I'm just interested to know if it's okay with the rules. When I started playing, I was told -- or was it in the Rules section somewhere? -- that players can only leave objects on the ground for a limited amount of time, and only if their RP requires it. But at the moment nearly every mine is 'marked' with OOCish trade ads of a certain guild, which makes me wonder about the rules or guidelines probably being changed somewhere along the way.
If the old restrictions do not apply anymore, I hope everyone who is buying ore (including me) is allowed to spawn and spread multiple 'books' in the wilds to get even with those who do.
It would certainly make the mines look nicer and the world more believable :thumbup:

ya know you could just try picking them up and selling them. GMs can't be everywhere and often have more important things to do. Not always though ;)

If it's not littering, is okay with the rules and is considered fair competition, why would I -- or any other player -- sell or otherwise destroy them?

Well, from my point of view: ICly, it's just a flier. Think about whether your character would read a flier or consider it litter. It may look a little odd to the player, but that book would look like a sheet of paper left lying around to your character unless the contents describe it as an RP item (say, a signpost).

@Candy. Thanks a lot for your contribution, but it seems you didn't get my point. I'm not interested to know if other players can interpret it all IC'ly or not. I want to know if they can do the same or not.
Maybe the mines of Yliakum would look better with a forest of imagined signposts growing right on them, I don't know... tastes differ.

From my point of view it's ICly, but also "littering" it's just like a flier and GM's seem to allow it
but wonder how long that will take if more players are going todo it.

Everyone can do what these players do. I've never heard of a GM interfering with that type of advertisement and there have been times when you saw these advertisements everywhere. The players interfere though and this means different guilds and players will see their fliers having different persistence.

carefully. I'm not talking about 'everywhere', I'm talking about the mines. Mines are those unmarked (by design, I suppose -- or not?) spots in the wilds where funny-looking folk are brandishing their pickaxes in the air, in hopes of getting some ore in return for their time. Check?
In RL years 2009-2010 there were no ads on the mines. Neither IC nor OOC ones. Now we have such ads, issued by one and only one source, on the vast majority of mines, at any given time, and it seems to be okay. Whether it really is or is not, is exactly what I'm trying to find out. Other guilds and individual characters have the same goal -- buying ore. So if PS rules allow activities like that, it should be known and there should be more ads from different sources. Or, if the rules forbid that, there should be no ads on the mines at all.

I'd suggest people go to the Announcements area, the Planeshift Rules and Notifications section and the [Must Read] Game rules and policies thread here in the forum. Probably a good idea to read the whole thing for most people but the items and property section is more relating to this direct question. Normally the GMs aren't going to worry about a couple of items left some place. We will get involved if the number of items is large enough to start causing people lag. The number of items it takes to start causing lag depends on the type of item. A camp fire causes a lot more lag than a book so we can't give a specific number of items saying this is to many.

Looks like a yes too me till there are to much books or items and people are going to lag

It seems like [GAME POLICY 05] is not valid anymore. At least, the 'clean up after yourself' part.

I pick them up sometimes and ignore them other times, If they are particularly bad I might inform a GM. One case where I considered doing so was when one of those ads was suspended in mid air high above the BD platform which couldn't be reached without a mount super-jump. Talk about your OOC placement. Ultimately I just made a snarky comment in Gossip and let it go at that.
Anyway you are certainly free to do this yourself but I imagine if you overdo it enough to generate complaints (/petitions) you will likely be hearing from a GM.
Most of the rules appear to be laxly enforced, but I guess the GM team is suffering the same manpower shortages as the rest of the departments.

@bilbous. The only 'book' not created by myself that I have destroyed so far -- and quite recently, too -- was some brutal IC rant against Laanx' followers, placed directly on Sharven's face. He just stood there, having a book instead of a face. GM repercussions or not, I would readily do the same thing again if it happened again.
In any other case, and especially with OOC stuff involved, I think it is much better to ask for the rules in action, and then abide by such rules no matter what.

Suit yourself. I've been around a while (6 years ) and have seen lots of stuff. When I see OOC map painting I pick it up or report it, as well as reporting obviously bad character names (though I admit to having a few that are borderline at best.) We're all here together and it is better to have the GMs do events both planned and unplanned than to performing cleanup all the time.

To be honest, i don't like at all those notes left all around. There are billboards now for that, even if they are constantly cleaned up by people. What about making a (monthly?) tax for advertising in the billboards, with GMs locking your notes for the period you paid for?

That's a nice idea for now. Though I don't mind being paid for removing notes for now.
