I've noticed, over the past few days, during testing, that there exists a bug with the Crystal Way spell "Ray of Faith."
First of all: Hats off to the Dev Department or Settings guys, whoever came up with this spell, it's a great idea, and fits in very well with the Crystal Way, settings-wise. I can only imagine how difficult the coding must have been for the spell, so again, I'm very thankful. Add to this the coolest spell effect in the Crystal Way aresenal, and I love it.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the spell: Ray of Faith is defined, mechanics-wise, as follows: The wizard projects from his hands a ray of positive energy which is highly effective against evil creatures. The way the spell works, essentially, is that it deals a gradient damage depending on the target's Faction with "Evil", with the damage dealt also affected by the user's CW level. I've personally dealt, and also seen others deal, damage anywhere from 80 per hit, to upwards of 400 per hit, all dependent on the target's evil faction, and your own CW level.
However, while this spell works perfectly against other players, there's an issue when confronting NPC's. I suspect that the bug lies with the NPC characters, rather than the spell itself, however, when used against any sort of NPC, there's no damage inflicted, whatsoever. I made it a goal to test this spell out against the most "evil" NPCs :P I could find: Cutthroats, Onyx Daggers, the Camp Banished Lot, and Rogues, but all to no avail. I'm wondering firstly if anyone else is seeing or experiencing this issue, and secondly, if the Dev team or settings guys have anything to say about this.
What I expect that issue to be is that NPC simply haven't been assigned faction levels, however, I'm anxious to hear exactly what the issue is, or if the higher-ups have even noticed the problem. However, I suspect that if the issue lies with the NPC's faction assignment, that it will be a relatively easy fix, as IC-wise, it makes more than perfect sense that NPCs such as the ones I've tested on would have very high "evil" factions.
Feedback?

Please also file a bug for the sake of tracking the progress on this issue. I think it'll be also good to enumerate all bugged spells in one place, to have a better picture.

Is already in bug tracker and assigned, but hidden ;)

Hidden? Is there a closed bug tracker part there? So much for open development.

Is private, since it contains spoilers.

I would assume it would have to do with monsters not having factions...
Back in 4.03 worked, natures intuition could be used, and monsters would be 0 faction in anything, Im not sure about actual npcs though, and its been a long time since 4.03 so I do not even know if monsters are 'still' factionless...

it's not part of the gpl engine that thing. plus the evil faction is deprecated and will be removed sooner or later
-
Should I be left to assume that Ray of Faith will instead simply do a fixed amount of damage, irregardless of the target's Evil faction, and gradient to the caster' skill in Crystal Way?

No from what I hear, factions like evil and chaos and the such are gonna be replaced By Chaotic crazy and sneaky, [I know thats not correct bbut it was some branch like that if you get my reference] And I dont quite remember if that was planned or suggested, but either way it would prolly go off of that..

Why not simply consider the targets dark way ranks instead of deprecated factions?
Differences of opposing factions or way skills do not seem to be reasonable choice.
I would say an advanced student of the dark arts should be vulnerable to ray of faith, regardless of other skills, factions or whatever.
Of course, it makes sense to introduce a DW spell for reasons of symmetry, similar to the proposal here (http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=40251.msg450694#msg450694).
The concepts of opposing ways and skill training as a double–edged sword can make two nice additions.

the factions are those you see without DEPRECATED in the description.
