Hey everyone, quick survey...
What do you wish you could do in an mmorpg? Use your imagination. It could be something that no mmorpg yet offers, or it could be a variation on something that already exists, or it could even be something that is very common but that you still really like. Please refrain from posting anything crude.
As an example:
I wish I could build/construct in an mmorpg. Some have had this to a certain extent, but not very many, and usually when they do implement it, it's very limited. I'd love for an mmorpg to have comparatively creative building opportunities, with at least as many options as a game like the Sims has.

I wish I could shop inside a mall... b'coz I love shopping when my legs aren't sore or I'm not tired AND HAVE INFINITY MONEY, and that is usually when I'm lying on my bed on the laptop. So really build an Emporium and let us go shoppingzzz :D

i want to have real martial arts in an mmorpg. with different styles and moves, all the attacks key-binded, and it's fought in real-time and it would all be based on skill! and crazy physics! so if you back spinning heel kick a noob in the face, he slams into a wall and his head explodes! or if you axe kick someone hard enough, maybe their arm will get torn off. and a tornado kick releases a giant twister of immense proportions, swallowing your opponent and spitting him out all over the place! and you can jab your fist up through people's stomachs and into their ribcages and tear their heart out and eat it! like vampire ninjas or something. omnomnom!

I want to build things that last, to make or do things that are useful, to go beyond the edges of the world and I want to play music.

Underwater harpoon monster fishing.
That is all.

Another point for Phantom...
As for what I'd like.. I'd like to see some form of music brought into the game, and archery brought in as a more interactive skill, perhaps having the user aim with a mouse, and the higher their Ranged level is, the less the mouse will float around...

Vakachehk: I see your point, sort of... though most mmos are fantasy, so a shopping mall wouldn't quite fit, but maybe a shopping experience that relates a little more to real life?
Sarras: I understand what you're looking for, and it could have been conveyed without all the graphic detail. I definitely agree with your desire for a more twitch-based fighting system in mmos.
Verden: Not sure about everything you said. The main thing I took away is that you'd like to be able to do things in the game that have more lasting impact.
Phantomboy: Ok...
Caraick: Interesting. Have you seen the way they implement music in LotRO? Is that more or less what you're talking about? The archery idea is pretty cool, I'll give you that.
Just to clarify, this thread has nothing to do with PS, per se.
-
what? You wouldn't want to go under the sea and stab a giant monster to death with a harpoon?
-
way too funny.....
@ Sarras, have you tried WoW? Isn't that where all the graphic gore is?
-
WoW isn't graphic at all. it's too cartoony.

I did say a special word... Emporium, it means an olden day market (I know it is indoor but I don't know if you can get an outdoor one ???) they are mostly built for the wealthier people, so more flashy inside with expensive shops/stalls, I do think that if you have an indoor shopping mall type thing it is very possible to make it fantasy like. But yes making a more of a shopping experience, or improving it, you could wander around any popular WoW city and find shops clustered together (wall to wall) that's something we should have around the Hydlaa Plaza.
@Sarras WoW is still more successful than PS ;)

Running epic quests, slay huge and ugly monsters with a spear, charging on a mount and wearing a full plate armour.
Take part as an humble soldier in a all-players-war on a great battlefield.
Ride monsters into battle.
Raise rabbits-like creatures.
See great landscapes of mountain, forests, and desert, going underground in dark tunnels filled with degenerated people.
Silently stab people in dark alleys with a rusty knife...

- Buy books from Jayose's
- Produce potions, tinktures, bandages and so on for medical purposes
- Have a store in an emporium
- Work in a sanatorium
- Be able to run an herb garden
-
the capability for player created events so powerful that they become canon.
an npcless mmo.

More interactive gardening.
Also, interactive PvP sports.
The ability to draw a cover to your books.
Expanded magical ways: Spells and Glyphs.
Better Looting Mobs.
Etc.

To be honest, I'd like to see less grind in this game. My character is supposedly as intelligent as a stone in spite of the only training I ever did being in intelligence and every in game effot being towards some academic pursuit. And bloody hell it was a grind. I would loath to have said to the hint or suggestion of a plot that I would love to partake but I've got to go kill things so I can get smart. But thems the game mechanics. Makes very little sense to me. But then again maybe I'm just being silly because I was so in love with the skill system in Lovecraft Country.

Thats only A-G. And it's an old shot so there have been a fair few added since.

You can already do that :)
-
Well there's no spears, and charging on a mount does nothing but keeping the animation to run.
The battle is possible, yeah, but there's no such number of players so you can run real tactics!
And people see you, even in the dark... And can recognize you!

[noobish rambling]I know, and I hope I can burn that tent in Hydlaa (and every table, bed and stuff there, too) on a regular basis too minimize the infection rate there (one could use a glyph too, having a mundane backup protocol is nice tho'). Then again, I want to explain what I meant with a Gedankenexperiment:
Hydlaa has between 1000 and 10000 inhabitants (that being unfounded, wild guesses), has a lot of travellers (aka most of the PCs), a non-functional sewage system. There also might be a breakout of disease(s) in the sealed off parts of Ojaveda. If there's a breakout of sickness in Hydlaa, that one tent is useless - even if the nobles could care about themselves, without additional capability to deal with more than two patients at a time (there might be something in the Laanx temple?), Hydlaa has a serious lack of medical care for the common citizen that is not player-run.
[/noobish rambling]
The amount of crystal way practitioners in Hydlaa, given the background information given in the Player's Manual, isn't a good sign, ICly speaking.

I'd like to re-iterate: this thread is NOT about Planeshift. This question was meant to apply to all mmorpgs. If you use PS as an example, that's fine, but once you're discussing specific cities and concepts within the PS realm, you're not really answering the question any more.

Sorry, didn't meant to hijack your topic, just clarified meself.
Looking over the posts, one could say that players want to:
-Be able to create and use custom content (buildings and books, tools, weapons etc. This would require a lot of communication between game devs and community, generates a lot of trouble and most likely legal issues. Then again - magitech airships might be worth the trouble ;) )
-Influence the metaplot/history/feeling of the world (aka the non-static world. Partially implemented in eg. EVE and others)
-Take part in epic action as well as roleplay
May I ask why you're interested?

Trade. A simple economic model with working supply-demand and source-sink models would be great. Not everyone want to be a hero, some just wanna be rich ;)

Yes, yes you may.

Interesting that you mention that, Auran. That's near the top of my own list.
