Hi, I recently downloaded and installed PlaneShift, and just now had the time to update and try it out. The update to 0.5.5 went fine, but I can't seem to get to the game. When I click the Play button, psclient launches, but as soon as its window appears, I get the sound that would normally accompany a windows error message, except that there is no error message. After this happens, the window closes and pslaunch reopens. I've tried updating my drivers, reinstalling, and running as administrator, but all to no avail. The Repair button works, but it tells me that all the files are alright, which of course doesn't help. In case it's necessary, I'll provide my system specs and current PS settings.

Hi! May I assume you have Windows 7? :P
have you tried to launch psclient from a command prompt? try:
psclient.exe -console
and paste the results here, maybe this way will provide other clues.

I can't believe I forgot to mention my OS. Yes, It's Windows 7.
And yes, I have tried the -console option before. Here is what it says:
Planeshift Updater Version 2.80 for win64
Checking for updates:
Checking for updates to the updater: Using mirror http://216.6.227.163/updater/ for updaterinfo.xml
Using mirror http://216.6.227.163/updater for updateservers.xml
No updates needed!
Checking for updates to all files: No updates needed!
Updater finished!
Press a key to close this window...
Edit: Hold on. I just noticed that you said psclient, not pslaunch. Will get back to you soon with the results from that.
Edit2: I don't have time before it closes to read all of what the console says, but near the bottom it mentions a report containing... something. Any idea where that report would have gone, so that I could paste its contents into here?

(I'm doing it as a reply this time to make sure the fact that there's an update gets noticed.)
After running the client in console mode several times, I managed to make out that it says, "A report containing information strictly necessary to identify this problem has been sent to PlaneShift developers."

disable sound

Thanks, weltall, that fixed it! Would you happen to know why that was causing the problem, or is it just that you know the sound causes issues?

it's a bug of the 0.5.5 client if you lack openal. software is deprecated and shouldn't be used.
