Title: Exactly how...
Post by: Knightspark9 on February 12, 2011, 06:26:59 pm
Do you harvest? And what kinds of plants to harvest? I'd like to know.

1.) Have a shovel or an axe.
2.) stand near a spawnpoint of fruit, mushrooms, herbs, other stuff.
3.) type /harvest. Name of plant not required like for /dig.
(or consult the ingame help <F1> ... )

Type of plants? Walk around with your eyes open and you will see.  ;)

Why do you ask that here outside the game, instead of inside the game?

Become a (part-time?) student at the Knowledge Seekers University of Yliakum and learn it in-character.

asking how to do certain game functions is not an in character type of question ligh.

Asking about what commands to use is OOC. Asking where to harvest is IC. So it's kind of a mix.

Well, this is more of how to harvest. Now where. I have to screen my questions better. :-[

Of course, this topic has technical (OOC) parts... but it would be more fun to roleplay the IC learning. :)

And showing places with herbs and fruits to harvest would be a spoiler if it was explained here.

Sure, IC learning is a big part of fun in the game.

Especially if you're learning OOCly what your character is learning ICly... It's not nearly as fun to know about a surprise for your character OOCly, then to experience that surprise both ICly as your character, and OOCly as the player :) Makes for some nice rp if you're not expecting it!

I feel that if you learn things in-game, it brings you to a closer attraction to your character, which leads to you staying in PS longer...Its wierd, but if you've ever played an alt, its never as apealing, as playing your originaly character when you first play PS.. learning things OOC has the same effect.

I bought an axe because of this thread, then found out I can't harvest with an axe!

It must be a farming tool axe not a weapon axe. It is possible that some things need to be harvested with a different farming tool but I am not positive that is the case.

Yes, another player has given me a farming axe. It apparently works although I haven't tried it yet. Fighting axes don't.

The farming tool axes used to be the smallest combat axe but were changed to tools when harvesting was implemented.

farming tool axes can also be looted from certain creatures hanging out around certain watering holes. Good luck finding someone who buys them though.

I believe Lilura collects them, actually. She's got a bunch of neat named ones..  :)

does that mean they can be named?
You can probably also sell surplus axes to anyone who wants to start harvesting but doesn't have the combat ability to loot their own one. I was in this position but I met a very generous character in Brado's tavern.

You can sometimes loot named axes, the chances are low but the loot generator sometimes creates them.

If you find an "Axe of the Hammer", an "Axe of Stone", etc., you'll probably guess which guilds may be interested in them... ;)

That really reminds me, if the hammerwielder and stonehammer races are just being combined into, dwarf, shouldnt the two guilds merge?

No. They may be one combined "Stonehammer race" now, but they are still distinct to some degree — as "clans" now.

Gotcha that makes sense then, like the enki clans :3
