As in game message boards just were implemented, I sincerely doubt we need them in two places

Were are they in the game?
-
In every freaking city.
-
i keep them around until the in-game ones are deemed to be stable and not going to be removed due to a currently unforeseen technical issue.
-
Maybe a notice saying that some things may only be in game, and should be posted ingame as well.
-
Possibility is to some how connect the two together and so when someone places a notice on the board in Hydlaa (IG) it will pop up here in forums...?
-
I think thats impossible, unless they make PS a web browser game
-
Not necessarily.
The Guilds page (http://www.planeshift.it/guilds.php) is generated by a PHP script reading datasets from a database table.
A website based readable copy of in-game billboards would be possible if the Billboards themselves were the host of messages (not books being put on them).

Sounds like a pretty good idea to me... I'd keep them around for a bit longer, until the message boards become more widely known and used... The problem is, you'd have to have the reverse be true as well... If someone posted something on the forum message board, you'd have to have it appear on the IG message board, and I'm not exactly sure how that could me done... ???

Or you have the thread on the forum locked and so it can only come from the IG message board. Or we could change the Events page (on planeshift.it/events.php (http://planeshift.it/events.php)) to be the IG message boards, or just have both Events and Message Boards. To show the message boards (I don't know what they look like) have options of the different cities (Amd, Hyd, Oja, Gug) and either having a webcam effect with some other way of reading it. I don't know if the message boards are just an area full of books (or notes if they have implemented those) or an actual new feature with a board that anyone can place messages on and read off. So yeah I dunno if it is that important, but an idea.

It seems important, to me, to leave at least a mirror of the message boards here on the forum. The realism of having it only in game is understandable; yet my guess is that they will be checked less and, over time, used less in game.

This might sound kinda silly, but I've never written a book IG, and I don't know how.... So, for me, it would take a little while to figure out how to leave a note on the message board.
And also, it does take out one aspect of the Forum Thread RPs. As it stands now, we can reply to previous posts, by having our characters come up, and either defile, or scribble or do any number of things in response to previous messages. On the In Game boards, it might look a little silly to have a second book posted beneath the first one saying "The note above me now has a dagger sticking through it." And being able to play back and forth with people on the forum threads was something I always enjoyed.
I really like the concept of using both, as it allows for the RP interactions, as well as letting game members who might not use the forums a chance to see the notices. Is there really a good reason for not using both? I think as long as players make an effort to put concurrent posts on both the forum and the game boards, it shouldn't be a big deal.

If you want to allow someone to leave their own note on your message on the billboard or allow someone to leave a dagger on your post you could post your message using a public editable book. Those are available now from Jayose . Of course using a public editable book runs the risk of someone wiping out or altering your original message.
-
Oooh! That would be perfect. I didn't know we had those. :)

I guess the only way would be to continue posting individual books for each person's post.... But that gives a whole host of issues, like overcrowding, and people taking down other people's posts...

For the dagger problem: buy one, stick it in the board, and use /rotate.

with a 0.5.5 client you can also hold (shift+)right click and move your mouse in order to rotate the dagger till it looks right to you :)

Nice! :D
-
Really? I never knew that.

I heard about that in the 0.5.5 thread Talad posted but I don't really understand this whole confusing thing RlyDontKnow is talking about :P
Well to me I would of thought that any book placed on the message board was automatically locked in, a message is then sent to a GM who then can check if the message is allowed to stay. The message will simple say (Probably in the petition window) "[Player name] has placed [name of book] on [town name] message board." GMs being able to spawn, can simple spawn to the message board, take a look at the message, and tick the book off the petition window if they think it is acceptable.
Or the devs can go hard out and copy the book that was placed on the message board into the GMs petition window (I am guessing it will be in the petition window but will be kinda like the Quest window how you choose Events and Quests. Normal petitions and Message Boards).
