Title: Nostalgia Thread
Post by: Ebonwumon on January 22, 2011, 03:35:51 am
So I was just kicking it old school in the Planeshift channel, telling stories of the great fun times that I used to have in Planeshift when a bunch of nostalgia happened at me in a way that is big. So I decided to anbay vadeeay (lol, look at my secret code there) and create an account to make a super special awesome nostalgia thread.

Quote
<Ebonwumon> Man, I remember when I first joined PS.
<Pizik> ditto
<Ebonwumon> My first major experience ingame was killing getting annoyed that these fenkis were spawn camping the rogue on the road in oja.
<Ebonwumon> So when they left for a second to go cash in the goods and train and crap, I jacked their rogue.
<Ebonwumon> So I was like trolololol I'm killin ur rogue and it's awesome.
<Ebonwumon> Then they came back and they're like, "The hell are you doing touching that rogue, that's ours"
<Ebonwumon> And I'm like, "That's odd, because I'm killing it"
<Ebonwumon> And they're like "Your name is stupid, what are you a girl?"
<Ebonwumon> [my last name was perriwinkle]
<Ebonwumon> And I called them fat.
<Ebonwumon> Then we got into a fight, and I was killed in not two seconds.
<Ebonwumon> And they're like, "And if we see you around oja again, we'll just beat the crap out of you on sight"
<Ebonwumon> And that was how I met Allola.

It's funny because Allola was crazy angry like hulk smash type thing and when it happened at you, you were all like "lol, umad uummaaaadd" and she was all like GRAAAH I'M BILL O'REILLY.

True story.

My first PvP was Peacer. Got demolished. Some Kran saved my ass. I trained hard and haven't been beaten since, except by Jacula.

my first pvp experience was in the arena. another noob, the first friend i made on ps, was led into the dlayo pit where he was slayed by vvallace. i mustered up my courage and fought back for justice, only to be felled in one blow. it was traumatic, and from then on i have never let another's misery, even that of a friend, lure me into death. how naïve and rash i was...

My first Pvp....I was killing dlayos as usual, wheras vvallace jumped the wall, and attacked me, i killed him, and that started our back and forth dlayo pit attacks :)
Trogdar got mixed in with it so on occaision i have to kill him >.>

I had only two real PvP encounters at all. In times when there were "Duelling points" (they got removed because there were @§$holes who challenged every noob and killed them instantly - for the points only).

Both were friendly duels with one of my best friends in starting times - Rolf Blacksmith. I lost both. And him as well...

Much more fun was the roleplaying duel during the initiation of Keella as Guard in the Way of the Hammer.

Tales by the original fire in the Kada-El with Indygo and Einnol. Dueling in the DR (OK it was OOC). Meeting people at the gold mine by Levrus. And at the platinum mine below the Iron Temple. The BD road Brigand.

Playing "Hide and Seek" (and Cha0s' rogue events around a kidnapped Trasok) in the steep valleys of ojaroad ... which turned into the soft hills of bdroad1 one day.

Minks' brother Oulyma giving her a pair silverweave daggers when they were still something special. I still have them.  :)

My first PvP experience was when I was killing a Dlayo, I was a noob and didn't think straight at all. Next thing some POC member came jumping down and killed me. A few days later, I then saw another POC member sitting up there me being a noob had a go at her in /tells, to then find out in the future that player is a GM

I duelled once. Got killed in three seconds. I knew it was gonna happen though.

But really, what makes me nostalgia, is that first day on PS ever. After deleting my first fenki 'cause there was some issue I had with the tutorial, I rolled my second one and explored Ojaveda a bit, did the rat quests, and then decided maybe I should try leaving the town. I was actually scared something might jump at me and tear my fenki apart at any second. ;D

I think it was on that same fenki - this was back when you could "climb" more and jump higher - some menki showed me how to climb up to the Ojavedan rooftops. I can't remember who it was; I lost all the logs from that time 'cause I didn't know you had to back them up.

