Title: An Open Letter to the female characters of planeshift
Post by: Ebonwumon on May 20, 2011, 03:59:22 am
Before I begin, it should be noted that this applies to all female characters, not necessarily players. I suppose it could be about male characters too, but I haven't experienced them exhibiting the behaviour described below.

Dear Female Characters,

Leather armour looks like this:

It is not skin tight, revealing every curve of your Laanx-sculpted body. It is not hoplessly revealing and cut so that your cleavage shows through to tempt all those that of the male variety that walk by. That would be latex:

If you stab any one of those ladies, their clothing will rip, they will bleed, then they will die. And so will you, if you are dressed like that.

Now, I'm not saying you should not dress like that. That's wholly your option, and I support your decision 100%. But stop kidding yourself. You're not wearing leather armour and it affords you no protection. It does however, afford you a dominant look when you stand over your masochistic partner as he grovels at your feet begging his mistress to do her will.

Sincerely,

Someone who has tired of your nonsense.

P.S. Kaerli, no, you can't look "still beautiful" when you're built like a tank, scarred to hell, carrying at least three times your weight (which is considerable, and almost all muscle, so no nice curves) in weapons and armour. If I think armour is beautiful, I'll marry one of the guards in Bronze Doors, thank you.

There is a Brown Way spell that manifests skin tight leather armor. It's a game, after all. This is maybe a bit too much.

I loved it. Hilarious and creative, and wholly relevant.

The point is a good one. RP needs to have some plausibility. I'll try to keep my male klyros' armor desc reasonable :). On the other hand, the personal reference to a specific player weakened your argument. It was also unnecessary and somewhat impolite. And your concept that a muscular giantess can't be sexy is an opinion. It isn't necessarily my thing, but there is someone for everyone.

There is a nicer Red Way one for that too.

You make the (somewhat noobish) mistake of thinking he didn't intend to offend anyone and also, the mistake of assuming he was genuine in his creation of his thread. This is comedy, people will be singled out and made fun of for their somewhat critical, sometimes blaring, contradictions and flaws. It's human humour.

I think a point was missed here; A fundamental difference between yliakum and our world is women are to fight as often as men. So likely it exists armour created to suit a woman!
Do I need to say that an armour has to be close to the skin to actually protect (maybe not for mail)?
(that's also why you shouldn't be able to just go to a smith's and get plate armoury... It used to take about a year to have your full plate in our world, and you was to go try the fitting every two weeks or so)

And about the strength... Being able to lift 600kg and run half an our with such a burden is obviously not of fully-natural origins; the laws of biophysics clearly state you can't grow that much muscles.

The point was more about practicality of such armor. Popular culture doesn't pay much attention to such things.

OH Good GAWD !

   is this really an issue?????

make me SOMETHING feminine to wear and I will wear it.. in the meantime... I shall have to have either nothing at all... or... the white heavy armor on top and leather leggings....  The closest thing to even looking feminine we have...  in my opinion.....
Since i dont fight, hunt , kill ...treadmill level... all that..  it is just RP and the armor is just for Looks... nuthin more....

Video games are popular culture and have you played this game? Practicality is not in abundance around here.

Yes but, Planeshift isn't a videogame...nor popular. It's a cesspit filled with men playing women in skin-tight latex outfits.

Actually, I was trying to contest the post without engaging the OP on the terms he / she desired. Being reasonable is a useful device, it can make your counterpart look less so. And refusing to engage can sometimes drive a troll to truly hilarious rage. And oh, not quite a noob, I was flaming trolls on Usenet when a lot of PS players were in diapers.

I do agree that pointing out inconsistencies can be fun. I just thought the post was an awkward mix of an actual topic and a poke. So I (gently) poked back.

Post by: bilbous on May 23, 2011, 05:05:19 pm
If PS isn't a video game I don't know what it is, I do agree that this kind of game fills up with trannies*. That could be combated by enforcing first person camera view but probably not eliminated. I have at least one female character for the stereotypical purpose of pursuing the domestic arts. My bad, so sad.

*Character differently gendered from player. Would this description include all Kran characters? I suppose it would.

If I think armour is beautiful, I'll marry one of the guards in Bronze Doors, thank you.

I think you are completly underestimating the perception abilities of the people in game.

For example, when I think of leather armour, I think of the picture you showed in the OP. Likewise, I am only able to process so many physical characteristics of someone I see on the street.

However, on any given evening in the tavern, I can process up to 3,4, or even 5 pages worth of information on someone in a matter of minutes. It's like I'm reading a novel on the character I'm looking at, and they are telling me what I see, from that birthmark 1 1/2 in. diameter on their right arm, to the distant look in their eye that says their mom didn't hug them enough. it is truely remarkable.

So I guess what I'm saying is, you simply underestimated your senses, and what may seem like major curves under that armor could, in reality, be very slight

Quote

No comment on the first half, but basically my own thought process on the 2nd

OH Good GAWD !

   is this really an issue?????

It is. It is one of the dumbest and most annoying aspects of RPGs. In almost every RPG there is, female warriors have some form of sexualised armor that looks completely impractical, and it pisses me off because it treats the player like a horny 14 year old.

I was playing 2 paladins in Temple of Elemental Evil once. One male and one female. They were supposed to be shinning examples of virtue and purity. After some adventuring I acquired enough money to buy chain-mail for both of them. I equipped the chain-mail on my man. He looked stunning and powerful in his protective metal coverings. Then I equipped it on my female. It turned into "Victoria Secret lingerie: Chain-mail edition". At this point I quit the game, because it was obvious this partnership wouldn't work out.

Dear Planeshifters...

Never underestimate the effectiveness of the "battle-kini" in full combat situations.  See below:
http://static2.aintitcool.com/images2008/anime/onechanbara.jpg (http://static2.aintitcool.com/images2008/anime/onechanbara.jpg)
Said battle-worthy garment is surely designed first and foremost with the protection of a female's most valuable assets in mind!  How could anyone doubt such a thing?  Tsk tsk.  All my female characters have their armor specially designed and crafted by The very same Designer who made the Akkaio female tribal gear.  Nevermind the overwhelming vulnerability to the sides, back, legs, arms, neck, front, bottom... it gives EXCELLENT mobility, and doesn't hamper agility like some other armors.  Not to mention, it never interferes with tanning, or being overweight.  All in all, it's a perfectly acceptable battle attire!

Sincerely,
She who dances for Gartheiz on the weekends.
