I was wondering if making much bigger events is possible. Not just a random dueling challenge or a market. It would be cool if the PS community organised a fair of epic proportions lets say once per two months.
What I am trying to say is:A merchant market, dueling tournament,a show with singers and storytellers,a rivnak race and much more all at the same place and time.
This way people from all parts of Yliakum will gather in one place. The epicosity of this event would really help the game's PR.
P.S. I am willing to help with making it true.
-
We used to have entertainers who made such a kind of events regularly.
-
I don't mind tournaments, I don't mind markets. In fact I have never recalled a market before KIC first began the Oja markets, about a year ago. I do know there were random markets, but never saw a regular one.
Yes we need some more player done events, not many guilds seem to celebrate their birthday.
But also I haven't seen many GM events lately, (I am meaning like Improv Everywhere, out of the blue events like someone getting robbed) but we are low on GMs at the moment, so it might be awhile yet.

The Spring Festivals (I forget the spelling - Oniden?) have been an attempt at gathering all players at a variety of smaller and bigger events within the context of a weekend full of events all celebrating spring. Last year there were two parades, races at the Outpost and in Ojaveda, feasts and community potlucks on the Temple Green, three performance / storytelling events, one at each tavern (this year we have Amdenier!), lectures and services on all the major religions, market places, and several just down and out parties during that time. Since my school goes well into June I don't think I can be a main organizer this year so, you guys, go for it!
It was way fun last year, and the year before! \\o// \\o//

The Spring Festivals (I forget the spelling - Oniden?)
Close: Unodin (http://planeshift.ezpcusa.com/pswiki/index.php?title=Yliakum_Calendar#Unodin)
The larger the playerbase, the more epic festivals may be. But in these days we have neither the number nor the reliability. People have less and less spare time. We have now the number of visitors what was earlier the number of organizers.
-
Events seem to draw more people onto the server. I would be if we looked back at the number of people on the server it was probably pretty big for the Unodin festival last year. I seem to remember a pretty large group of people taking part in the parade into Hydlaa. Just when we have a Dev Q&A event we are seeing player numbers in the 100 range. I think a well organized festival with a few different activities going on like one of the past Unodin festivals with events like a religious ceremony or two, dueling tournament, KIng and Queen of Unodin contest, races story telling contest etc would see over 100 people on the server during the event. Maybe during events we can start tracking the number of people on the server and that might give something event organizers can use as bragging rights, who had the event that drew the most people onto the server :)

I wouldn't call those "big events." I'd call them "common events." But yes, they should be bigger and they should happen more often.
We don't need to rely too much on GMs for that, though. We just need some Guilds to agree doing it together. Most markets *advertises the Twilight Fair that is happening tomorrow at 21 GMT* are good examples of cooperation between guilds already. The next step is to have some representatives of these guilds and some GMs sit at a table and discuss the periodicity and structure (i.e. name, official propaganda through the calendar and forum sticky, etc)
Baruden (Bloodstone Brotherhood) spoke to me about this a while ago and it made sense then and it keeps making sense now.
Not Related: To me a "big event" would include some change to the settings, as I classify my events by the impact they have on creation of RP material.

but... first we'd need settings :P
-
We have settings. They are just not completely public. Partially for a good reason (not to spoil the undiscovered), partially due to a lack of human resources to present the current state in an attractive way (starting with updating the "Player Guide").
-
So we just need the leaders of some guilds participation and a good date.
-
I'll have my end of the bargain pushed forward. Soon enough we should hava a response here about that.

Way back in 4.0 we had a summer market.

I just got finished posting about our upcoming magic fair (http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=39533.0). I am hoping it will be a somewhat big draw. The thread is designed to get people to come up with ideas to make it as good an event as we can.
The Octarchal Society for Progress was a promising idea that sparked some things in the short run, including our fair series. But as the series went on, turnout was less and less until it didn't seem worth doing any more. :( Now I am still trying to hold them occasionally as good ideas come up.
Organizing such events is time consuming and often exhausting. And it isn't made easier when people just show up and complain or disrupt things. But all it takes is one or a few people to take the time and organize something properly. The forums are full of decent events from years past. No reason it can't happen again to some extent. Though it doesn't help with such low numbers as we have now.
-
In all honesty I like events that focus in one one thing rather than the clustered ones with multiple events. But that's mostly because I don't find this game enjoyable to play after an hour or two on it.
-
We're going after that with the Twilight Fair (http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=39496.0). We've (refer to the already linked thread) agreed to make it monthly and to have a single, different subevent each time we go at it. We're hoping this gets people motivated into checking out the fair each time, to see what's cooking.

Ok people I created a small draft of what I was meaning by an awesome event:
Storytelling-Poetry contests.
Mounted race and Rivnak stunts.
Ulber hunt.
Duelling contest.
Crafters teaching their secrets to newbies.
Market.
Religious Ceremonies for Laanx,Dakru,Xiosia and Talad followers.
Fishing contest.
Food and Drinks.
All at the same place. There would each of the sub-events will be organised by a guild which will of course accept the help of any volunteers.
Aditionally three other guilds will be needed to assure security, show the newbies the way to the event location and make screenshots/videos of the event.
I am planning to organise everything in a location like Camp Banished.
It will most probably be held later this summer.
P.S. All guilds helping in the organization of the event will be permited to freely advertise themselfs and recruit new members. The entrance to the event and participation in all events will be free of charge.
-
Experience dictates people lose interest after playing for a while on the same event. This would mean some of these events would have no attention, because people had already played for 2 hours and were tired.
It's even worst if you consider them happening at the same time.
Something like that may be too hard to organize properly. Static stuff like teaching and market are possible to be around, but time events such as contests and tournaments shouldn't compete between themselves, else they'll all end up short on people (since we don't have many.) Summer's also a tough time, at least speaking for DE, which is usually more inactive during those times.
Still, I'm interested in this enthusiasm of yours.
-
And which of the settings proposed events would match this "all-in-one mega event" best? Did you ever check that?
-
Well it all depends on how many people will help with the organizing. When I say duelling tournaments I do not mean something time consuming most probably some group battles. As the settings info is quite limited I am planning to organize a fair created by my own bussiness company the West Yliakum Company.I will try to mix the sub-events in such a way that both warriors and peaceful RPers can enjoy the show.

You might want to read through some of the old threads here about some of the festivals and events done in the past.
The 3rd Hydlaa Summer festival http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=37550.0 (http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=37550.0) has links to the earlier summer festival threads.

It isn't a mega-event but the Dome Festival of Performing Arts will be at the Amdeneir Ampitheater June 2 14:00 GMT. Please try to help make it a success.

If it was not on a holiday in Germany, I would have said that the proposed time (afternoon CEST on a weekday) was rather stupid. Well, most german men get rather drunk that day, so it is still rather stupid... ;)
-
Worldwide, there is no such thing as a good time. Better to do it sometime than not at all. And Jezzi only plays on weekdays.
But thanks for the constructive allegation of stupidity.
-
:innocent: You're welcome. Just don't blame me for a lack of visitors... :surrender: I will try to visit it. No reason to drown my mind.
-
The Kore Irka are also doing a fine show June 17.
