Title: minimap
Post by: Noobstorm on June 03, 2011, 08:00:37 am
I spent like 20 minutes looking for Serana in the sewers. I also spent about 20 looking for the BF temple entrance and gave up. This is extremely frustrating this game needs a minimap.

This game needs not to have a minimap. It's frustrating, but that's the price you pay for immersion, which is the main point of this game.

/me smacks Noobstorm with a large trout: No looking for the BF entrance unless you are a BF!

And adding a minimap would be more OOC to add to the noobs:

Newbie: But my minimap says it's that way.
Oldbie: What's a minimap? The only map I know of is this one I found… [use brackets for OOC]
Newbie: Brackets? What the hay? My minimap doesn't work…
Oldbie: [*facepalm*]

the BF temple is like the isla de muerta, anyway :P
it can only be found by those who already know where it is *cough*

Imagine... There was a time when the only known navigation device was a rowboat... when maps made by hand were filled with beautiful writing saying "hic sunt dracones"...
when moving from town to town was matter of days.
No. We don't need a map. We could ask someone for help, or hire someone who knows the perils of yliakum. Unless... BF Temple you say? I don't have the faintest idea what a BF is... *coughs*

Oh, you can stumble on the entrance to the BF Temple. You just won't know what it is or its supposed to do.

I do know where it is I did all the quests but I can't find the location of it again because the sewers are so damn confusing.

I played a roleplaying mmo and it had a minimap and a world map and there were no problems with it and the experience was far more enjoyable.

Noobs(like me) are completely confused without a map.

PlaneShift is pretty tough on newcomers with enforcing realism in some areas (while lacking it in others at the same time). I guess "no minimap" falls into realism enforcement category. So act as you would do it in RL - make a map if you can, or buy one, if you can find a cartographer.

If you would like to purchase a map in game, I will sell them to you (I'm Xirius Dolaktisht). I study cartography in real life, so it's only natural that my character creates maps.  :D
