I tried a search, so pardon me if this is posted somewhere and I missed it somehow.
I have a character that I no longer want, and I would like to try PS again with a fresh character. However when I tried deleting the character (Glompz Illa, yeah, stupid name) it would not delete. I asked ingame and I was told I would have to downgrade, delete, and upgrade back up, somehow. It looks like I would have to uninstall PS, get a 5.5 torrent, install, HOPING that it works there... and if not, keep trying random actions. Somehow that makes the thought of coming back here less exciting and I am HOPING there is an easier solution.
Any way I can delete the character without spending hours on it?

In case you are not aware, you can have more than one character. So just create a new one and forget about the old one. Easy enough?

Ok. So client is either perm-broke, or you are just trying to max your post counts by trolling.
My slots are full. Besides, starting a new Character does not address the issue of this thread.
So, Anyone who actually knows?

Contact a developer, they can delete characters or move them to a different account, you should try Weltall, from what i see he would be the fastest to delete your character for you.

There is a current bug report about deleted characters which don't disappear - marked as "Fixed" (so it will soon be released, probably).

ah, thanks.. but reading them....
http://hydlaaplaza.com/flyspray/index.php?do=details&task_id=5017 says it is fixed, but if you read the comments it does not look like it is fixed.

That's fixed. The character is actually deleted (confirmed by the server) and doesn't appear anymore after restarting the client.
Now, right after confirming deletion (before restarting the client), the deleted character remains in the charcater list (though trying to log it in doesn't do anything). This is not what used to be and it's rather odd.

I just tested that on zeroping server between 17:45 and 18:00 after upgrading to 0.5.6.2 version. I created new character and uploaded it to server. After I was seeing Harnquist's smithy, I disconnected. Then I tried to delete this character. Here is what I tested:
1) I clicked on Delete Selected Character, then I pressed ENTER. Result: Client crashed.
2) I clicked on Delete Selected Character, then I clicked Yes, then Logout. Result: After restarting client, character is still on server.
3) I clicked on Delete Selected Character, then I clicked Yes, then Quit. Result: After restarting client, character is still on server.
4) I Clicked on Delete Selected Character, then I clicked Yes, then Join. Result: I see deleted character standing near Harnquist's smithy. After restarting client, character is still in the list.
I read that as first person tested and their character was deleted, so they called it fixed. No mention of any change made, no planned update to server or client... just fixed by not being broken.
Then next person explains what I am still seeing.
EITHER first person was in a hurry and did not mention what they changed, or they did not fix anything.
They might of been in a hurry, but that is how comments read.... DO you see where they actually did some change to warrent the assumption that "so it will soon be released, probably)."? Maybe I am reading it wrong...

Well, I have the same problem. I created a character to check a new teture and when trying to delete him, I simply can't. So it's not fixed.

Area Engine
Severity Medium
Status Ready to test
Task Type Bug Report
Version 0.5.6
State Closed
That means it is ready to test on the the test server, Also means not on main servers until it is confirmed fixed, by a tester.
Hope that clears things up.

"The bug is fixed" does not always mean: "The fix has already been released as update".
Often it rather means (if it was a fix for the client): "If you want it fixed now, compile your own client... or wait until a new client is available as update."
-
it's not a server problem so it's obvious you need a new (0.5.6.1 as said in the login window) or older client (0.5.5).
bugs are ALWAYS closed when they are fixed in svn for engine.

Ok, I finally understand, I hope.
"If you want it fixed now, compile your own client... or wait until a new client is available as update."
(Or reinstall a previous version... ugh.. no thanks)
Since I am not willing to compile or mess with my installation, since it took me almost a year to get it working last time I messed with that, I will just wait until I can do it with a newer client, when it comes.
Thank you.
