfg, I have psclient.cfg and when I added that line to it, it crashes the game when I try to go into the game world, and I saw no difference in the character select window

The file should be in "~/.PlaneShift" not the installation directory. ("~" is your home directory, ".PlaneShift" is a hidden directory, you might have to setup your filemanager to show those)