I remember finding my first diamond, very exciting. Those were the glory days.

I remember falling to my death on my first day when I tried to find the Bronze Doors. There was a guard standing there and there was a gap in the fence where he was standing. Had to be the entrance to the Bronze Doors, right?

Quite a couple of meters below, I figured out, it probably wasn't. ;-)

all i ever could get was rubies.

i think the shining moment from me was when kada got her tavern made into an in game place.  that was a very awesome day for everyone, players and devs alike.

I remember hunting trepors along the OjaRoad path for hours on end, and then, excited over my whopping 30-ish damage with my daggers, I saw a ulbdernaut as I ran back to sell my loot.  I moved my camera to get a good look at it's face, and thought "Hey, that thing's pretty cool"  I decided to try killing it....with level 20 daggers....  Needless to say, I didn't win  ;D

I remember sharing the rogue in the forest near the magic shop with 3-5 other people talking it in turns to kill it and just generally chatting while doing so.

I also remember the time where the only thing implemented was picking up rubies. I found only 1 diamond in my whole playing. I just loved this game from the beginning. Just sad that I don't have the time to play enough.

I seem to remember, years and years ago...i think this was towards the start of Crystal Blue, there was a locked chest in the place where the barrels are in hydlaa under the exit from the dungeon that you couldn't actually do anything with because lockpicking wasn't implemented...but i can't find anyone else who remembers this chest. So...does anyone besides me remember this chest?

Yes, I do (during 0.3.01x) – on the "Woipers' Wiesn". There were even two, with a higher and a lower limit of lockpicking. But we all have no serious skill in it, yet.

\\o// That made my day. I've been looking for someone who remembered that for a while.

Even the Woiperdinger are still here. Who else do you remember? Maybe I can help you finding them (if they are still present).

I remember my first day fairly well.  And those were the days before logs!  I met a fenki names Savarin and a Ynnwn with a Japanese sounding name.  Savarin taught me how to get on the roofs.  Then I met another fenki named Karyuu.    :)   I remember playing for hours collecting crystals.  Every time someone found a diamond they would greet it and everyone would congratulate them.  It reminded me of shouts of "Norm!" on Cheers.   ;D

I remember the crystals on the ground. good times. I pulled up an old account from early CB the other day. Had an alt on it w/ no skills. at all. don't think that's even possible anymore.

Things I remember about the Good Ole Days (pre-0.5)

-Not as much lag as now
-Game didn't take 15 minutes to start up
-Hydlaa doesn't take 4 minutes to load
-Dueling was skill-based, not on what your axe level is
-I could actually kill monsters besides Arangmas, rats, and sewer mobs, and the occasional unskilled rogue, and my friends and I would go ulber-hunting often.
-There was a nicer community (not slamming on anyone in particular, but I've noticed the players have gotten more sour as of late)

Now, in non-technical terms, my best planeshift memory was definitely falling to the bottom of the Bronze Doors and having it glitch up so that I didn't die. I was such a noob lol. I thought I did something special and that there was unreleased stuff down in that chasm and that I got super lucky, and announced so in the chat (I was mislead by some of the pictures of stuff that actually wasn't in-game that was on the main website). I explored around there for 2 hours before realizing how stupid I was.

Most people in-game that are sour, probably were on the forums too long ;)

Things have certainly progressed a whole lot.

I remember the days of atomic blue, and how the awkward looking dwarf walked - and it was the only character you could use. Once I fell through the floor and was strangely stuck in blackness, I didn't know about /unstick can't remember if it was even a command - so I had to restart the game.

those were good times. I miss kada's tavern

I don't know how Kada-El's tavern was before 0.3; but now, with the basement containing the fireplace, it is even more cozy. And safer regarding dwarven parties... ;)

And there are even more taverns, all with their own charme. Unfortunately, half of them lack of guest rooms. Tourism is an important topic not to underestimate!
