We have an average of about 10,000 players on at any given time, except lunch time.

it says only 35 players are online,, a lot less than 10k hahaha
-
my o.O was directed at the 10k...
-
It really does fluctuate depending on the time of day.. At times, there's around 30ish players, and at other time, there could be as many as 80 or 90. I think the record for .5 is something like 98 or 99 players....
We will all mis the days of having several hundred players online, but we make do with what we've got, and honestly, you may find it's actually not too bad at all ;)
-
im disappointed that they didnt improve the battle animations though
-
Like which ones? For instance, there's a animation specific to ranged attacks that's certainly worth watching, every race also attacks in a slightly different way with normal weapons, as well.
-
Also depends on which sever you are playing on, as you didnt specify, but EZPCusa generally has...10 or less
However on zeroping [laanx asyou 'may' have known it] when 'im' on it generally has 80-100 players on 30-60 towards my nighttime. i live on the west coast of the US so you can figure that out ;)
But you'll find many many many things new to PS since the last time you've played.
-
WOW 50000+ accounts 200000+ characters
-
and about 0.034% - 0.0125% of those characters are online at any given time
-
Personally having any players online at a time is personal win. To know that the stuff you are doing is interesting to at least a few people is always a good feeling.
-
We had 101 people on for the Winch house auction. since we went to the 0.5 client the most I have seen online is 134. The 134 happened when we had two player events going on as I remember one was a House Cheshire picnic and the second was Garosan being arrested for trying to stir up revolution against the Octarchy.

so where should i play, the role play server or the grin server?
-
do you want to roleplay? or do you want to grind and use :) 's in the main tab
:P

hey help me out please.. i just want to play this game again just like before when i had so many friends in-game.. now i just fin it super boring as to i cannot see anybody playing the game and dioing quests is still a pain..
can you give me reasons to stick playing this game? cause i myself cant find any reason to why i should continue playing this.. i gave it 2 years to improve itself and thought that if i play it 2 years after, id see lots of improvements... im disappointed..
-
Here is the only reason you need.....ME. ;D
-
seriously please?

if there is no founding it's a bit difficult to see such a thing, in 6 years gnome multi screen support is still broken (actually it worsened) and that has a bigger developer base and more founding :)

It seems like you are talking about two different things and confusing the two.
First you are talking about the player base and that how when you played before there would be lots of your friends online. It is not clear if you desired the group of friends to role play with or to simply chat in such channels as gossip to guild. If the former, then perhaps you are finding it harder to find those with which to role play? If so you might try the Cooperative Plot Creation Project (http://trollkeep.com/PS). Those that are registered in the database seem to be very open to RP and you can get an idea of what their character is about before meeting them. You can also search for characters that are played in time zones close to your own. Although the player base may be smaller than from a couple of years ago, those that are playing and registered in the project (http://trollkeep.com/PS) are; in my estimation; always welcome to new players and new rp.
The second thing that you are talking about is software improvements. There you must either be forgetful or just trolling. In my less than a year of PS activity there have been the addition of an entire city, mechanics' changes and marked improvements in graphics. Not sure what you are expecting for the entrance fee.
No one can tell you a reason to stay or to leave. No one game is for everyone and there is little sense to play a game that one finds no enjoyment in. However, if you like RP then it would be worth your while to try to get to know those that practise it here on PS. That aspect of PS is hard to match on any other game world out there.
Good luck with your decision making.

P.S. Like you, quests are boring to me too. My answer to that is not to do them unless they must be done. ;)
-
The answer is simple, If you like to RP, then play on that server, its everywhere.
If you dont like RP, then do the EZ server, stats/skills' cap has been doubled since last ttime you played.
IF thats not enough, then there isnt any motivation

I am in the same situation as you are. After quitting, I just recently re-downloaded it.
PS sucks. It's just not fun anymore. I remember when everyone knew all the guilds and there were actually popular players who so many people knew. Then 0.5 came around, and most of the people who were fun to RP with quit.
My advice if you choose not to continue Planeshift:
If you own a macintosh, play UrbanTerror, Minions of Mirth, Minecraft, Adventurequest Worlds, or just pay for a P2P game if you have that kind of money.
If you own a PC, what the hell are you doing playing Planeshift anyway? There's D&D Online, LOTR Online, Vindictus, etc that are all free.
-
dunno if talad will tolerate your....negativity, towards his game ;)
-
@avathius
i agree that planeshift sucks. sometimes. you really ought to update your driver or quit using whatever crappy one you have now.
there are players who are fun to rp with now. take your head out of your ass.
and none of those games you listed offer roleplay.
-
lol
-
I used to play in a time where there was half as much map and twice as many players. Was pretty fun! PS nowadays is fun in a different way. And it may return to it's former glory, wouldn't you like your character to be established by then?

What about Conquest of the Horde. Is free and is one of the higher RP games around. It's just got a small player community for the size of WoW.
-
it's not free and against wow (which you've to pay) eula

I don't play anymore and I was a player for about 2 years. It was really fun back then. But I have to admit, this project is slow. I am 24 and used to play when I was 18 - 20 and at it's current speed and progress .... I would say I will maybe be age 60 - 70 before this game is finished. I actually don't think it will ever be finished, and the game will probably die at some point.
Besides that, the game is great and I wish I could help work on this project to speed it up. But I am not that great as a game developer yet, so maybe in the future. I have played about 30 - 40 mmorpg's and only 2 of them where really really good and I had a great time playing them. Planeshift and Mabinogi.
I am actually shocked the max players I hear is 100. I remember back when I played the server could sometimes be filled with 300 players. I am thinking about making a trip back in to Planeshift again some time soon though. So maybe i wil lsee you all soon.

I'm returning ingame after some months and saddened to learn that replying on the 9th thread counting from the top already counts as forum necromancy.
Giving it another try though :)
-
Welcome back :) Always nice to see an older face return.
-
PS doesn't have enough content to really need many players
However, it's always nice to have a few people to talk to as you battle lag, choppy animations, and glitches as you search for the nonexistent other free Macintosh MMORPGs that are actually worth playing.
And yes, that's why I've stuck with Planeshift all these years.
