Title: Any open source game servers built on planeshift?
Post by: garyamort on April 02, 2011, 03:31:52 pm
I was wondering if there are any open source game servers built on planeshift that are functional?

Purpose: to setup a game server for my kids and their friends at school.  I have no interest in having a 9 year old connect to a public server with anyone on it, but setting up my own server for them to play on and letting them invite others is fine[as then it grows within their age group)

I understand that I can't do that with Planeshift the game, but I figure there might be a game based off the engine out there.

Yeah, the PS codebase comes with enough art to run a particular area, from there you can just patch in your own maps and content. I've personally done some work on an Ancient Greek mod for PS. Given the amount of work involved in making the art part of a game, especially to a competent level, there have yet to be any PS-engine open source alternatives made available, due to the fact they're simply not to a releasable level of quality.
