Title: Different "colors" for armor
Post by: Karlyle on March 30, 2011, 07:30:05 pm
Can we have Black Plate Mail Armor, perhaps even red.  Also with the Leathers.  I think the different colors would add to the different characteristics of each player.

I think such things will certainly be available in the long run, but there are probably things with higher priority for the 3d artists to be done first...
even for the very same type of task, adding more texture variations to a given mesh. For example, there are 18 different types of robes that share the same texture (for each race that has a robe mesh at all), and the appearance of a female klyros that does not wear armor is more than embarrassing...

If you can life with a custom colorization of your armor that is only present in your own client, you can try to modify the textures to your liking. That is not as difficult as one might think.

You just need to know about PhotoShop and GIMP ^.^

but that's just changing a texture. not the same as implementing more.

I believe there could be a shader program implemented that alters the appearance, similar to hair colors; but that would only work for simple armor which is already rather uniformly colored.

No matter which way, you would have to store such attributes in the database in some rather consistent way. That requires a lot of wise planning...

What about a dye system like in Vindictus?

You'll have to explain for those of us out here who don't know what you mean ;)
