I got a request from a player to put this question on the forum: (and thus, here it is ;) )
-----
I understand that multiple guilds access has been discussed before, and I do not completely agree with it. However, I was wondereing if there would be any room for secretive groups, for example - Blackflame. Blackflame is supposed to be a secretive group that works with each other, but without knowing who others are, it is very difficult to learn. Also, followers are supposed to lead their own lives in public (IC), with have a secret life, so followers do not want to leave their present guild to create/join a new one; Which would also raise awareness to why certain members were leaving. So I ask, Would it be considered to implement groups along side of guilds?

Indeed, and other groups, like Talad/Laanx/Xiosia groups as well as Mercantile based groups and warrior and mage groups, and smithies perhaps. Ooh and of course 'high society groups'.
Of course the player should only be able to chose one. Which will be hard, because 50% of the people who play planeshift have char's who are mage's, warriors and smithies.
But I do agree with this secondary guild/group idea. It should be simpler than a guild's structure though.

i've been thinking about this sort of thing for a while now. There are such things as secret guilds, but I think that a character could and should be able to belong to at least one secret and one public guild. There are several IC reasons one might do this, including the ones already mentioned. I was thinking that for the purposes of espionage, one might publicly belong to one guild but secretly belong to another. A guild might then be split into two separate factions, one being public the other secret. Any member a part of the secret faction should be able to join another guild for the purpose of infiltration, espionage, sabotage etc.
An OOC reason would be for the sake of coordinating RP. Guild functions such as guildchat and guildinfo would be extremely useful in such occasions.

Don't we currently have a 'group' of the Sons of Xiosia? Something like that, I can see wanting to have a group as well as a guild, to give the players ways to be known for other things in addition to one's guild. I can see how it would need the same considerations of being able to make it secret, and it would take a tweaking to the chat window/tabs to be able to display both the "Group" chat, and the 'group' function, but I've no doubt the devs could arrange something to fit it. Perhaps simply calling it something else, like Organization? or along those lines.

Hi all,
Whilst reading this I had two basic points of thought come to mind.
1) Perhaps this idea is practical, but then the guilds system gets so heavily abused with non-RP guilds that I would encourage people to think about the potential 'cons' of such a system and how it could be used to hinder RP.
2) It's not too hard to setup a 'group' already, anyway, especially if it's secret. Just make a channel in the Channels box and use it to organise, not unlike a Guild tab.

is it at all possible to make such a channel private? and if yes, how so?

Ask a dev if, like IRC channels, ingame channels can be passworded.
